The True Grace of God

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” | 1 Peter 5: 6-7

When things spin out of our control, when well-laid plans, indeed, go awry, when carefully crafted back-up plans blow up in our faces, and all that we had expected to happen vaporizes into what actually happens, we are reminded that it is God’s will and not ours that shall be done, and we are humbled into our proper place and God is exalted to His proper place. “Our God is in the heavens, He has done whatsoever pleased Him.”

And that is good.

Standing Up Under Trials

“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” | James 1: 3-4

No trial or suffering is easy. If trials were without pain and discomfort, they would not accomplish the purpose for which they are sent. (James 1: 2-4)

But, when we look at all of earth’s sorrows, sufferings, and trials in the light of His eternal glory; when we shall be like Him, enjoy His presence, and partake in His perfect kingdom, then we will look on these present inconveniences as nothing.

They are not worthy to be compared to that glory. (1 John 3: 1-3)

Salvation Secure

“All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out” | John 6: 37

Here the Lord declares God’s electing grace and certainty of those chosen to come to Him for life.

But O, the precious promise of security found for those who come to Him… ”I will in no wise cast out.”

Everyone made willing, in the day of God’s power, to come to Him by faith for life… He will not reject!

There shall be no reason found, even in the eyes of God Himself, to cast out a needy sinner seeking mercy… and O, am I glad for that…

Jesus Christ Is The Alpha and Omega

“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” | Revelation 1: 8

What glorious, powerful and true statement this scripture proclaims.

The Lord Jesus Christ is sum and substance, the beginning and the ending of all the Holy Scriptures. The whole message of the Bible is all about the person and work of Christ from Genesis to the Revelation. (Luke 24: 27; Luke 24: 44; John 5: 39; Acts 10: 43)

The Lord Jesus Christ Himself is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of all the law of God. He is the law giver and the very one who fulfilled every demand of the law for His people. (Isaiah 42: 21; Matthew 5: 17; Romans 10: 4; Galatians 3: 13)

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of all creation. He is the one that created all things by the word of His power and sustains all things. (Colossians 1: 16) He is the one that will end this world and create a new heaven and earth wherein dwells righteousness. (John 1: 1-3; 2 Peter 3: 10-13)

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and ending of all our salvation. (Colossians 3: 11) It starts with Him from eternity past (Revelation 13: 8) and is carried out to its full completion in eternal glory. (Romans 8: 29-30; Philippians 1: 6)

What a glorious Lord we serve.

He is the Lord God Almighty who was, who is and who is to come; there is no other. (Revelation 4: 8; Revelation 4: 11-17; Isaiah 45: 5-7)

Our Lord Jesus Christ never changes in His character, purpose and glory. (Malachi 3: 6; Hebrews 13: 8)

He is the only Just God and Saviour. (Isaiah 45: 21-22; Romans 3: 24-26)

He is the very Saviour and Redeemer that we urgently need and must have and the only one the God has provided for us. (Genesis 22: 14; Acts 4: 12; Philippians 4: 19)

The Foundation Of God Stands Sure

”Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods. Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD. For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.” | Psalm 97: 7-9

“He that is of God heareth God’s word”(John 8: 47)

Sometimes we get so frustrated and depressed because men and women deny the truth which is so evident and reject the counsel of God so plainly declared in His Word. Well, I can tell you this; if a person belongs to God by eternal election, has been born of God by divine regeneration, and is truly indwelt by the Holy Spirit of truth, he will hear God’s Word and receive it with affection, reverence, and obedience!

“His commandments are not grievous” (1 John 5: 3)

It is more profitable and enjoyable to love than to hate, to forgive than to hold a grudge, to smile than to quarrel, to behave kindly than to act ugly.

The way of the transgressor is hard, not the way of the believer.

The life of faith and love is the good life.

IS THE LAW SIN?

“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.” | Romans 6: 14-15

If I measure a crooked wall with a perfect plumb line, it reveals the crookedness of the wall, but does not remove it.

If I take out a bright light on a dark night, it reveals to me all the pitfalls and hindrances, but it does not remove them.

Now the plumb line and the lamp do not create the evils which they point out. They neither create nor remove, but simply reveal.

So it is with the law.

It does not create the evil in man’s heart; neither does it remove it. But with unerring accuracy, it reveals it.

What shall we say then?

Is the law sin? God forbid!

THE WORK OF GOD

“Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” | John 6: 28-29

Notice that they asked about the “works of God.”

The depraved sinner thinks God requires many and great “works” to be done on the part of the sinner.

The taller the works, the wider the works, the more demanding the works, and the sinner will go after them with both hands.

But when told that God is not looking to the sinner’s many wonderful works, but that this is “the work of God” — to believe on him whom he hath sent – the sinner finds that to believe on Christ, and part with his own self-righteousness, is entirely beyond his ability to perform.

And The Word Was God

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” | John 1: 14

My friends, if you will carefully consider it, this is the most extraordinary fact ever declared in human language.

God became a man and “took upon him the likeness of sinful flesh.” The Ancient of Days became an infant of days. The Son of the Most-High God became a man of sorrows. He made the world; but as a man, “he had no place to lay his head.” He who made the rivers asked a woman to give him a drink of water. He who cast out devils was tempted of the devil, and the author of life died and lay in a tomb.

“The sun that hid from Him its face
By His own hand was hung in space;
The sky which darkened o’er His head
By Him above the world was spread;
The spear that shed His precious blood
Was tempered in the fires of God;
The grave in which His form was laid
Was hewn in rocks His hand had made.”

The Jailer Who Was Freed

“But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” | Acts 16: 28-30

I recently heard a charlatan preacher say, “Give the Lord a handclap.”

If I could, I would tell that man, “God is not worshipped with men’s hands, as though He needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things.” (Acts 17: 25)

God doesn’t need our hand claps.

God doesn’t have any needs. But we certainly do!

How amazing it is that God gives to all life and breath, and all things? Our Lord said, “He (God) maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5: 45) But how much more astonishing is that for the believer, “God shall supply all your need (singular and spiritual) according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Jesus Christ is the one thing “needful,” for life eternal. (Luke 10: 42)

The Lord Jesus provides Himself as the only acceptable sacrifice for sin according to the riches of God’s glory, which is also found in Christ Jesus.

Is it any wonder that Peter said, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved?” (Acts 4: 12)

Grow In Grace

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To HIM be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” | 2 Peter 3:18

The apostle’s exhortation to us as God’s people who have been called by faith to believe on Christ is, “grow in grace.” When God‘s people “grow in grace,” they grow in the doctrine of grace.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” | Ephesians 2: 8-9

They grow in the object of grace – which is Christ Himself! “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.” | 2 Timothy 1: 9

“Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” | 2 Timothy 2: 1

And when God‘s people “grow in grace,” they grow in the practice of grace.

Psalm 111: 4 says, “…the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.” And all who “grow in grace” say, “As He is, I desire to be.” True growth in grace says with David, “I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with THY likeness.” | Psalm 17: 15

The doctrine!

The object!

The practice!

“Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To HIM be glory both now and for ever. Amen. | 2 Peter 3: 17,18
