Salvation Is Of The Lord

“But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.” | Psalm 37: 39

What glorious and blessed truth that shines on every page of Holy Scripture.

We as needy, great and guilty sinners need a mighty and victorious Saviour, who is almighty to save. (Isaiah 63: 1; Hebrews 7: 25) The Lord Jesus Christ is the only answer and remedy for our sin. He is the Saviour that saves, (Matthew 1: 21) the Redeemer that delivers and justifies. (Galatians 1: 3-5; Romans 5: 6)

What a full and complete revelation God gives of His, so great salvation it is ALL of the Lord. (Hebrews 2: 3)

Notice each of these five words:

1). Salvation; is the total and complete deliverance from all our sin. From the penalty, guilt and power of sin to condemn us. (Romans 8: 1; Romans 8: 32-35)

2). Salvation IS; because our great God is the God of salvation. God is love. (1 John 4: 8-10) God is good. (Psalm 73: 1) God is merciful and delights to show it to sinners. (Micah 7: 18-19; 1 Timothy 1: 15)

3). Salvation is OF …Not of works, not of merit, not of the law but rather all of grace alone. (2 Corinthians 8: 9; Acts 15: 11; 2 Timothy 1: 9)

4). Salvation is of THE Lord, there is just one way of salvation. Our Lord plainly said that He is The Way, The Truth, The Life, The Door, The Light, The Bread of life, The Good Shepherd, and The Resurrection. (John 14: 6; John 10: 9; John 8: 12; John 6: 35; John 11: 25)

5). Salvation is of the LORD; the Lord Jesus Christ. It is who He is that gives infinite power to what He accomplished for us upon the cross. (Acts 20: 28) Christ crucified is the only sacrifice for sin. (1 Corinthians 2: 2) The Lord did not die to make an effort to put away sin but rather to make complete atonement for sin of His people that God might be the just God and Saviour. (1 John 4: 10; John 19: 30)

Hope For the Defiled

“There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.” | Mark 7: 15

I should never have found peace with God nor come to love the Lord at all if it had not been that I distinctly saw that He, Who knew no sin, was made sin for me that I may be made the righteousness of God in Him.

Born Again

“Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” | John 3: 1-8

“Born Again” What does that mean?

These days almost everyone talks about being born again; but virtually no one knows what the Word of God teaches about the new birth.

Let me address the subject in simple, clear, unmistakable terms. I want you to understand what the new birth is and how it is accomplished.

More importantly, I want you to be born again.

May God be pleased to make it so for Christ’s sake. Look at those five words, and ask God to give you wisdom and grace to understand what they mean. — “Ye must be born again!”

Cast All On Christ

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” | John 15:13

The most difficult thing for any of us to do is to TOTALLY and COMPLETELY trust and rest in our blessed Lord Jesus to redeem us, sanctify us, and make us accepted of the Father.

We are so prone to self-righteousness and works that we have a constant battle trying to remember that “man at his BEST STATE is altogether vanity” but also that, in his WEAKEST MOMENTS, is no less loved and accepted if he is in Christ.

As Brother Don Fortner said, “My relationship with the eternal God (in Christ) does in great measure determine what I do. But what I do (good or bad) in no way determines my relationship with the eternal God.” Actually, “In my flesh dwelleth NO GOOD THING.”

It is in Christ that the Father is well-pleased; and only in Christ can He love, accept, and be pleased with me.

I did not come to Christ on the basis of my works, nor am I kept in Christ on the basis of my works!

I looked to Him THEN for ALL THINGS, and I look to Him NOW for ALL THINGS!

Any look within will serve only to discourage and depress me; but, looking to Christ, the author and finisher of my faith, will only encourage me, for He never changes. His gift of life and calling to grace is without change.

The command, “Look unto Me and be ye saved,” is not only the hope and strength of the seeking sinner, but it is the constant hope and strength of the believing sinner.

I know my sins, but I rejoice in his grace.

I know my weakness, but I rest in His strength.

I know my emptiness, but I am complete in Him.

“O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear” all because we do not cast our sins and our souls on Christ and LEAVE THEM THERE!

