We Will Be Glad And Rejoice In Thee

”Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.” | Song of Solomon 1: 4

Another year is dawning.

We who are the children of the living God will not open the gates of the New Year in sorrow and mourning. We will sing unto our God. With joy in our hearts and gladness in our souls, we will make known his lovingkindness, his faithfulness, and his grace. “We will be glad and rejoice in thee!” The eternal God is our Father. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter. The blessed Son is our Savior. Why should we not rejoice? We will rejoice. We are determined. Our God must have the crown of our hearts’ praise. We will be glad because of all that he has done. And we will rejoice because he is who he is.

We will rejoice because our God is God. “Our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” (Psalm 115: 3) God our Father rules this world. He is the inexpressibly majestic sovereign of the universe. He rules absolutely, and he rules absolutely well. All that he does, or allows to be done, is positively good for his people. He does all things for the salvation, the spiritual good, and the eternal felicity of his own elect. And he does all things for his own eternal praise and glory. We want no more than this. “We will be glad and rejoice in thee!”

We will be glad because of all that God has done for us in Christ. “Count your many blessings, name them one by one; and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!” He chose us as the peculiar objects of his grace in eternal, electing love. He redeemed us by the blood of his own dear Son. He has forgiven us of all our sin and justified us by his grace. He preserved us, even in our rebellion, unto the day of his grace. He regenerated us, called us, and gave us faith in Christ.

God has saved us by his matchless grace.

Oh yes, “We will be glad and rejoice in thee!”

More To Follow!

”But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. And he arose, and departed to his house.” | Matthew 9: 6-7

Roland Hill was an English preacher of yesteryear who loved to bring the love of God to the poor, and the struggling of London.

On one occasion he was given a rather large sum of money to help support the pastor of a church in a low-income area. Thinking that the amount was too much to send in one lump sum he decided to send it in stages. Each week Roland Hill sent a portion of the gift with a note that simply said, “More to follow!”

Within a few days the pastor received another envelope containing the same amount of money with the same message, “More to follow.” Then there came a third, and then a fourth. In fact they continued with regularity, always accompanied by those comforting and cheering words, until the entire sum had been exhausted.

When God forgives our sins, there is more forgiveness to follow.

He justifies us in the righteousness of Christ, but there is more to follow.

He adopts us into His family, but there is more to follow.

He prepares us for heaven, but there is more to follow.

He gives us grace, but there is more to follow.

He helps us in old age, but there is still more to follow.

Even when we arrive in the world to come, there will still be more to follow.

~ Charles Spurgeon

Forbearing And Forgiving

”Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” | Colossians 3: 13

As long as we are in this flesh, we will have misunderstandings, unpleasantnesses, and even injustices (at least we feel that our rights have been compromised and others have been wrong in what they have said or done.)

What is to be our attitude? What are we to do?

It is ours to “forbear and forgive.”

To forbear is to control our emotions, to put down wrath, and even to surrender our rights for the time being in patient hope that the Lord will reveal and accomplish His will and purpose in the matter! It is to “wait on the Lord.”

To forbear is to refrain from doing or saying anything! To forgive is actually to put the problem or misunderstanding out of mind and to restore a state of 1ove and fellowship, “even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye” (Colossians 3: 13)

This is the way our Lord treats us! He forbears!

He is patient, longsuffering, and kind, and He forgives our sins (all of them) and remembers them no more!

“Teach me, Lord, on earth to show. By my love, how much I owe.”
