THE SPIRIT OF HIS SON

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” | Galatians 4: 6

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” (Romans 8: 15)

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8: 26-27)

This is too wonderful for me!

But it is so because God says it!

In Galatians 4: 6 it is the Spirit of his Son himself within our hearts, crying Abba, Father. In Romans 8: 15 the Spirit of adoption makes us cry. Then in Romans 8: 26 when we cannot pray, the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which we cannot utter and God, who knows our hearts, knows the mind of the Spirit within us because the Spirit makes intercession according to the will of God.

Is this not the only reason why the apostle Peter’s faith failed not?

Is it not the only reason our faith fails not?

Even when Peter appeared outwardly to have denied the Lord, Christ prayed for him, not only at God’s right hand but also within his heart.

This is an illustration of what Paul meant when he said, “the life I now live in the flesh, I live by the FAITH OF THE SON GOD…” The Spirit of God’s Son within us is the Faith of our faith, even when unbelief makes it appear we believe not.

With the Spirit of Christ in us we are so one with Christ that by the Spirit of the Son crying, Abba, Father we cry Abba, Father. The Spirit within makes intercession for us even when we know not what we should pray for as we ought and cannot utter a word. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians chapter 2 that we have the mind of Christ.

Here he says God who knows our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit within us because the Spirit makes intercession for us according to God’s will. This is more than this sinner can understand. But I am so thankful it is so!

Christ is the Faith of our faith and the Intercessor of our prayers.

OUR PORTION AND INHERITANCE

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” | I Timothy 1: 15

One who is born of God has the Lord as his portion and inheritance.

He is thankful for who he is and what he has; for in Christ he has “all things” that are worth having. Having food and clothing and believing friends, he is content. He brought nothing into this world and will carry nothing out.

Earthly possessions, honors, and property have no value after death; but to be forgiven of sin and alive in Christ is the highest prize and glory.

As soon as a person really learns, believes, and embraces the grace of Christ, like Moses, “he esteems even the reproach of Christ greater than the riches of this world.”

But they that seek after riches and worldly honor fall into many temptations, which drown men in destruction and misery.

This craving for the world’s wealth and approval has caused many to depart from the faith and pierce themselves through with many sorrows. (I Timothy 6: 6-10)

How Sinful are We?

“Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” | Romans 3: 25-26

We can read the Scriptures which declare, “There is none good, no not one… every imagination of man’s heart is only evil continually… our righteousnesses are filthy rags… man at his best state is vanity;” but what makes this question difficult to answer is the fact that we have such little understanding of true holiness.

We compare ourselves with ourselves and arrive at a weak, perverted view of sin.

A man’s conception of sin is determined by his understanding of TRUE HOLINESS. I declare, without reservation, that a man will never come to an understanding of the exceeding sinfulness of sin until he sees the holiness and righteousness of the Lord God!

Job was an honest, upright, and righteous man in his own eyes until he saw the Lord; and then he cried, “I abhor myself.”

Isaiah put a “woe” on everyone else until he saw the Lord; and then he cried, “Woe is ME, I am undone.”

Until preachers begin to preach the true character of our God in His awesome holiness, justice, and righteousness, men will not be convicted of sin, righteousness, and judgement and will continue in their efforts to establish a righteousness of their own, denying the necessity of a REDEEMER, who alone can enable God to be both just and justifier.

The Believer’s Appetite

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” | Romans 8: 35

The Believer is alive unto God and proves it by his appetite.

He hungers after righteousness, he thirsts after the water of Life.

He cries for mercy.

He seeks the Lord.

These are evidences of the Life of God in the soul.

Dead men have none of these appetites.

Thank God for this spiritual appetite, for He will fill it.

What Is Your Comfort?

“And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.” | Job 1: 5</b

Are you happy?

Yes! but I am not without times of sorrow and depression.

Like any human, I weep over loved ones, friends, sickness, death, and disappointment. But I sorrow not as those who have no hope. CHRIST IS MY HOPE! He loved me, gave Himself for me, and will make ALL THESE THINGS work together for my eternal good.

Are you at rest in your soul?

Yes! but I am not free from concern and conviction over my sins and my infirmities.

I love Christ but not as I should or as I desire. I am satisfied with Him, His mercy, His grace, and His love; but I will never be totally satisfied until I wake with His likeness.

Do you have peace?

