Blessed Assurance

Assurance of salvation and a saving interest in our Lord Jesus is NOT A FEELING cultivated by thinking good thoughts and doing good deeds. Paul calls it “full assurance of faith.” (Hebrews 10: 22)

It has to do with faith, with BELIEVING GOD!

Assurance is born of CONFIDENCE IN THE FATHER as our covenant God; “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”

Assurance is born of CONFIDENCE IN THE SON as our just God and Saviour; “By His stripes we are healed.”

Assurance is born of CONFIDENCE IN HIS PROMISES; “Abraham was fully persuaded that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.”

So your assurance of redemption is not enhanced by the MORE YOU WORK, but by the MORE YOU TRUST AND REST IN HIM. “Let us labor therefore to enter into THAT REST” (Hebrews 4: 11).

Grow In Grace

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To HIM be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” | 2 Peter 3:18

The apostle’s exhortation to us as God’s people who have been called by faith to believe on Christ is, “grow in grace.” When God‘s people “grow in grace,” they grow in the doctrine of grace.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” | Ephesians 2: 8-9

They grow in the object of grace – which is Christ Himself! “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.” | 2 Timothy 1: 9

“Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” | 2 Timothy 2: 1

And when God‘s people “grow in grace,” they grow in the practice of grace.

Psalm 111: 4 says, “…the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.” And all who “grow in grace” say, “As He is, I desire to be.” True growth in grace says with David, “I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with THY likeness.” | Psalm 17: 15

The doctrine!

The object!

The practice!

“Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To HIM be glory both now and for ever. Amen. | 2 Peter 3: 17,18

It Shall Be Perfect To Be Accepted

The voice from the cross did not summon men to do, but to be satisfied with what was done, “It is finished.”

The sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only perfect thing which has ever been presented to God on man’s behalf.

“It shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein.” | Leviticus 22: 21

Christ Is Precious

“Unto you therefore which believe he is precious.” (1 Peter 2: 7) It is impossible for those who believe in Christ to fully express the preciousness of Him to them.

1). He is precious to every believer because He is their life. “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5: 12)

2). He is precious to every believer because He is their clothing. The best robe that the Father gives or imputes to every son that He receives is the righteousness of Christ. It is the robe of His spinning by His perfect obedience and sacrifice.

3). He is precious to every believer because He is their food. Just as the Israel of old feasted on the Paschal Lamb so God’s spiritual Israel feasts on the Lamb of God. We continually feast upon his flesh and drink His blood; we continually look to His one sacrifice that atones for all the sins of His elect.

4). He is precious to every believer for He is our hiding place. In the storms of life we say with the psalmist: “Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be over past.” (Psalm 57: 2)

I Will Never Leave Thee Nor Forsake Thee

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” | Hebrews 13: 5

Children of God often find themselves in distress and sorrow in this world and in uncertainty about the happenings of this world.

So we need to be reminded often that our comfort and confidence comes from the certainty of salvation in Christ and His constant presence with His people.

His precious promise to never leave nor forsake His people comforts our heart in the worst sorrow and the greatest uncertainty about the things of this world.

Exhortation to Faith, Patience, and Godliness

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

“Lifelock”

“At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” | John 14: 20

Recently I received an advertisement from a company called “LifeLock.” It is a company that provides security against “identity theft.” Identity theft has undoubtedly become a real issue and problem in today’s world. Crooks and thieves steal your identity and run up debt in your name. As I read over that advertisement, I was thinking how the Lord Jesus did that to His people in reverse.

Without their permission, He assumed the believer’s identity. He stepped into their personal business, the business between them and God and He took their place. (1 Timothy 2: 5) He took control of their account and made it His own.

He didn’t take control of their identity to add debt like a thief does. NO! He took control of the believer’s account in order to pay the debt of sin that they had accumulated. He took my debt and paid it in full as a rich friend might do.

O what a rich friend Christ is. He is rich in love, mercy, grace and forgiveness. How many friends do you have that would die to pay the debt you owe? Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. Now, I have His perfect identity, and I am eternally life-locked to Him.

The Lord Saves Sinners

Our Lord is both WILLING to save sinners and ABLE to save them.

If He is willing but not able, we have no hope; if He is able but not willing, the result is the same.

But if He is both willing and able to save by His perfect sin-offering, there is no reason for me to despair.

The Glorious Death of the Lord Jesus Christ

“Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died.”

And what if He did not die?

  • Cain would be condemned, and so would Abel.
  • Esau would be cut off, but so would Jacob.
  • Pharaoh would be damned, but so would Moses.
  • Judas would be cast into the lake of fire, but so would Peter, James, and John.
  • Agrippa would perish, but so would Paul.

The point is, our sole and only reason for being saved is His death. “If when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son.” God was completely satisfied by the death of His Son. His justice was honored, sin was punished, paid for, and put away. God can ask for nothing more! And however satisfied He is with the death of His Son is how satisfied He is with those He died for.

Oh how glorious is the death of Christ. It is the subject of the eternities! It is the sure and only ground of the salvation of the believer.
