The Only Thing That Matters

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.” | Philippians 3: 10-11

This is the only thing that matters: “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”

This is the only thing that matters!

After all of these other little things in life are finished — some of them are going to have some kind of affect on us for three-score-and-ten – they do affect us, they are important to us – but winning Christ is the only thing that matters.

Being found in him, knowing a saving union with him, is life eternal and it is all that matters.

It doesn’t matter how great or terrible my day was — if he would just speak to me for just a moment – this is the only thing that matters.

Christ is not a “big part” of a believers life, he is not “number one” – Christ is all!

Knowing him, having him, being found in him is the only thing that matters.

May the Lord cause us to truly see this and live it!

‘Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus

“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” | 2 Timothy 3: 5

TRUST is a wonderful thing, and SWEET is a good word to describe it.

Whether between husband and wife, parents and children, friends, or whomever…..trust is sweet!

The word implies faith, confidence, and reliance, but that is not all.

There is also a wonderful rest and repose in trust; a freedom from doubts, suspicions, anxieties, and fearful apprehensions.

Trust is calm, peaceful and assured. “Tis so sweet” when guilty sinners come to “trust in Jesus.”

God Performs The Salvation Of Sinners

“Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” | Mark 16: 14-15

God’s grace is not an offer, but an operation.

It is not a passion in God desiring the salvation of sinners, but the operation of God performing the salvation of sinners.

As A Sinner, I Rest Myself In Him

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” | Joshua 1: 9

The mere knowledge of facts about the Bible, and even about the person and work of Christ, will not save us unless that knowledge leads us to really and truly trust our souls in the blessed Redeemer’s hands.

Faith must act in this fashion: “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; that He came to save sinners, and therefore, as a sinner, I rest myself in Him. I know that His righteousness and blood justify the ungodly; therefore, I trust Him to be both my righteousness and redemption before God.”

It Shall Be Perfect

“Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.” | Deuteronomy 32: 18

The voice from the cross did not summon men to do, but to be satisfied with what was done, “It is finished.”

The sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only perfect thing which has ever been presented to God on man’s behalf.

“It shall be perfect to be accepted, there shall be no blemish therein” (Leviticus 22: 21)

Unworthy Of Mercy; No Hope In The Law

“For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil. For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?” | Ecclesiastes 2: 21-22

You say you are unworthy of the least of God’s mercies.

Aren’t you glad Christ is worthy and that the redemption He accomplished was for the unworthy?

You say you have no goodness or merits to claim.

Aren’t you thankful God accepts sinners based upon the goodness and merits of His Son?

You say the law affords you no hope.

Right you are, but the gospel declares that the mercy and grace of God is freely given to sinners because of the doing and the dying of His dear Son! This is the only salvation worth having and the only one worthy to be proclaimed.

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

In Everything Give Thanks

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” | 1 Thessalonians 5: 18

Every time you insist that I am a sinner, you call me to remember the benefit of Christ my Redeemer, upon whose shoulders, and not mine, lie all my sins.

So when you say I am a sinner, you do not terrify me, but comfort me immeasurably.

We Shall See Him As He Is

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” | James 1: 2-4

No trial or suffering is easy.

If trials were without pain and discomfort, they would not accomplish the purpose for which they are sent.

But, when we look at all of earth’s sorrows, sufferings, and trials in the light of His eternal glory; when we shall be like Him, enjoy His presence, and partake in His perfect kingdom, then we will look on these present inconveniences as nothing.

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” (1 John 3: 1-3)

They are not worthy to be compared to that glory.

The Lord Thinks On The Poor And Needy

“But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.” | Psalm 40: 17

What comfort there is for my soul to read that though I am nothing but sin… nothing but the lowest, most vile sinner, the Holy God thinks on me.

God’s thoughts toward the poor and needy sinner are thoughts of mercy and grace to deliver us from our great sin.

The word thinketh means more than just to ponder about in the mind.

It is the same word often translated imputed.

God’s thoughts are the same as God’s action because God always accomplishes His will.

“Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” (Psalm 40: 5)

When God thinks on the poor and needy sinner, He purposes to impute to them everything they need.

They are needy sinners so God gives them grace to forgive.

They are poor sinners so God gives them His rich grace.

They are in the prison of sin so God sends the Deliverer to set them free.

They are too weak to endure any trial or difficulty so God sent His Son to carry them all the way home on His shoulder.
