To Whom Coming

”To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” | 1 Peter 2: 4-5

To those of you who truly believe on the Lord Jesus Christ from the heart and are looking to Him for your salvation, hear the good news of the gospel again!

Don’t despair over your salvation because you constantly feel sinful (or fall into sin).

It is the work of the Holy Spirit of God to convict of sin.

It is not a one-time thing but an on-going work in all God’s children.

The Spirit’s first work in salvation is to convict of sin and point to Christ, and it is the continual work of this kind Comforter.

Like a faithful parent, He will never leave us to ourselves but is constantly reproving, rebuking, correcting, instructing, comforting, consoling, and encouraging.

It is true that we can “grieve” the Holy Spirit and “quench” Him.

This is much like when a child does not listen to nor abide by the teachings of its parent.

Every believer is a responsible child unto his heavenly Father and must heed the instructions of his Father.

But don’t ever despair of being His child when you fail or find yourself disobedient and sinful.

That is the Holy Spirit convicting you and calling the prodigal back to the Father.

Despair of yourselves (of ever having any good thing in your flesh) but keep looking to and coming to Christ.

Never despair of His Mercy, for it “endureth forever.”

No matter how sinful you are, come right back to Christ, and you will find that His mercy is “new every morning.”

That is what it means when it says, “Therefore will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious unto you… and that He might have mercy upon you”

“And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.” (Isaiah 30: 18)

Spoken like a true and loving Father to His children, there is never a time when they will come to Him for mercy and forgiveness only to have Him “cast them out.”

We are always ready to receive our wayward children, so “how much more” the infinitely and eternally loving heavenly Father.

Vanity Of Vanities

”The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?” | Ecclesiastes 1: 1-3

Believer, if you are looking for comfort, don’t look within yourself.

If you look within, all you will find is doubt, confusion, ignorance and unfaithfulness.

But to the one in need of mercy… the Spirit of God moved upon the prophet Isaiah to declare hope to such who are wretched sinners: ‘Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.’

THE LORD THINKS ON THE POOR AND NEEDY

“But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.” | Psalm 40: 17

What comfort there is for my soul to read that though I am nothing but sin — nothing but the lowest, most vile sinner – the Holy God thinks on me.

God’s thoughts toward the poor and needy sinner are thoughts of mercy and grace to deliver us from our great sin.

The word thinketh means more than just to ponder about in the mind. It is the same word often translated imputed.

God’s thoughts are the same as God’s action because God always accomplishes His will.

When God thinks on the poor and needy sinner, He purposes to impute to them everything they need.

They are needy sinners so God gives them grace to forgive.

They are poor sinners so God gives them His rich grace.

They are in the prison of sin so God sends the Deliverer to set them free.

They are too weak to endure any trial or difficulty so God sent His Son to carry them all the way home on His shoulder.

“Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” (Psalm 40: 5)

Leave Them There

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” | 1 Peter 5: 7

I know my sins, but I rejoice in His grace.

I know my weakness, but I rest in His strength.

I know my emptiness, but I am complete in Him.

“O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,” all because we do not cast our sins, our souls, on Christ and LEAVE THEM THERE!

“Be still, and know that I am God”

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” | Psalm 46: 1-11

How comforting it is to know that in moments of chaos and uncertainty, God’s sheep can be still… knowing that their Great Shepherd is God.

Though the world may crumble around them, in the promise of His covenant, and the security of His blood, they can lay down in green pastures of quietness and rest, without fear and without trouble.

If the God of Jacob is our refuge, then The Lord of hosts is with us.

In Christ our Savior, we shall not be moved.

God will help us, and that right early.

Let’s just be still, and know that He is God.

What Is Your Comfort?

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” | Psalm 23: 4

Are you happy? Yes! But I am not without times of sorrow and depression.

Like any human, I weep over loved ones, friends, sickness, death, and disappointment. But I sorrow not as those who have no hope. CHRIST IS MY HOPE! He loved me, gave Himself for me, and will make ALL THESE THINGS work together for my eternal good.

Are you at rest in your soul? Yes! but I am not free from concern and conviction over my sins and my infirmities.

I love Christ but not as I should or as I desire. I am satisfied with Him, His mercy, His grace, and His love; but I will never be totally satisfied until I wake with His likeness.

Do you have peace? Yes! but that peace with God, peace of conscience, and peace in any situation or condition is not based on my merit, feelings, nor religious duties.

CHRIST IS MY PEACE! He said, “In ME ye have peace. In the world ye shall have trouble.”

Any man or woman who claims continual, uninterrupted joy, rest, and peace in this world is either not telling the truth or has no connection with reality! True joy, rest, and peace are things we enjoy in Christ IN THE MIDST of troubles, afflictions, and infirmities.

Paul’s exhortation was “rejoice in the Lord.”

When I am conscious of my weakness, failures, and sins, I rejoice in Christ, my righteousness.

When I am concerned about food, clothing, and shelter, I rejoice in Christ, my provider.

When I am sick, Christ is my healer.

When I am grieved, Christ is my comfort.

When I am faced with death, Christ is my life!

So it is not necessary to put on a false face and deceive others. We are still human; but our peace, rest, and joy is Christ.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on Thee.”

Comfort in The Sovereign God

“But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” | Hebrews 1: 8

There is nothing more comforting to believers than God’s sovereignty over all things.

Under the most adverse circumstances and in the most severe trials, we believe that God has ordained our afflictions, that God overrules them, and that God will sanctify them for our good and his glory.

There is nothing for which we ought to contend more earnestly than the truth of God’s rule and reign over all things, all creatures, and all their actions.

The throne of God, his right to sit on that throne, and his right to do with his own what he will is what we believe and what we preach.

Let us be accused of over-emphasizing the majesty and power of the living God, but never let it be said that we underestimate his glory.
