The Evidence Of Things Not Seen

”The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.” | John 4: 49-50

Believers on the one hand are nothing but sin, and on the other hand, they have no sin.

This is one of the great mysteries of the Gospel that keeps God’s people humble, yet hopeful.

It causes them to cast all their care on the One that cares for them.

It leads them to have no confidence in the flesh, yet to come boldly before the Throne of grace.

It is the reason they can mourn and rejoice at the same time.

It shows them their inability to satisfy any part of God’s law, and it frees them from the condemnation of the law.

It causes them to bow in humble worship as mercy beggars, yet they hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

They are nothing yet have everything.

They are hell-deserving, yet heaven bound.

They are in abject poverty, and they are infinitely and eternally rich.

To the natural man, these things are a contradiction.

To the child of God… they are his life.

A Confident God And A Comforted People

”But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.” | Isaiah 43: 1

Salvation is of God’s grace, not of your merit; it is of God’s goodness, not of your holiness; you have nothing to do but to rest on what Christ has done.

The Difference In: No Faith; Weak Faith; And Strong Faith.

“And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.” | Luke 17: 5

When a person has no faith at all, he looks to his own flesh for all of his confidence before God.

He believes that God will be satisfied with him by what he sees in himself – his actions, his words, and his thoughts.

When a person has weak faith, he looks to himself for a little bit of confidence before God.

He knows that he will never be able to satisfy God outside of the blood of Christ, but something in him still thinks that he must produce good actions, good words, and good thoughts along with Christ’s blood before God will accept him.

When a person is strong in faith, he does not look to himself at all.

He knows that he can have absolutely no confidence in his flesh. When it comes to God accepting him, all of his hope is in Christ’s actions, Christ’s words, and Christ’s thoughts.

He firmly believes that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief!” And “He is made unto (me) wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.”

Christ is all I need!

In summary…

No faith – has all confidence in the flesh.

Weak faith – has a little confidence in the flesh.

Strong faith – has NO confidence in the flesh at all!

True Healing For The Sick

“And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.” | Matthew 9: 20-22

It is grace at the beginning, grace at the end.

So that when you and I come to die upon our deathbeds, the one thing that should comfort and help and strengthen us is the thing that helped us at the beginning!

Not what we have been, not what we have done, but the GRACE of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Christian life starts with grace, it must continue with grace, and it ends with grace!

Six Things Believers Will Do

“O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.” | Psalm 79: 8-9

1). Believers so trust Christ as to renounce every other ground of confidence. (Philippians 3: 7-9)

2). Believers glory only in the righteousness of Christ and count their own to be filthy rags. (Isaiah 64: 6)

3). Believers rejoice in the cross of substitution, glorying in nothing else. (Galatians 6: 14)

4).Believers love the Lord Jesus supremely and will so order their lives as to avoid commitments and associations which hinder fellowship with Him. (Luke 14: 26-27)

5). Believers will continue in the faith, for true believers never quit. (1 John 2:19)

6). Believers obey the Lord’s commandments, not in order to gain His favor but because they love Him and dwell in His favor. (2 Corinthians 5: 14-15)

No Confidence In The Flesh

No true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ has any confidence in his flesh.

He knows that he is a fallen creature of the dust with no ability to reconcile himself back to God.

He trusts the Lord Jesus totally for salvation, the One who alone did bear the griefs and carry the sorrows of His people at Calvary. And while that regenerated sinner trusts Christ alone for salvation, he rejoices in the beautiful words, “And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely,” knowing that in the grand scope of God’s mercy, one even such as himself has hope.