Yes! but that peace with God, peace of conscience, and peace in any situation or condition is not based on my merit, feelings, nor religious duties. CHRIST IS MY PEACE! He said, “In ME ye have peace. In the world ye shall have trouble.”

Any man or woman who claims continual, uninterrupted joy, rest, and peace in this world is either not telling the truth or has no connection with reality! True joy, rest, and peace are things we enjoy in Christ IN THE MIDST of troubles, afflictions, and infirmities.

Paul’s exhortation was “rejoice in the Lord.”

When I am conscious of my weakness, failures, and sins, I rejoice in Christ, my righteousness. When I am concerned about food, clothing, and shelter, I rejoice in Christ, my provider. When I am sick, Christ is my healer. When I am grieved, Christ is my comfort. When I am faced with death, Christ is my life!

So it is not necessary to put on a false face and deceive others. We are still human; but our peace, rest, and joy is Christ.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on Thee.”

CHRIST IS FAITHFUL

“Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.” | II Samuel 23: 5

Jeremiah wrote, “Great is THY faithfulness.”

We preach and exhort our hearers to be faithful stewards of the grace of God, faithful givers to help others, faithful in worship, prayer, and holiness. And we will be faithful by His grace and because He has given us a new heart which desires to walk with Him.

But even when we fail, fall, and make a mess of things, HE IS FAITHFUL: and our hope of life and glory is not in OUR faithfulness but in HIS faithfulness.

God is faithful to His Son, to His covenant, and to His Word. And this was David’s comfort when he lay dying – not in his works, service, nor even his faith, but in God’s faithfulness to His covenant.

OH! SWEET GRACE, BLESSED GRACE

“For by grace are you saved.” | Ephesians 2: 8

We are saved by grace—free grace, rich grace, sovereign grace, distinguishing grace—without one atom of works, without one grain of creature merit, without anything of the flesh.

Oh! Sweet grace, blessed grace!

Oh! what a help — what a strength — what a rest for a poor toiling, striving, laboring soul—to find that grace has done all the work—to feel that grace has triumphed in the cross of Christ—to find that nothing is required, nothing is needed, nothing is to be done!

God’s Infinite Mercy And Invincible Power To Save

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” | Galatians 3: 13

John Newton, a great preacher and writer of many great hymns, such as Amazing Grace, was talking with a preacher friend of his, William Jay. Mr. Jay was telling Mr. Newton how encouraged he was in the conversion of a notorious rebel they both knew, whereupon John Newton replied: “Since the Lord saved ME, I have despaired of no man living!” And I am quite sure there were many who despaired of ever seeing me saved.

How about you?

The salvation of notorious sinners is a tribute to God’s infinite mercy and invincible power to save.

The thief on the cross, Mary Magdalene, the Gadarene demoniac, Saul of Tarsus, and so many others, will forever be trophies of the Lord’s power to save. Though “with man it is impossible,” (you and I can’t save or even convince one person of anything) yet “with God ALL things are possible…” yea certain if it is His will.

So take courage people, in the hope that God saves even the chief of sinners.

As long as the gospel is being preached, as long as there is hope of someone hearing that gospel, there is hope of their salvation. So keep praying for that friend or loved one, keep giving out CDs, keep inviting to hear the preaching, for it may be… in the Lord’s good time, the Lord will cause them to come, hear, and be saved.

It happened to some of us didn’t it?

THE GOSPEL I PREACH

“O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. | Psalm 96: 1-4

The gospel I preach is the “gospel of God.” (Romans 1: 1)

I fear Him and the glory of His name more than I do those to whom I speak. I had rather ruffle YOUR feathers than dishonor His character.

I persuade men with a view to His name and glory, knowing He alone can convince, convict, and regenerate dead sinners. I want men and women to believe but I want more the integrity of His name to be maintained.

In II Corinthians 5: 18-20, it says God has given to us the ministry of reconciliation and that we are therefore “…ambassadors for Christ as though GOD did beseech you by us; we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”

It is not my purpose to intentionally offend anyone but if someone must be offended, I had rather it be those who hear me than the God who sent me.

It’s Simple

“If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.” | 2 Corinthians 11: 30

One of the old writers once said: “Do not look for that in the law which can only be found in the gospel; do not look for that in ourselves which is only to be found in Christ; do not look for that in the creature (i.e, man) which can only be found in the Creator; and do not look for that on earth which can only be found in Heaven.”
