We Have An Advocate

“And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” | 1 John 2: 1

This scripture recognizes our frail, sinful, human nature.

A believer does not love sin, does not excuse nor justify sin, but grieves over sin and desires to be without sin.

Yet he owns and confesses his sin!

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1: 15)

As SPURGEON once said, “Sin is my name, sin is my nature; and to deny it is to deny the Word, deceive myself, and call God a liar. My old nature is such that I will sin until I die, for sin even pollutes the best thing I do.”

“And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” | (1 John 2: 1)

This scripture encourages the believer to trust and hope in the mercy of God AT ALL TIMES!

It does not say, “If any man is holy, prayerful, and always faithful, he has an advocate”; but, it says, “If any man SIN, he has an advocate with the Father.”

It does not say, “If any many sins, he forfeits his right to Christ’s advocacy.”

Grace that can be forfeited because of human failure is not grace at all.

Mercy that is conditioned upon the merit of the creature is not mercy at all.

If my title to glory rests upon my works, either BEFORE OR AFTER conversion, it is a total failure.

“And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” | (1 John 2: 1)

This scripture declares that at all times, under all conditions, Jesus Christ is our righteousness, our sanctification, our advocate, and our redemption.

So, when I sin, when I consider my past or present and come creeping to my closet with a guilty conscience and an aching heart, I can rejoice in the mercy of my Father; for I have an Advocate – JESUS CHRIST THE RIGHTEOUS!

Things Above

”Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” | Colossians 3: 2

One of the old writers once said: “Do not look for that in the law which can only be found in the gospel; do not look for that in ourselves which is only to be found in Christ; do not look for that in the creature (world) which can only be found in the Creator; and do not look for that on earth which can only be found in Heaven.”

Ye Are Saved!

”But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved).” | Ephesians 2:4-5

The happiest word in the Bible is the word “Saved.”

That man or woman who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is saved. “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10: 13)

But what does it mean to be saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ?

To be saved is to be Forgiven of all sin “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” (Ephesians 1: 7)

To be saved is to have Peace with God “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” (Romans 5: 1)

To be saved is to be Free from the curse of the law “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” (Galatians 3: 13)

To be saved is to be Free from all possibility of condemnation “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans 8: 1)

To be saved is to have Eternal life “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” (1 John 5: 11)

To be saved is to have the Spirit of Christ “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Romans 8: 9)

To be saved is to Own and acknowledge Christ as Lord “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10: 9-10)

To be saved is to be In love with Jesus Christ “If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.” (1 Corinthians 16: 22)

When We See the Lord

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” | Hebrews 1: 1-3

A sight of Christ by faith brings peace to the conscience.

There is ever a war within, between the flesh and the Spirit, grace and nature, the old man and the new: the motions of sin in our members are ever warring against the law of holiness in our minds: wicked nature is like the troubled sea, which cannot rest; it is continually casting up mire and dirt: but the winds and seas of corrupt nature obey Christ.

He says, Peace, be still, and there is a great calm in the soul; for Christ is our Peace, he hath made our peace with God by his blood; he makes and keeps peace in our souls by his presence; our stubborn lusts will fight and reign if Christ be absent from our hearts; therefore, we cannot but be glad when we see the Lord.

EXCEPT YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS BE PERFECT

“For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven” | Matthew 5: 20

Beloved, it is by the doing and dying of Christ that we are saved.

Indeed, through the death of His sin atoning blood and the life of His perfect righteousness as our substitute, we are and SHALL BE SAVED. (Matthew 1: 21) It is not enough that you have your sins forgiven, in fact you must be made the perfect righteousness of God! Through Christ, through His perfect life as a man, our Heavenly Father made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5: 21)

All the Scribes, all the Popes, all the Buddhas, Mohamed and all who follow them—all need a righteousness that exceeds their own to go to heaven; they need the perfect righteousness of Christ. Reader, God give you grace to hear and believe His Son, for without His righteousness, no one comes to the Father, as our Lord plainly tells us “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14: 6)

Beloved, it is by the doing and dying of the Lord Jesus Christ that we are saved – for if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. (Romans 5: 10)

To you who believe; rest with us, for we have received double of the Lord’s hand! Not only do we have a full and complete pardon of all our sins; much more beloved, He has removed our iniquity from us and clothed us with His perfect life; indeed His perfect righteousness. AMEN! (Genesis 3: 21; Isaiah 40: 1-2; Isaiah 54: 17; 1 Corinthians 1: 30)

He First Loved Us

“We love Him, because He first loved us.” | 1 John 4: 19

Because He first loved us, there are some things that we, God’s people, love about Him: We love His sovereignty. We love the fact that He has the power, ability, and right to do as He pleases. We especially love that truth because He said, in Christ, it pleased Him to make us His people. (1 Samuel 12: 22)

We love His election. We love who He elected to save. He said He chose to save sinners, and that is what we are. (1 Timothy 1: 15) We love His predestination. It is the means that He said He would use to conform us to the image of Christ, and that is our greatest desire and need. (Romans 8: 29)

We love His grace, because it is what gave Christ to us.

We love His mercy, because it is what gave Christ to the cross of our punishment. It is what shed His blood for the payment of our sin.

We love His redemption, because it is finished. We are washed clean, made pure, and accepted in Him.

We love His righteousness, because it has covered everything that we are in our flesh with His perfection.

We love His glory, because it magnifies Him.

We love His word, because it reveals Him.

We love His message, because it points us and calls us to Him.

We love His people, because there is no greater pleasure on earth than being with those who love Him and desire to worship and praise Him together.

The glorious gospel of Christ is in the fact that He loved us, even when there was nothing about us to love. For that, we love Him.

ALL OF GRACE

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)” | Ephesians 2: 4-5

In heaven’s glory we shall forever adore and praise our great God for the wondrous mystery of his grace, by which we are saved.

Everything in the great work of salvation sets forth the splendor of the grace of the Most High God. What do we see in election, predestination, redemption, regeneration and preservation, but His grace?

The whole work of salvation displays God’s rich, free, almighty, irresistible, sovereign, saving grace in Christ.

In salvation, as well as in creation, all things are of God, all things are by God, and all things are for God. He works all our works in us, and in Him alone all praise must be forever!

ONLY ONE WAY OF SALVATION

“And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.” | Genesis 7: 15

When our God sent the flood, the whole world perished except those happy ones who were found in the ark.

Even so, there is only ONE WAY of salvation for all persons living under heaven.

There is only one name whereby they can be saved.

Would you be saved, rich man? There is no way except that way whereby the poorest pauper is also to be saved.

Would you be delivered, O man of intelligence? You must be saved in the same way as the most ignorant!

There were not two arks, only one. So there are not two saviors, only one Savior!

There was no other means of salvation except the ark; so “there is none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved”, except “Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”