Two Questions: Two Religions

“For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” | Romans 10: 3-4

Sooner could the ocean prove too little for a small fish or the sky be too small for a swallow than the grace of God prove insufficient for one of God’s people.

Not all their weaknesses, failures or sins can use it up.

The Waters of Marah

“And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.” | Exodus 15: 23

My soul!

Let thine imagination take wing, and flee thou, this evening, beside” the waters of Marah;” and while thou sittest down by the stream, see whether thou wilt be able to gather some of the many improving lessons the Holy Ghost brings before the church, concerning that memorable transaction wrought there for Israel.

We read in the history of that people, that they had just before sung the song of salvation, on the borders of the Red Sea, when Israel saw that great sight, themselves redeemed, and the enemy swallowed up; and they were now on their march toward the promised land. Three days they had travelled into the wilderness, and found no water; and when they came to Marah, though water was there in abundance, yet they could not drink of it, for it was bitter.

In this situation they cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed the people a tree, which when east into the waters made them sweet. Such are the outlines of the history. Pause, now, my soul, and see what improving reflections thou canst gather from it.

The Lord thy God hath brought thee also out of spiritual Egypt, he hath led thee through a new and living way, even the red sea of Christ’s blood; and thou hast begun thy song of salvation also, to God and the Lamb. But when, like Israel, he is bringing thee through the wilderness, where dispensations suited to a wilderness may be supposed to abound; how art thou manifesting thy faith and submission?

Reader, what is your answer to such a question?

Methinks I would hope better things of you, than I dare say of myself. But I too often find, when the waters of life are like the waters of Marah; when what I proposed for my comfort turns out to my sorrow, and I discover a worm in the very bud of some sweet flower I have been rearing up for myself with great care; I feel rebellion rising within. I blush even now in the recollection of how often I have been tempted to call in question the divine faithfulness, and, like Israel, have taken offence, at some little difficulty I have met with, which afterwards I have discovered, was purposely put there by the Lord himself, to manifest his watchfulness over me, and how sure my dependence upon him might have been placed.

Reader!

Doth your heart find but too much correspondence to this state of mine?

Let us both then do as Israel did, when at any time our waters are like the waters of Marah, cry unto the Lord. Let us put the cross of Jesus into the stream, be it what it may, (for that is the tree which the Lord sheweth his people) and never doubt, but Jesus’s cross, though to him more bitter than gall, yet to us will prove the sweetener of all our crosses.

Yes! thou dear Lord!

Thou didst drink the cup of trembling even to the dregs, that in the view of it, thy redeemed might take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.

Thy cross, if cast into a sea of trouble, will alter the very properties of affliction to all thy tried ones.

In every place, and in every state, while my soul is enabled to keep thee in remembrance, and “thy wormwood, and thy gall;” the wilderness of all my dispensations will smile, and blossom as the rose. I shall then learn to bless a taking God, as well as a giving God, for both are alike from the overflowings of thy mercy; and, like the apostle, I shall then have learnt the blessedness of that state, “to glory in tribulation, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Our Lord Came on Purpose

“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” | Matthew 5: 11-12

Our Lord came on purpose, to save a particular people, and He accomplished what He came to do!

If you are one of those particular people, and if He accomplished salvation for you, then He will notify you of it through the preaching of His Word.

In His notification, He will convince you of the fact that you are a sinner; the worst sinner you’ve ever known!

That is the very reason why He had to die. It was to save you from your sins.

His death was God the Father’s free gift to you. And in His free gift, you are completely redeemed!

It was all appointed by the Father, and obtained by the Son.

To Him be glory forever!

