There Was A Division Because of HIM

“And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes. And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.” | Numbers 10: 31-32

There was a division because of Him” (John 7: 43; John 9: 16; John 10: 19)

In this religious world you will hardly find anyone that is “for” drunkenness, immorality or abortion. You can eliminate all the bars, houses of prostitution and even all abortions, but you have not even touched the real issue!

The real issue, as in these passages, is where Christ is being challenged or His authority questioned or His right to rule and redeem those whom He has chosen! We can agree upon all the previously mentioned areas and still not come close to telling sinners the “Truth” about who God is, how He is satisfied and how vile rebels can be made just with the Holy God.

If you look at each of these passages those religious people were divided regarding “HIM.” They would rather hear about the moral issues of the day or the economy of the hour or even the “moral majority” platform and what it is doing for our country.

Paul said I am determined not to know anything among you except Christ and Him crucified… and the moment we pursue any other issue we have fundamentally turned our back on The Gospel.

No sinner was ever saved by being in agreement with or not being in agreement with the world on the issues of the day. I’m not saying these causes are not important. I am saying that these are never THE ISSUE and we are simply to confess Christ in this Christ-less generation and confessing Christ is telling people the good news of the redemption in and by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Grace, Grace, and More Grace

“And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.” | Acts 8: 3-35

Absolutely no one will cry out for God’s mercy until the Holy Spirit makes them see that they are spiritually bankrupt! Then, and only then, are they ready to receive Jesus Christ as their only hope; as their Savior; as their Sovereign Lord; AS THEIR ALL IN ALL!

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not ‘God has done His part, now the rest is up to you.’ The Gospel is not what the sinner can do for God, but what Jesus Christ has done for the sinner. “Christ… hath suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” (1 Peter 3: 18) When Jesus Christ died, He, by Himself, purged our sins; (Hebrews 1: 3) He reconciled us to God. (Romans 5: 10) Our Savior was delivered for our offences and was raised again for our justification.” (Romans 4: 25) Christ suffered and died for our sins THAT HE MIGHT BRING US TO GOD!

The risen, exalted Christ of God is not trying to find His lost sheep. In the Person of God, the Holy Spirit, our sovereign Lord will seek and save all those He suffered and bled and died for. He MUST bring them to Himself. They MUST hear His voice. He said so. (John 10: 16) God the Father has put all things under the feet of His glorified Son and has given Him power over all flesh. By the quickening power of our risen Savior, He gives eternal life to as many as His Father gave Him. (John 17: 2) He gives us a new heart to come to Him by faith, a heart that rejoices in His glorious Gospel.

Sinners have not come to God if they have not bowed down to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. They have not come to God if they’re trusting in something they have done to try and merit God’s grace, including their socalled free will. We come to God when we come to the Christ of Holy Scripture; when we believe that He suffered for our sins that He might bring us to God; when we believe that being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Sinners come to God when we, by His gift of true saving faith, bow down to the risen, glorified Son of God, confessing Him as our Sovereign Lord and Saviour. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. But absolutely no one will call upon the name of Jesus Christ until they hear and believe the true Gospel of God‘s sovereign, amazing grace.

Brethren, God the Holy Spirit is the one who sends His preachers to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in those areas where His lost sheep are. (Romans 10: 13-15) Under the preaching of the Christ of Holy Scripture, the sovereign power of the risen, glorified Son of God is manifested for the glory of God the Father when He delivers His chosen, redeemed children from the prison-house of unbelief, bringing them into a living union with Himself.

Do You Know The Lord?

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.” | Titus 3: 5

I recently had someone ask me if I trusted in works. My first reaction was to say God forbid!

But I answered this way: Yes, I trust in works; but they are not my works.

I trust in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I trust in him and what he did for sinners like me. He did for me what I couldn’t do for myself. He worked out a perfect righteousness for me.

I trust Him and his work alone for all my salvation.

His works are now my works.

Look And Live!

“Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.” | Psalm 86: 3-5

Throughout the Bible that act of faith by which we receive eternal life is spoken of as a look.

Like those children of Israel who were bitten by the fiery serpents had to look to the brazen serpent for life, we must look to Christ crucified for life eternal.

Salvation begins in a look. “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45: 22) We must look away from ourselves to Christ for our entire salvation.

Salvation is maintained by a look. “Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down on the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12: 2)

Salvation will end in a look. “And they shall see his face.” (Revelation 22: 4)

If you hope to see the Savior’s face with joy in glory, you must look to him now.

Look, I say, look to Christ! Look and live!

A Wonderful Master

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” | 1 Corinthians 1: 30

Christians serve a wonderful Master.

They serve Him who is… all ear to hear them, all hand to uphold them, all power to
protect them, all wisdom to direct them, all goodness to relieve them, all mercy to pardon them.

In Him I Rejoice!

“Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. | Matthew 2: 2

Although I am a sinner, yet I despair not; for Christ, who is my Redeemer and my righteousness, liveth.

In Him I have no sin, no fear, no sting of conscience, and no fear of judgment; (Galations 2: 20) for in Him there is no condemnation. (Romans 8: 1)

I am indeed a sinner as touching this present life; but I have a righteousness of God which is above this life, who is Christ my Lord.

In Him I rejoice!

DIVINE PARADOXES

“And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,” | Ephesians 6: 19

The wiser we get, the greater fools we become (I Corinthians 3: 18)

The stronger we grow, the weaker we are (II Corinthians 12: 9-10)

The more we possess, the less we have (II Corinthians 6: 10)

The more completely bankrupt, the more freely forgiven (Luke 7: 42)

The more utterly lost, the more perfectly saved (Luke 19: 10)

And the more like a child, the greater in the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18: 4)

Unbelief and Its Consequences

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.” | Romans 1: 20-23

The carnal heart will always give itself the honor, glory, and praise… thinking that it is the source of accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as man’s personal Savior.

It will foolishly comfort itself in self-righteous pride believing that soon heaven shall be its final home.

But a regenerated sinner will say with a broken but thankful heart, “Salvation is of the Lord and therefore I am what I am by the grace of God.”

Sovereign Grace

“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? | Acts 16: 25-30

Every sermon sent by God Almighty will always find its focus in the Person of the Lord Jesus.

He is the Alpha and Omega of life. He is the answer to all eternal questions and the purpose of all things. Comfort in all trials is found by hearing the message of Christ which proclaims His glory, work, and honor. We will never be found to honor Him more than to hear and believe His Gospel which, beginning with Moses and throughout all the prophets and in all the scriptures, declare those things that are concerning Him.

ABOUNDING GRACE

“But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:” | Romans 5: 20

Grace taught my soul to pray – And made my eyes o’erflow; His grace has kept me to this day – And will not let me go.

Grace Alone – I hear many folks talk about their part in salvation. I can’t relate to that. My experience of grace was God doing everything and me doing nothing. Sin abounded in me and I could not free myself from its deadly grip. The only explanation as to why this sinner is saved is because God’s grace in Christ Jesus abounded to me. Grace did much more than offer to save me, grace abounded in saving me. I was dead – Christ gave me life. I was lost – Christ found me. I was blind – Christ gave me eyes of faith to behold him.

Grace Always – I know that only the same abounding, reigning grace will bring me to glory. Of all the many unimaginable joys of heaven, to love Christ with an unsinning heart must surely be a choice one. Then I shall have an abounding heart of gratitude to thank Jesus Christ for his abounding grace to me.

I’m looking forward to that!
