By The Blood

”Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” | Hebrews 10: 19-22

The word “boldness” means “liberty.”

”In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.” (Ephesians 3: 12)

Under the old covenant the worshippers could never enter the holiest of holies because the way into the holiest of all — that way being, Christ Jesus the Lord – had not yet been made manifest while that first tabernacle was yet standing.

”Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:” (Hebrews 9: 6-8)

God’s law had to be satisfied on behalf of all God’s elect.

”Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.” (Exodus 34: 7)

The sins of those people given to Christ before the world had to be officially put away by Christ Jesus the Lord.

”For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” (Hebrews 9: 26)

Christ our High Priest had to enter into God’s presence with his own blood as our forerunner through the veil.

”And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.” (Mark 15: 38)

”Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.” (Hebrews 7: 27)

But now, brethren, the believer has liberty to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.

”By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” (Hebrews 10: 10)

”Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” (Hebrews 6: 19)

His blood is our right into God’s throne room of grace. ‘By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.’

”Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” (Hebrews 10: 19-22)

Christ’s blood is our access to our heavenly Father.

When you cry, “Abba, Father” it is Christ’s blood that guarantees your loving Father hears you.

Sinner’s saved by grace cannot say too much about the blood of Christ!

Rejoicing In The Lord

“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” | Philippians 4: 4

Believers in the Lord Jesus do rejoice in the Lord always.

They rejoice that His grace is always sufficient, that His blood ever cleanses them from all sin, that by His righteousness imputed to them they are justified before the law, that His love for them never fails, that by His providence He continually works all things together for their good, to them who are the called according to His purpose, that His intercession before the Father on their behalf is continual and rejoice that their names are written in heaven.

His Blood Alone

“Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.” | Romans 11: 3

The vital thing to understand about the blood of Christ is this: IT IS ENOUGH!

Nothing else is needed to accomplish the salvation of all for whom His blood was shed.

Not His blood plus my works; not His blood plus my “decision”; not His blood plus the ordinances; not His blood plus church membership; not even His blood plus my faith – His blood purchased my faith.

“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” (Hebrews 9: 12)

HIS BLOOD ALONE paid the price required by His justice, and His blood alone can make a sinner clean. “By His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having OBTAINED (not made possible) eternal redemption for us”

His Hands And Side

“And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.” | John 20: 20

These poor, miserable disciples had forsaken the Lord Jesus in the hour of his greatest need.

Peter had denied him three times and even swore that he never knew him.

Oh, the guilt they felt upon their conscience for their sin; the shame and fear of it all had now overwhelmed them.

They were hiding out in an upper room.

“And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.” (Mark 16: 10)

All you could hear from them was mourning and weeping and groans — “They mourned and wept,”.

Now, in the midst of such felt misery, the resurrected Lord stands in their midst and says, “Peace be unto you.”

Then He shows unto each of them the prints in his hands and the hole in his side.

Then something amazing suddenly happened, “Then,” immediately upon seeing these scars, “Then were the disciples glad.”

There is no doubt what brought this sudden change; they saw the scars in his hands and side.

What was it about these scars that gave them such gladness?

Well, many things no doubt, but, think of this; the scars told them that their sins had been atoned for; their sins had been punished, their sins had been put away.

Can you imagine such a thing as this, while Peter and the rest of the disciples were mourning over their sins; their sins had already been atoned for!

And these scars were the proof of it! — “Our awful sin! The shame of what we have done! GONE! And here are the scars to prove it!”

How often you and I are so conscious of our sin.

The thought of it weighs heavy upon our minds and often affects us in such a negative way.

We hide out in our little upper rooms and mourn and weep and we are hardly fit to worship or serve or do anything.

Here is our remedy.

By the eye of faith upon the Word of God, get a sight of Jesus’ scars.

Your sins have been punished to the fullest extent.

They have already been atoned for just as surely as the sins of those disciples were.

“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” (John 20: 31)

If God has punished them in his Son, why carry them any longer on your conscience?

What Is The Gospel?

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;” | Titus 3: 5,6

Whatever a sinner harps on, that’s where his hope is.

If a sinner harps on: “Man’s Works! Man’s Works!” that’s where his hope is.

If a sinner harps on: “The Blood of Christ! The Blood of Christ!” that’s where his hope is.

Then Sings My Soul!

“He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.” | Isaiah 42: 4

There is a beautiful song in our hymnal titled: “How Great Thou Art.”

The third verse of that song says, “And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in – that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin… Then sings my soul!”

Once salvation is revealed to a child of God, from that moment forward the soul of that child sings the glory and greatness of the God who saved him or her.

“Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.” (Colossians 3: 11)

The body may break, but the soul will never stop singing!

The heart may ache, but the soul will never stop singing!

Everything about the physical, mental, and emotional state of the child may be silenced under the overwhelming weight and oppression of sin, but knowing what the blood of Christ has done for sinners will cause the soul of that child to never stop singing, “My Savior God, to Thee; How great Thou art, How great Thou art!”

Sacrifice

”And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” | Romans 8: 28-31

Sacrifice means to ‘suffer loss’ …’give up something.’

The Lord Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself to God for His people.

He ‘suffered many things’ because of us.

He suffered the wrath and judgment of God against our sins.

He gave His life for His sheep.

He ‘gave up’ His glory, honour and happiness in Heaven to become a man of sorrows and be a servant to God and men.

He gave every waking hour of His thirty-three years on earth for us; and He did it willingly and happily, knowing it was for God’s glory and our good.

Now… scripture says to those whom Christ did this for: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12: 1)

Let each of us ask ourselves:

In light of what Christ has done for me, what have I done for Him?

In light of what Christ has done for me, what have I done for His People?

In light of what Christ has done for me, what have I suffered the loss of?

In light of what Christ has done for me, what have I given up?

In light of what Christ has done for me, how much of myself, my time, my material goods (which He gave us) have I given to the cause of Christ, support of the gospel and the care of His church?

In light of what Christ has done for me, have I made any sacrifice at all?

In light of what Christ has done for me, have I suffered the loss of anything or given up anything or anyone for Christ, Who gave Himself for me?

If You Be Circumcised

”Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.” | Galatians 5: 2

It is a man’s guilt that makes Christ necessary for Him; but it is a man’s righteousness that will render Christ ineffective for him.

The blood of Christ is the remedy for a man’s sin, but what shall avail for a remedy for a man’s righteousness? Only the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit of God is able to overcome a man’s resistance to the grace of the blood and to make him despair of even his righteousness.

But, to refine the point even more, it is the Holy Spirit’s work in revealing the testimony of the blood of Christ that breaks the self-righteous will of man and makes him submit to Christ as his only righteousness before God.

So it is the blood poured out by Christ that remedies the sin of a man, and it is that same blood revealed by the Holy Spirit that remedies the righteousness of man.
