Our Steps Are Ordered Of The Lord

”For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” | Romans 11: 36

What will happen in the days to come?

Everything the Lord has wisely decreed in His eternal purpose for us to experience. ”In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:” (Ephesians 1: 11)

”These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16: 33)

The Lord gave David these words in Psalm 37:23; “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”

”And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.” (Joshua 23: 14)

Our Lord Jesus Christ told His disciples in their day; “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”.

”According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1: 3-4)

The apostle Paul declares that every believer has won the victory of salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ forever; “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”.

”But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15: 57)

We can be assured by the word of our blessed God and Saviour; that every promise of God will be fulfilled; that our gracious Lord will provide for our every need; that He will never leave us or forsake us.

”But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 19)

As the old writers used to express it; “The Lord will give us all grace now and glory forever. ”My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.” (Psalm 31: 15)

”Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” (Hebrews 13: 5-6)

We don’t know what the future holds but we know who holds the future.

I Come In Weakness

”And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” | 1 Corinthians 2: 1-5

If we knew how needy we are, we would not neglect to pray.

If we knew how vile we are, we would not fail to thank Him for His mercy.

If we knew how glorious He is, we would not cease to praise Him.

If we knew how soon we will be with Him, we would not be discouraged.

I Am A Worm

“But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.” | Psalm 22: 6

This verse is a miracle in language.

How could the Lord of glory be brought to such abasement as to be not only lower than the angels, but even lower than men? What a contrast between “I AM” and “I am a worm”!

Yet such a double nature was found in the person of our Lord Jesus when bleeding on the tree. He felt himself to be comparable to a helpless, powerless, downtrodden worm, passive while crushed, and unnoticed and despised by those who trod upon him.

He selects the weakest of creatures, which is all flesh; and becomes, when trodden upon, writhing & quivering flesh, utterly devoid of any might except strength to suffer. This was a true likeness of himself when his body and soul had become a mass of misery-the very essence of agony-in the dying pangs of crucifixion.

Man by nature is but a worm; but our Lord puts himself even beneath man, on account of the scorn which was heaped upon him and the weakness which he felt, and therefore he adds, “and no man.” The privileges and blessings which belonged to the fathers he could not obtain while deserted by God, and common acts of humanity were not allowed him, for he was rejected of men; he was outlawed from the society of earth, and shut out from the smile of heaven.

How utterly did the Saviour empty himself of all glory, and become of no reputation for our sakes! “A reproach of men” their common butt and jest; a byword and a proverb unto them: the sport of the rabble, and the scorn of the rulers. Oh the caustic power of reproach, to those who endure it with patience, yet smart under it most painfully!

“And despised: of thee people.” The very people who would once have crowned him then contemned him, and they who were benefited by his cures sneered at him in his woes. Sin is worthy of all reproach and contempt, and for this reason Jesus, the Sin bearer, was given up to be thus unworthily and shamefully entreated.

Salvation By Grace Alone

“But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.” | Acts 15: 11

When that first Bible Conference at Jerusalem was assembled and the vital question about salvation was discussed, Peter stood up and declared that salvation is by the grace of God alone, not by the deeds of the law. (Galatians 2: 21; 1 Peter 5: 10) There are at least four things we know the scriptures plainly declare about the grace of God.

1). Grace is eternal. Grace was planned and purposed in Christ before it was imparted and applied to our heart. (2 Timothy 1: 9; Hebrews 13: 20; Revelation 13: 8)

2). Grace is free. No man ever purchased the grace of God. He bought us with His own blood and justified us with His grace alone. (Acts 20: 28; 1 Peter 1: 18; Romans 3: 24)

3). Grace is sovereign. God gives grace to whom He pleases. Grace is the free and sovereign favor of God freely given to undeserving, ill-deserving and hell-deserving sinners. (Romans 5: 19-21; Romans 9: 12-16)

4). Grace is always because of and in Christ. We only believe through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 1: 16-17; Acts 18: 27; Ephesians 1: 3-7; 2 Corinthians 8: 9)

Thank God for His grace. Every believer can say with Paul, “I am what I am by His grace.”

The Lord Thinks On The Poor And Needy

“But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.” | Psalm 40: 17

What comfort there is for my soul to read that though I am nothing but sin… nothing but the lowest, most vile sinner, the Holy God thinks on me. God’s thoughts toward the poor and needy sinner are thoughts of mercy and grace to deliver us from our great sin.

The word thinketh means more than just to ponder about in the mind. It is the same word often translated imputed. God’s thoughts are the same as God’s action because God always accomplishes His will. When God thinks on the poor and needy sinner, He purposes to impute to them everything they need.

They are needy sinners so God gives them grace to forgive.

They are poor sinners so God gives them His rich grace.

They are in the prison of sin so God sends the Deliverer to set them free.

They are too weak to endure any trial or difficulty so God sent His Son to carry them all the way home on His shoulder.

“Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” (Psalm 40: 5)
