Which Gospel Do You Trust?

“Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy, and for Thy Truth’s sake.” | Psalm 115: 1

The true test of whether the Gospel you trust in is THE GOSPEL can be answered by one simple question:

Does God get all the glory or does man?

The true Gospel ALWAYS glorifies God in the person and work of His Son!

“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.” (1 Corinthians 1: 27-29)

God’s Gospel gives glory to His wisdom, His power, His mercy, His grace, His love and most importantly HIS SON!

“That according as it is written, he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1: 31)

A false gospel will always in some way credit something to man.

But the Word of God is clear that “No flesh should glory in His presence”.

Righteous And Justified In Him

”I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed. In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.” | Isaiah 45: 23-25

The Lord declares that He will require no more than He gives, that He will give what He requires, and that He will accept what He gives; and what can God say more?

”For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” (Romans 3: 23-26)

And what can a gracious soul desire more?

The Righteousness Of God

Psalm 143

What do you know about the righteousness of God?

Not only His personal and essential righteousness, but the righteousness and holiness He requires of all who would “see the Lord,” and the righteousness He has purchased and provided for them?

I can show you from the Scriptures the awful and awesome importance of the subject.

The very NAME of our Redeemer is, “THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD.”

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)

The heart and essence of the gospel is to reveal THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1: 16-17)

Our Lord’s being made sin and dying on the cross for us was in order that we might be made, “THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM.”

“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5: 20-21)

The Apostle pronounces all religious people unsaved who are ignorant of THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD and who are seeking to establish their own righteousness. “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” (Romans 10: 1-4)

“For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5: 20)

“Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,” (Romans 4: 6)

“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” (Romans 10: 4)

The Righteousness Of God

“And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.” | Revelation 19: 5-6

“The righteousness of God,” i.e., a righteousness of God’s completing, a righteousness of God’s bestowing, a righteousness that God gives unto and puts upon all them that believe, a righteousness that stands in the works of Christ and that is imputed both by the grace and justice of God.

This righteousness by which we stand just before God, from the curse, was performed long ago by the person of Christ.

May God Be Mindful of Us

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” | 1 Corinthians 1: 30,31

May God give us the wisdom to know that Christ IS all!

May God cover us in the righteousness (the goodness and obedience) of Christ, OUR all!

May God see us in the sanctification (the holiness and purity) of Christ, GOD’S all!

And may the only payment offered to God for the redemption of our sin be Christ – AS all!

Except Your Righteousness Be Perfect

“For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven” | Matthew 5: 20

Beloved, it is by the doing and dying of Christ that we are saved. “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” (Genesis 3: 21)

Indeed, through the death of His sin atoning blood and the life of His perfect righteousness as our substitute, we are and SHALL BE SAVED. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1: 21)

It is not enough that you have your sins forgiven, in fact you must be made the perfect righteousness of God! Through Christ, through His perfect life as a man, our Heavenly Father made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5: 21)

All the Scribes, all the Popes, all the Buddhas, Mohamed and all who follow them—all need a righteousness that exceeds their own to go to heaven; they need the perfect righteousness of Christ. “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.” (Isaiah 40: 1-2)

Reader, God give you grace to hear and believe His Son, for without His righteousness, no one comes to the Father, as our Lord plainly tells us “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14: 6)

Beloved, it is by the doing and dying of the Lord Jesus Christ that we are saved – for if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5: 10)

To you who believe; rest with us, for we have received double of the Lord’s hand! “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 54: 17)

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” (1 Corinthians 1: 30)

Not only do we have a full and complete pardon of all our sins; much more beloved, He has removed our iniquity from us and clothed us with His perfect life; indeed His perfect righteousness.

AMEN!

The End Is Greater Than The Means

”For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” | Romans 5: 6-8

The ultimate end or goal of redemption is not the happiness, well-being, or even conversion of sinners, BUT THE GLORY OF GOD.

“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” (Ephesians 1: 6)

Man’s comfort and safety is not the supreme goal of God’s glorious gospel.

“That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.” (Ephesians 1: 12)

The supreme goal of our gospel is the glory of God, the establishment of His rule and reign over a kingdom of peace and righteousness, the exaltation and manifestation of His character, and the preeminence of His beloved Son.

“Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1: 14)

Our salvation will serve that purpose.

“Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2: 6-11)

Everything in covenant mercies, in salvation, and in God’s purpose for the sons of men (past, present, and future) turns upon the will of God in Christ. This makes CHRIST THE PRINCIPAL FIGURE in our gospel, our goals, and our glory. But, if you have salvation and God’s purpose waiting upon the freewill of the creature, then MAN is the principal figure in your landscape and will lead you to compromise divine truth in order to win man’s approval.

The attitude that we must get men converted at any cost and compromise usually winds up costing the very character and truth of God, which is a price too high to pay.

Conversions are never more important than truth.

Truth is always more important than results.

“Let God be true and every man a liar!”

More To Follow!

”But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. And he arose, and departed to his house.” | Matthew 9: 6-7

Roland Hill was an English preacher of yesteryear who loved to bring the love of God to the poor, and the struggling of London.