I Commend You To God

“And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified” | Acts 20: 32

As Paul departs from the elders from Ephesus he gives them this good and true word by inspiration of God. (2 Timothy 3: 16) It was not only good for those to hear in that day but also for us today. (Romans 10: 17)

What blessing to be given over to the total care and keeping of the Lord Jesus Christ; the good, great and chief Shepherd of the sheep. (Psalm 23: 1-4) We are truly and fully in His almighty hands, (John 10: 27-30) kept by His power, (1 Peter 1: 5) justified by His grace, (Romans 3: 24) redeemed by His blood (1 Peter 1: 18) and blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ. (Ephesians 1: 3)

But the apostle Paul also adds to that recommendation, “To the word of His grace;” this is the same as the gospel of His grace that is the power of God unto salvation, (Acts 20: 24; Romans 1: 16) who is also the God of all grace and glory. (1 Peter 5: 10)

And then Paul tells us what the word of His grace will do for the believer in Christ, “Which is able to build you up and to give you an inheritance;” not puff us up with religious pride but rather build us up in faith, grace and love in Christ. Our Lord said, “Upon this rock, (foundation) I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Isaiah 28: 16; Matthew 16: 18)

The Lord Jesus Christ is our total and complete inheritance. (Romans 8: 17; Ephesians 1: 11; 1 Peter 1: 3)

These blessings of the gospel are sovereignly and exclusively given only to those that are sanctified in Christ; (1 Corinthians 1: 30) “Among all them which are sanctified.”

How are sinners sanctified?

Not by anything we do!

But rather upon the sacrifice of Christ for us, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Hebrews 10: 14)

Christ Is Precious

“Unto you therefore which believe he is precious.” | 1 Peter 2: 7

It is impossible for those who believe in Christ to fully express the preciousness of Him to them.

1). He is precious to every believer because He is their life. “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5: 12)

2). He is precious to every believer because He is their clothing. The best robe that the Father gives or imputes to every son that He receives is the righteousness of Christ. It is the robe of His spinning by His perfect obedience and sacrifice.

3). He is precious to every believer because He is their food. Just as the Israel of old feasted on the Paschal Lamb so God’s spiritual Israel feasts on the Lamb of God. We continually feast upon his flesh and drink His blood; we continually look to His one sacrifice that atones for all the sins of His elect.

4). He is precious to every believer for He is our hiding place. In the storms of life we say with the psalmist: “Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be over past.” (Psalm 57: 2)

The Prayer of Faith

“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” | James 5: 15-16

James assures us that the prayer of faith, the prayer that is born of and caused by faith in Christ, shall save the sick.

Of course the word “save” means “deliver.” The prayer of faith shall, most assuredly, deliver the sick from his sickness.

What is “the prayer of faith”? The next verse tell us: “The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

THE PRAYER OF FAITH IS “EFFECTUAL.” The word used by James means “in wrought”. It is a prayer wrought in, or produced in the heart of a believer by the Spirit of God. It is a prayer that is found in the heart, (II Samuel 7: 27) produced by the work of God and based upon the Word of God. Without question, the prayer of faith willingly submits to the will of God. But there is more to it than that. The prayer of faith discerns what the will of God is by the illumination of the Holy Spirit in his heart. (Romans 8: 27) And the prayer of faith is according to the will of God. (I John 5: 14)

THE PRAYER OF FAITH IS “FERVENT.” Faith is importunate. It will not give up its plea until it obtains the mercy it seeks. (Luke 11: 8-10) Like the Syrophenician woman, faith cannot be turned away. (Matthew 15: 21-28)

THE PRAYER OF FAITH IS THE PRAYER OF “A RIGHTEOUS MAN,” one who has been made righteous by the imputation of Christ’s righteousness to him and by the cleansing of his blood. It is the prayer of one who draws near to, calls upon, and is accepted of God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 14: 15; Hebrews 7: 25)

AND THE PRAYER OF FAITH “AVAILETH MUCH.” The prayer of the righteous is God’s delight; therefore “he heareth the prayer of the righteous” (Proverbs 15: 8,29) “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” (I John 5: 14-15) We have what we desire, because what we desire is what our heavenly Father desires – his will and his glory. We gladly subject all our desires to these two things. The prayer of faith is free of selfish desire and personal want. (James 4: 3) The prayer of faith wants what God has purposed. Therefore, it is always effectual.

If my will is subject to and in harmony with my Father’s will, I may, and most assuredly shall have what I will.
