To Him Be Glory

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” | 2 Peter 3: 18

In everything concerning us, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is owed all the glory!

“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1: 3)

He is owed all the glory in creation – “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:” (Ephesians 1: 4)

He is owed all the glory in election – “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:”

“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” (Hebrews 9: 12)

He is owed all the glory in redemption – “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”

“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;” (Ephesians 2: 1)

He is owed all the glory in regeneration – “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;”

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2: 4-7)

He is owed all the glory in glorification – “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.”

Unto Him

“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” | Jude 24-25

This is the cry of every believing soul and the very heart of his worship of God.

It is the perfect salvation, by a perfect Savior, to a perfect God.

It is that a vile and wicked sinner is through the accomplished redemption of Christ made to stand faultless before the presence of a Holy God.

Having saved such wretches as we are, He now sits at the right hand of God to insure that we never again fall.

This is not only the heart of worship but the very heart of our faith.

He is able.

To top it all off Paul tells us that He performs this work with exceeding joy!

God help us never to lose sight of Him or forget what He has done, is doing, and yet shall do for us.

To Him be glory, majesty, dominion, and power both now and ever.

Amen.

Why Will Ye Die?

“Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”/i> | Ezekiel 33: 11

Every one will agree that fighting is very unbecoming to anyone who does so.

Yet, we find ourselves fighting on a daily basis.

In the work place we fight for our best interest among our co-workers.

In our schools, communities, and other circles of influence we fight to be the leader among our peers.

We fight to be happy then when we find a moments happiness, we fight to hang on to it.

Sadly, we call up our loved ones to find comfort, to pour out the sorrow of our hearts, and when they don’t say exactly what we want to hear, we fight against the ones we love.

Yet, after all our wrestling, in our heart-of-hearts, we find ourselves alone and defeated.

Paint it in any pretty pastel you want, but all of our warring in the flesh is due to sin and rebellion against God.

It is useless to fight against God.

No matter how religious a person appears in this world, fighting against God’s anointed Son only reveals absolute ignorance.

It brings no pleasure to God who has and will continue to glorify only His Son Jesus.

One may be respected for being a strong leader; nevertheless, denial by the strongest men never has prevented the Holy Spirit from exalting Christ and his finished work in the hearts of dead sinners.

Some may entertain the idea that the scriptures can be presented in a way to please everyone, but denying salvation to be by God’s grace alone only brings shame and division to any household.

Stiffening our necks when we hear God’s gospel concerning His Son only reveals an insane despiser of the one thing needful for our souls.

Not one of our evil ways brings honor to God.

God takes great pleasure in saving each and every child for whom Christ died for one reason and one reason only — he is delighted with his Son.

So why do we not turn from our evil ways?

Why continue to fight against God?

The only permanent peace of conscience you and I will ever have in this life is in complete and total surrender to God’s Son.

The only thing that will give us sound sleep when the night winds howl is the comfort of an unchanging, unchangeable, acceptance with God through his eternal redemption of our souls.

When we see eternity’s horizon coming fast upon us the only comfort we will have in this life is being persuaded by him that we are clothed in the perfect, spotless, robe of his righteousness.

May God burn these words into the hearts of every blood-bought child of his spiritual house, “Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”

He Hath Done Whatsoever He Hath Pleased

“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” | Psalm 115: 1-3

The gospel of God’s grace in Christ Jesus is not a thing to be proved, but truth to be believed.

It is not submitted to our reasoning powers as a subject for critical examination.

The gospel is a message from God, addressed to the conscience, feelings, and affections.

For this reason, men fond of arguing and proving everything by strictly logical deduction generally make very poor preachers.

In the Scriptures, God does not argue.

He proclaims!

“According to the Word of the Lord”

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” | John 1: 14

Such phrasing is often found in the book of God (38 times in the Old Testament); it means exactly as it sounds.

That our great and glorious Sovereign does upon earth and in Heaven as He pleases, when He pleases and where He pleases.

What God has determined to do, that He shall do and this He does for His church, His bride, His elect children.

Never in time shall that come to pass what Jehovah has NOT deemed to be done or purposed.

So comforting is this to His dear children that they may, as they say, take it to the bank. Whether we are speaking about our Savior’s promises to us or His plain and simple words towards us or even His precious Substitutionary work of redemption on our behalf; it is all the same, that which is done, shall be done simply because: it is “according to the word of the Lord.”

Oh, may we remember this, dear ones, as we seek to honor Him as we sojourn here upon this earth; nothing about our God is fickle or hints at instability, only the potsherds of this world have such characteristics.

To God be the glory both now and forever more.

Sovereign Grace

“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? | Acts 16: 25-30

Every sermon sent by God Almighty will always find its focus in the Person of the Lord Jesus.

He is the Alpha and Omega of life. He is the answer to all eternal questions and the purpose of all things. Comfort in all trials is found by hearing the message of Christ which proclaims His glory, work, and honor. We will never be found to honor Him more than to hear and believe His Gospel which, beginning with Moses and throughout all the prophets and in all the scriptures, declare those things that are concerning Him.

He That Glorieth, Let Him Glory in the Lord

“Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy, and for Thy Truth’s sake.” | Psalm 115: 1

The true test of whether the Gospel you trust in is THE GOSPEL can be answered by one simple question:

Does God get all the glory or does man?

The true Gospel ALWAYS glorifies God in the person and work of His Son! God’s Gospel gives glory to His wisdom, His power, His mercy, His grace, His love and most importantly HIS SON!

A false gospel will always in some way credit something to man. But the Word of God is clear that “No flesh should glory in His presence.” (I Corinthians 1: 29)

“That according as it is written, he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” (I Corinthians 1: 31)

Grow In Grace

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To HIM be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” | 2 Peter 3: 18

The apostle’s exhortation to us as God’s people who have been called by faith to believe on Christ is, “grow in grace.” When God‘s people “grow in grace,” they grow in the doctrine of grace. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2: 8-9) They grow in the object of grace – which is Christ Himself! “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.” (2 Timothy 1: 9) “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 2: 1) And when God‘s people “grow in grace,” they grow in the practice of grace.

Psalm 111: 4 says, “…the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.” And all who “grow in grace” say, “As He is, I desire to be.” True growth in grace says with David, “I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with THY likeness.” (Psalm 17:15)

The doctrine! The object! The practice!

“Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To HIM be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (2 Peter 3: 17,18)