On one occasion he was given a rather large sum of money to help support the pastor of a church in a low-income area. Thinking that the amount was too much to send in one lump sum he decided to send it in stages. Each week Roland Hill sent a portion of the gift with a note that simply said, “More to follow!”

Within a few days the pastor received another envelope containing the same amount of money with the same message, “More to follow.” Then there came a third, and then a fourth. In fact they continued with regularity, always accompanied by those comforting and cheering words, until the entire sum had been exhausted.

When God forgives our sins, there is more forgiveness to follow.

He justifies us in the righteousness of Christ, but there is more to follow.

He adopts us into His family, but there is more to follow.

He prepares us for heaven, but there is more to follow.

He gives us grace, but there is more to follow.

He helps us in old age, but there is still more to follow.

Even when we arrive in the world to come, there will still be more to follow.

God’s People Are Blessed Above All People

”Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance” | Psalm 89: 15

This Psalm declares in such a plain and powerful way all the covenant promises made with the Lord Jesus Christ that are eternal and certain.

Many commentators of scripture have called this Psalm, “The glorious covenant Psalm” and truly it is. We read about covenant mercies, covenant faithfulness of the Surety, the covenant God Who rules overall and the promise to the covenant seed being established forever in Christ Jesus. (Psalm 89: 4, 29, 36) He is a covenant God, therefore His covenant people must be blessed. (Ephesians 1: 3) God gives us this glorious description of His people in verses 15, 16, 17, 18 of this Psalm.

1). They know “the joyful sound of the gospel.” (Psalm 89: 15) The sheep of Christ know the effectual voice of the Great Shepherd and they delight to follow Him. (John 10: 27-30) It is the sound of victory over sin through His blood. It is the sound of love, peace and pardon in and through Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 1: 6)

2). “They shall walk in the light of His countenance.” (Psalm 89: 15) Their darkened heart has been illuminated through the preaching of the gospel and the quickening of the Holy Spirit to see the beauty, glory and necessity of their great Redeemer and King. (2 Corinthians 4: 6)

3). “They shall rejoice in His name all the day.” (Psalm 89: 16) Believers have every reason to rejoice in Christ alone and have no confidence in the flesh. (Philipians 3: 3) They have been redeemed, justified and exalted in His name. (Acts 4: 12)

4). They shall be exalted in His righteousness. (Psalm 89: 16) The perfect righteousness that Jesus Christ worked out for His elect has been freely, eternally and fully imputed to them that believe. (Romans 4: 6) Christ Jesus is the Lord our Righteousness. (Jerimiah 23: 5; Philipians 3: 7-9)

5). The Lord Jesus Christ is “our glory and strength.” (Psalm 89: 17) Without Him we can do nothing and know nothing. (John 15: 5) Any spiritual strength or spiritual knowledge that we enjoy and experience must be because of His grace worked within us. (Philipians 1: 6; Philipians 4:13; Colossians 1: 27)

6). “The Lord is our defense.” (Psalm 89: 18) We are unable to defend ourselves against our spiritual enemies, there are too many of them and they are too powerful for us even to begin to fight. However, our Lord stood face to face with all our enemies and won the glorious victory for us. (Psalm 98: 1) He defeated sin by making atonement for it. (Hebrews 9: 26) He honored the law for us. (Galatians 3: 13; Colossians 2: 14-15) He defeated Satan by crushing his dominion and power. (Hebrews 2: 14) He defeated death by raising Himself from the dead. (Revelation 1: 18)

Since Christ Is!

“Lord, make me to know my end and the measure of my days that I may know how frail I am.” | Psalm 39: 4

He that hath the Son hath life!

WISDOM . . . to be without Him is folly. No matter how much worldly wisdom one may have, not to know Him and worship Him is to be a fool. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. For the ox or ass to not know nor acknowledge his Master would be fatal folly. The fool hath said NO GOD.

RIGHTEOUSNESS . . . to be without Him is to be unrighteous (totally wrong). No matter how right one may think they are, or others may think they are, they are wrong in all that they are and believe. Everything they do, think and say is wrong.

SANCTIFICATION . . . to be without Him is to be unholy. No matter how moral, how seemingly good before men. To be without Christ is to be counted unholy, unrighteous, self-righteous, unclean, filthy, unprofitable and totally unacceptable to God. Yes, God is that strict and holy.

REDEMPTION . . . to be without Him is to be sold unto sin, in captivity to the god of this world, worthless, vain and waiting to be cast away from God’s presence as rubbish.

THE WAY . . . to be without Him is to be headed the wrong way. There is a way that seemeth right to men, but it is all wrong and ends up in destruction. Christ is the Way . . . the right Way, the only Way to God.

THE TRUTH . . . Everything and everyone else is a lie. All religions, doctrines, beliefs, messiahs, and those who believe and follow them are living a lie. Half a truth is a lie and only Christ is whole Truth and nothing but the Truth.

THE LIFE . . . to be without Him is to be dead! No matter what kind of life one may think they have, it is no life at all without Christ. They are not living the good life who merely have an abundance of things without any troubles, but are as lambs being fattened for the slaughter. Should we envy the fat cow who does nothing but eat and sleep? No, nor should we look on anything but eternal things as being true blessings. He that hath the Son hath life!
