Good News For The No Good

“I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.” |

The man who trusts so much as a single hair’s breadth to his works has missed Christ!!!

We cannot trust partly to our works and partly to Christ.

We must feel that we are utterly stripped of everything.

I love to find those who have nothing good about them.

Some preachers like to find something good in men before they preach to them, but I like to find men who know there is nothing good in them and then preach God’s sovereign mercy to them.

If you were in the hospital and wanted the attention of the physician, what would you do?

Would you write over your bed or tell your doctor you were in pretty good condition?

Actually, you would be inclined to appear worse than you really are.

You certainly cannot exaggerate your low and sinful condition, for we are all “chief of sinners.”

Out Of The Mouth Of Babes

”From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment” | Isaiah 1: 6

One of our small children told me recently, “We are sin. That is the bad news. The good news is Christ.”

I thought how simple the gospel really is.

We are sin. How sinful are we?

Completely.

It’s not just that we commit sin but we ARE sin.

Sin is what we do and sin is what we love because sin is what we ARE.

How then is Christ the good news? Christ alone is everything a sinner needs. Christ saves sinners.

How completely does Christ save?

Christ saves the chief of sinners; “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1: 15)

Christ saves to the uttermost; “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7: 25)

Christ saves those who do not deserve it by His grace; “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” (Ephesians 2: 8)

Christ sovereignly saves whom He will and no one can stop His will. “For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” (Romans 9: 15-16)

Christ saves fully, eternally, and completely.

What good news for sinners!

GOOD NEWS FOR PILGRIMS!

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” | John 14: 1-3

Here is good news for weary, heavy-hearted pilgrims from our homeland in Heaven.

Do you have heartaches and troubles too numerous to count?

It will do you good to receive some good news from home.

The Lord our God is still on His throne. Our Savior is still in Heaven, preparing a place for you, representing you, interceding for you.

There are many in Heaven just like you and me already.

There is . . .
a fallen David there,
a doubting Thomas there,
an angry Moses there,
a feeble Philip there,
an impetuous Peter there,
and a righteous Lot there.

All are there by grace alone, through the merits of Christ’s blood and righteousness.

And, soon, the Lord Jesus Christ will come again to take you there!
