If You Need This, This Is For You

”Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” | Isaiah 41: 10

Are there any evidences that a person can have of being physically alive?

Yes there are… Breathing lungs, a beating heart, and a thinking mind will all be present and active.

If any of those three are absent; if the lungs no longer breathe, the heart no longer beats, or the mind no longer thinks, then it cannot be said that the person shows the evidence of life. The same can be said concerning Spiritual life.

When Spiritual life is present, the quickening breath of God’s Holy Ghost will be in the soul; faith IN and ON Christ will be in the heart; and a right view of God, man, and salvation will be in the mind.

When a continual, fervent, immediate need for Christ is within a person – the breath of God’s Spirit is in the soul.

When Christ becomes a sinner’s only hope, and only desire; when a sinner stops looking to his own works for salvation, and starts looking to Christ’s work on the cross alone – true, saving faith is in the heart. And when a sinner throws out every word but God’s word, and says: “let God be true, and every man a liar” – repentance has come to the mind. When these things are present, God given life has come!

Who Are These That Have Great Need?

They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. | Matthew 9: 12

Who are these that have no need?

They are those who are said to be whole. Many times in the scriptures the word “whole” is used to show the believer’s completeness and perfect soundness in the Lord Jesus Christ. But here in Matthew chapter 9, verse 12, the word “whole” means, “to be able, or one who can do.”

Who are they that have “no need?”

Who are these that are said to be whole?

They are those that “are able” and “can do” something for themselves.

Those that be whole (or think themselves to be) need not a physician.

Who are these that have great need? They are those that are sick.

Like the man at the pool of Bethesda, we are lame and cannot walk. Like the poor woman who was bowed over, we can in no wise lift ourselves up. Like the unclean leper, sin is eating us away. Like the man with the withered hand, we cannot pick ourselves up by the bootstraps. Like the demoniac, we lived among the tombs of the dead. Like Lazarus, we were dead.

If I had a terminal disease that only one doctor had the cure for, I would give anything and everything to find and receive treatment from that specialist.

Dear reader, we have such a disease and it is called “sin.”

There is such a Great Physician and He found me.

His name is Jesus Christ and only He can save His people from their sin. (Matthew 1: 21)

When do we go to the doctor?

When we are sick.

May God be pleased to continue to show us our sickness and need of Christ, the Great Physician.

Leave Them There

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” | 1 Peter 5: 7

I know my sins, but I rejoice in His grace.

I know my weakness, but I rest in His strength.

I know my emptiness, but I am complete in Him.

“O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,” all because we do not cast our sins, our souls, on Christ and LEAVE THEM THERE!

Christ is All and in All!

“Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.” | Colossians 3: 11

Unto you that believe, He is precious.

Believers receive Christ, rejoice in Christ, and to them He is precious.

His obedience is our righteousness, His blood is our atonement.

His prayers are our intercession.

His reign is our glory.

His coming is our hope!

Christ is all and in all!

Not Eloquent, Why?

“And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?” | Exodus 4: 10-11

The LORD made Moses slow of speech.

Think of all God had given Moses since birth: he delivered Moses out of the river, raised Moses in Pharaoh’s house, directed his steps to where he was now, and gave him all these sure promises.

The LORD could have given Moses eloquence but he did not. Why?

The glory in delivering his people is the Lord’s. “This is the word of the LORD… Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 4: 6)

COMPLETE IN HIM

“And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:” | Colossians 2: 10

If someone like me is complete, I know I must be complete only in Christ.

Everything about me is incomplete.

My faith is incomplete.

My repentance is incomplete.

My enjoyment of peace is incomplete. My love is incomplete.

My experience is incomplete.

Yet I am, right now, complete in Christ.

It is not that I will be complete one day, but I am complete right now because the Lord Jesus Christ completed the work of salvation for me and in me.

Give Me Such Grace

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” | Ephesians 1: 3-6

No one has ever done anything to or against me that can even begin to compare with what I have done to and against my God, both before He saved me and since. If God in heaven has forgiven me, it should be easy for me to forgive you of anything. Spirit of God, give me such grace!

ABOUNDING GRACE

“But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:” | Romans 5: 20

Grace taught my soul to pray – And made my eyes o’erflow; His grace has kept me to this day – And will not let me go.

Grace Alone – I hear many folks talk about their part in salvation. I can’t relate to that. My experience of grace was God doing everything and me doing nothing. Sin abounded in me and I could not free myself from its deadly grip. The only explanation as to why this sinner is saved is because God’s grace in Christ Jesus abounded to me. Grace did much more than offer to save me, grace abounded in saving me. I was dead – Christ gave me life. I was lost – Christ found me. I was blind – Christ gave me eyes of faith to behold him.

Grace Always – I know that only the same abounding, reigning grace will bring me to glory. Of all the many unimaginable joys of heaven, to love Christ with an unsinning heart must surely be a choice one. Then I shall have an abounding heart of gratitude to thank Jesus Christ for his abounding grace to me.

I’m looking forward to that!

Our Hope is a Person

“I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.” | Malachi 1: 2-3

What is our great desire and hope?

It is a two-fold hope, the same as that of Paul: 1) to “gain Christ” and be found in Him, not relying on anything we may have done in obedience to the law but relying entirely on the righteousness freely given to every believer and 2) to know Christ. (Philippians 3: 7-11) So our hope is both salvational (to be found in Him) and personal (to know Him).

The believer hopes for nothing more and will be satisfied with nothing less.

YE ARE COMPLETE IN HIM

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” | 1 Corinthians 1: 30-31

“Ye are complete in Him…” (Colossians 2: 10)

The believer’s standing in Christ does not fluctuate with his feelings, not even the increase or decrease of his faith or understanding or anything else. He stands complete in Christ. God would never trust any of His children to stand before Him at any time in their own selves; that is, in their merits or certain good frames of mind. He knows our frame. He remembers that we are yet dust. Therefore, He has on purpose provided for them this perfect standing in Christ Jesus. “Ye are complete in Him,” the Holy Ghost said. He says in another place, “Ye are perfect in Christ Jesus.” (Colossians 1: 28)

The very nature of our God requires us to be perfect and complete before Him at all times. He, out of necessity, therefore provided all this for His children; a perfection, a completeness, which can never be diminished. It is as unchanging as God Himself. (Hebrews 6: 17; 13: 8)

Every true believer may walk through this world in perfect liberty, free from anything and everything – yes, even his sin, fear of condemnation, and all else that would cause him to doubt of his completeness. He may freely come to God, worship Him, call Him “Father,” and this he may do at all times with the utmost confidence and thankfulness, because in Christ he stands, first and foremost and always, complete before God.

O thanks be to God for Jesus Christ.
