The Fellowship Of Believers

”And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” | Acts 2: 40-47

I know that most of you are faithful to the Sunday worship services, and you tarry after services to visit and talk with one another.

But what about the other six days of the week?

Do you have much fellowship with those whose conversation is seasoned with grace and who are a good influence on you and your children?

The people of the world (religious world and social world) are not an influence for good or spiritual growth. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” (1 Corinthians 15: 33)

But our brethren comfort us, encourage us, instruct us, and regular fellowship with them and their families will be a great blessing to you and your children.

Do not spend your social and family time with these who do not know God (86% of the week) and expect to correct the effect with a couple of hours on Sunday.

As much time as you can devote to good fellowship in Christ with other believers will reap great blessings to you and your family.

Let Your Love Be Sincere

”Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;” | Romans 12: 9-10

Believers will love all people.

There is no room in a regenerate heart for hate, grudges, and bigotry.

There is a special love for those who are called brethren. ”As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6: 10)

In making others happy, we find happiness; in giving, we receive; in promoting another’s welfare and honor we are honored!

A man’s character is not always revealed in what others say about Him, but in what he privately says about others.

Burning Hearts

“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” | Acts 2: 42

If we have true fellowship with one another, it is because we worship the true and living God together. “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” (1 John 1: 3)

If we truly break bread together, it is because we are made of the same bread and body. “For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.” (1 Corinthians 10: 17)

If we truly pray together, it is because Christ has made us of one accord. “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.” (Acts 1: 14)

It is a great privilege for brethren to worship together, talk to one another about our Master, observe the Lord’s Table together, eat together, and pray together.

May we always be reminded of the cause of all our “spiritual blessings in heavenly places, IN CHRIST.”

True Unity

”Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” | Ephesians 4: 3

Child of God, endeavor to keep the unit of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133: 1)

Whatever differences we may have in the flesh, (Race, Culture, Language, Politics, Personalities) they are not only insignificant but irrelevant to our unity in Christ Jesus.

Our Lord prayed, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” (John 17: 21)

What a powerful testimony it is to the unbeliever to see that we all believe the same thing concerning the Lord Jesus and His successful work of redeeming His people, and that our conviction concerning the gospel causes us to overlook all other differences.

Loving One Another

“Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.” | 1 John 4: 11

How did God love us?

He loved us while we were yet sinners.

He reconciled us while we were yet sinners.

He loved us unconditionally.

“Herein is love, NOT that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

God’s love for us was eternal, unchangeable, and effectual.

What is it then that keeps me from loving others?

Can it be that such an object of undeserving grace and mercy now requires a worthiness in others?

Can it be that such a one who was saved by sovereign mercy, alone, now refuses to show mercy?

God forbid!

Let us first contemplate his love for us and we will have no problem loving others.

Symptoms Of A Fatal Disease

“LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah. Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them. And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.” | Psalm 39: 4-7

MOST fatal diseases do not show up immediately, nor do they kill someone overnight.

They generally begin little unsuspicious symptoms, such as a sniffle, a sore, a small lump or a brief pain. Most times the person ignores these little symptoms until they become much worse and even others notice something wrong with them. So it is most times with the fatal disease called Apostasy.

Apostasy is a fancy word for missing Christ, departing from the faith, leaving the gospel and leaving the church.

It most times begins with little symptoms, such as… no real desire to attend the worship services, (but only do so to maintain appearances) no real fellowship with believers, (quick to get in and out of services) avoidable absences from the worship service, little distractions at home, little temptations to work late, ‘little sins’ indulged, (even enjoyed) the pull and call of the world, which, at one time was resisted, now quickly and easily answered.

The symptoms are many and varied, and if ignored, they eventually break out into glaring problems. The person begins to be unsociable with God’s people, unreachable, not easily entreated. They begin to resent and avoid the calls and concerns of their (supposed) brethren. They begin to find fault with their ‘brethren’ and especially the preacher. Until finally they see no need to gather with ‘those people’ anymore, or listen to ‘that fellow’ anymore.

Little do apostates realize, but THEY HAVE MISSED CHRIST, then they leave; ‘they went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt would have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be manifest (revealed, exposed to all) that they are not all of us.’

Fact is, one who leaves never had life to begin with, never was born from above, never was quickened but was and is dead in trespasses and sins.

It is not too late if these words convict one’s conscience and prick one’s heart.

If the symptoms are recognized early it does not have to be fatal …hurtful and injurious, yes, but not fatal! If you recognize any of these symptoms in yourself and are concerned, perhaps the Great Physician is dealing with you. The Lord will heal the backslidden in heart and readily receives every prodigal.

If left to our sinful selves we all would fall away.

It can happen to anyone.

Many have left and many more will do so, according to scripture.

But, by the grace of God, all who call on Him, come to Him, no matter how sinful, how fallen (or how many times), how wandering, how downcast and dirty, He mercifully receives and quickly and freely forgives.

Heaven’s Greatest Attraction

”For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:” | Philippians 1: 23

The great attraction of heaven is the Lord Jesus Christ!

He Himself is the object chiefly enjoyed.

To be with Jesus, and like Jesus, and to behold His glory constitute the heaven which true believers desire!

They long to behold that blessed face which was buffeted for them!

Their eternal anthem is, “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.” Amen.

Sympyoms Of A Fatal Disease

“He Is All Our Righteousness”

“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” | Psalm 95: 6

There is a song that we love to sing that says: “We have come into this house, and gathered in His Name to worship Him”!

That is the ONE and ONLY reason we are here!

We have gathered together in this place to Worship, and Honor, and Praise, and Glorify One Man!…

The God-Man!

The High King of heaven!

Our maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend: The Lord Jesus Christ!

He is all our righteousness“!

The only thing that makes us acceptable to God, and worthy to stand in His presence, is the Blood that Christ shed to put away our sin. It is NOT by any works that we have done. All of our works are “filthy rags” in God’s sight! All of our hope is in the fact that He “By Himself purged our sins“! Because of that, “we stand in Him complete“!

So, let’s lift up holy faith, and magnify His Name, and worship Him“!

If the Lord God has given us the gift of faith to see that Christ Is All!

If He has shown us our need for mercy, and given us a heart to cry out to Him for it… Then “Let’s Magnify His Name“!

That faith is the evidence of His work of grace! So even with a thankful and reverent heart, “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.”

Precious Faith

”And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.” | Acts 18: 5

That precious, saving faith which unites the sinner to Christ also unites the sinner to all those who belong to Christ.

To be one with Him is to be one with them.

Loving and serving Him has something to do with loving and serving them; and loving and serving them has something to do with loving and serving Him.

Saving faith says that there is one Savior.

Saving faith also says that there is one household, one family, one body, one vine tree, etc.

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15: 5)
