The Word Of God

”The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.” | Jeremiah 23: 28

It is certain that the Lord is speaking of false prophets who do not know God’s word nor use it, but rather tell their dreams and entertain with miracles, signs, and wonders.

But I am afraid this word also has some reference to believers as well, particularly preachers.

God’s word is His power.

His word is what He uses to call, break, save, create, sustain, keep, feed, mold, and shape His people.

One word of God is of infinite power and value.

The Holy Spirit can take one word and bring about what a multitude of ours cannot.

One word, such as LOOK!

One line, such as THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH, is sufficient, by the power of the Spirit, to bring a dead sinner to life.

It is not our comments upon God’s word, but God’s actual word that He uses.

PREACHING IS VITAL, whereby the sense of the word is given; but in reality IT IS NOT THE PREACHING THAT SAVES, BUT THE WORD!

When we witness to others, it is good to tell what we have learned; but when all is said and done, nothing will impress that person except the word of God applied by His Spirit.

This is why a word in season means a portion of God’s word.

Perhaps we would do well to say less and quote more from God’s word.

Even better, it would be good to just leave someone with a portion from, God’s word and say, “Go and learn what that means.”

Our Portion And Inheritance

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” | 1 Timothy 1: 15

One who is born of God has the Lord as his portion and inheritance.

He is thankful for who he is and what he has; for in Christ he has “all things” that are worth having.

Having food and clothing and believing friends, he is content.

He brought nothing into this world and will carry nothing out.

Earthly possessions, honors, and property have no value after death; but to be forgiven of sin and alive in Christ is the highest prize and glory.

As soon as a person really learns, believes, and embraces the grace of Christ, like Moses, “he esteems even the reproach of Christ greater than the riches of this world.”

“Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.” (Hebrews 11: 26)

But they that seek after riches and worldly honor fall into many temptations, which drown men in destruction and misery.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6: 6-10)

This craving for the world’s wealth and approval has caused many to depart from the faith and pierce themselves through with many sorrows.

Today Is The Day Of Salvation

”(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” | 2 Corinthians 6: 2

It is one thing to “wait on the Lord” in matters of providence, trial, and decisions regarding our plans and purposes.

”Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” (Psalm 27: 14)

But the command to repent and believe on Christ is in the imperative!

It is “NOW is the accepted time, TODAY is the day of salvation.”

Someone may say, “But I want to be sure.”

You can be sure that you are a guilty sinner, that you have no ability to justify yourself before God, that God sent His Son to save, that He is a sufficient Savior, and that not to believe this gospel is to make God a liar and presume on His patience!

Walk in THE LIGHT YOU HAVE, look to Christ now and confess what faith you have depending on Him to give you more faith.

Vanity Of Vanities

”The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?” | Ecclesiastes 1: 1-3

Believer, if you are looking for comfort, don’t look within yourself.

If you look within, all you will find is doubt, confusion, ignorance and unfaithfulness.

But to the one in need of mercy… the Spirit of God moved upon the prophet Isaiah to declare hope to such who are wretched sinners: ‘Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.’

For All His Benefits To Me

”I said in my haste, All men are liars. What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” | Psalm 116: 11-15

The work which God gives into the hands of his pastors is God’s work.

The work he gives into the hands of his witnesses is God’s work.

The Sovereign of heaven and earth will soon discover this to us through enemies which he has foreordained that we face.

We will face some who appear so full of light that if it were possible they would deceive even the elect of God.

Yet God will expose them to be enemies of the righteousness of God and he will conquer them before us.

There will be times when some within will depart from us and break our hearts.

But God will use those things to reveal to us that there is absolutely no sufficiency in us for this work.

He is not depending upon the strength of men; he teaches us not to depend upon men, not even those who profess to trust him.

We love our brethren, we receive one another without doubting, but we are to look only to Christ.

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12: 9)

Our strength is the grace of our God alone.

Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else

”God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” | Hebrews 1: 1-3

When I look to Christ alone, I have assurance.

When I look for faith, or evidence of faith, I have no assurance.

Faith is only in operation as it looks to Christ alone.

If I look to a past experience or a time when I first believed, I am looking to an event rather than Christ alone.

If I am assuring myself that tomorrow I will believe that is nothing more than an act of presumption.

Look to Christ alone now!

Nothing more, nothing less, and nothing else.

Things Above

”Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” | Colossians 3: 2

One of the old writers once said: “Do not look for that in the law which can only be found in the gospel; do not look for that in ourselves which is only to be found in Christ; do not look for that in the creature (world) which can only be found in the Creator; and do not look for that on earth which can only be found in Heaven.”

Look To Christ

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”John 1: 32-34

The cry of every gospel preacher is look to Christ.

John the Baptist cried, “Behold the Lamb of God” (John 1: 36)

My friend, my cry to you is look to Christ for everything.

Don’t look for salvation in your obedience to the law.

Look to Christ who kept the law for His people.

Don’t look for salvation in your religious ceremonies.

Look to Christ who is “the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” (Romans 10: 4)

Look for atonement in Christ our Passover.

Look for rest from all of your works in Christ our Sabbath.

Don’t look for salvation in your doctrine.

Believer, look to Christ for your comfort, peace, and assurance.

LOOK AND LIVE and never take your focus and attention off of Christ who is our all and in all.

The Same Old New Story

”And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed: Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.” | Acts 28: 8-10

When I look to Christ alone, I have assurance.

When I look for faith, or evidence of faith, I have no assurance.

Faith is only in operation as it looks to Christ alone.

If I look to a past experience or a time when I first believed, I am looking to an event rather than Christ alone.
