Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” | John 14: 1

The Master had just finished telling His disciples that some very troubling things were soon coming to pass.

  • He told them that one of them would betray Him.
  • He told them that He was going away and they could not come with Him.
  • He told Peter that he would deny the Lord three times that very night.
  • I would imagine the disciples were shocked and dismayed.
  • They probably felt defeated just like we often do.

Then the Lord gave us these comforting words. “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”

O what comfort faith in Christ gives to the hearts of His elect.

When you are shocked at the pain and suffering you endure, let not your heart be troubled or uncertain, because you believe in Christ who has sacrificed Himself for your soul.

Your body will suffer but your soul will never suffer if Christ died for you.

When you are disappointed in your failure, let not your heart be troubled, because you believe in Christ the Savior.

Thankfully, your salvation and acceptance with God depends on who Christ is and what Christ has accomplished, not who you are or what you have done or what you have failed to do.

When you don’t understand what is happening, let not your heart be troubled or uncertain.

Our God rules every event so that every event works together to bring to pass the salvation of His people.

Our God is working even this together to accomplish His eternal will.

Those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ never have reason for real despair because everything that God is doing is best for me, best for His people and best for His Kingdom.

Crucified With Christ

“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.” | 1 Timothy 1: 1-2

“What is hope? Hope is expectation with a reasonable basis.

What the world calls hope is an empty wish.

It’s like a child holding a present on their birthday hoping to find what they want.

But, hope in the scriptures is defined as a person: Christ in you the hope of glory.

This hope comes through a Godly persuasion, “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (2 Timothy 1: 12)

Also, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8: 38-39)

The believer’s hope is not I hope, I hope, I hope.

The believer’s hope is hope founded upon the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our expectations fully depend on His appointments, His coming as the God man, His obedience, His suffering, His death, His resurrection, and His present reign in glory.

“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5: 12)

Paul said he was “an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope

May the Lord be pleased to make Him our hope for the glory of His own name.

Things Above

”Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” | Colossians 3: 2

One of the old writers once said: “Do not look for that in the law which can only be found in the gospel; do not look for that in ourselves which is only to be found in Christ; do not look for that in the creature (world) which can only be found in the Creator; and do not look for that on earth which can only be found in Heaven.”

Believe On The Lord Jesus Christ

“Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.” | 1 John 5: 1

All who are born of God believe that Jesus is the Christ.

The title THE CHRIST signifies anointed and includes all the offices of the Son of God.

To believe Him to be THE CHRIST is to believe Him to be that Prophet which Moses said should come, who has declared the whole mind and will of the Father.

It is to believe He is that Priest which should arise after the order of Melchizedek and make full atonement for sin and effectual intercession for transgressors.

It is to believe He is King of kings and Lord of lords, whom God hath set over all things from all ages and for all time.

This faith in Christ is not a mere assent to the fact nor merely acknowledging it as the demons have done. “And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.” (Luke 4: 41)

It is to believe with the heart. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10: 9-10)

It is to bow the knee in repentance and to look to Christ, trust in Him, receive Him as our righteousness, to rest in His blood for cleansing, and to lay hold of Him as our Savior, Redeemer, and Mediator. “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” (1 Timothy 2: 5)

Such faith is far above and beyond the reach of the human mind.

It is the gift of God.

It is the result of regeneration and a new birth, for we must be drawn to Christ and taught of God. “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” (John 6: 44-45)

A Wonderful Master

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” | 1 Corinithians 1: 30

Christians serve a wonderful Master.

They serve Him who is… all ear to hear them, all hand to uphold them, all power to protect them, all wisdom to direct them, all goodness to relieve them, all mercy to pardon them.

I Trust Him!

“Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.” | 1 Thessalonians 1: 4-5

It is not my hold of Christ that saves, but His hold of me.

It is not my promise to Him which keeps me, but His promise to me.

It is not my works which make me righteous before God, but His perfect life and obedience.

My best is but filthy rags. I trust Him on the strength and authority of His Word.

He died for those who believe; Lord, I believe!

He promised to save all who trust Him!

He said, “All that my Father giveth me shall come to me and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

I came to Him, I am coming to Him, and by God’s grace, I shall continue to come.

Rejoice In The Lord

“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” | Philippians 4: 4

David said: “Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.” (Psalm 97: 12)

“And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.” (1 Samuel 2: 1)

Isaiah wrote: “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.” (Isaiah 61: 10)

We may not be able to rejoice in the world.

We may not be able to rejoice in anything that we see in ourselves.

But we can always “rejoice IN THE LORD!”

The Only Thing That Matters

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.” | Philippians 3: 10-11

This is the only thing that matters!

After all of these other little things in life are finished — some of them are going to have some kind of affect on us for three-score-and-ten – they do affect us, they are important to us – but winning Christ is the only thing that matters.

Being found in him, knowing a saving union with him, is life eternal and it is all that matters.

It doesn’t matter how great or terrible my day was — if he would just speak to me for just a moment – this is the only thing that matters.

Christ is not a “big part” of a believers life, he is not “number one” – Christ is all!

Knowing him, having him, being found in him is the only thing that matters.

May the Lord cause us to truly see this and live it!

Look To Christ

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”John 1: 32-34

The cry of every gospel preacher is look to Christ.

John the Baptist cried, “Behold the Lamb of God” (John 1: 36)

My friend, my cry to you is look to Christ for everything.

Don’t look for salvation in your obedience to the law.

Look to Christ who kept the law for His people.

Don’t look for salvation in your religious ceremonies.

Look to Christ who is “the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” (Romans 10: 4)

Look for atonement in Christ our Passover.

Look for rest from all of your works in Christ our Sabbath.

Don’t look for salvation in your doctrine.

Believer, look to Christ for your comfort, peace, and assurance.

LOOK AND LIVE and never take your focus and attention off of Christ who is our all and in all.

I Have All

”But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.” | Philippians 4: 18

This is the testimony of a man who spent years bound by the Romans, hated and hounded by the Jewish leaders.

A man whose temporal possessions were probably no more than a few clothes, some books… yet he says: “I have all, I am full.”

Here is a man who is happy, content, and full of joy and peace.

There sits a King with wealth untold, with power, living in the lap of luxury, people waiting on him, to fulfill his every desire and command, yet he is not happy, he has no joy, he is not full, he does not have all.

What is the difference in these two men?

Paul has Christ; he knows Christ and is a joint heir with Christ. When the apostle surveys his wealth, he says, I possess the “unsearchable riches of Christ.” He knows the riches that he possesses in Christ are eternal. When he says, “I have all, I am full,” it is neither a wish nor a want; even then he was in full enjoyment of his wealth, for “Christ is all and in all.”

The worldling is never full, he never has enough, he never possesses all he wants, he never knows contentment, never knows what it is to be full.

The Lord Jesus asked, “how long will you labor for the meat that perishes?” How long will you make silver and gold your idol? Till you drop off into a Christless eternity? O, child of this world, you will never have ALL you aim for, you will always want more.

This man Paul has more than you have; HE HAS ALL! HE IS FULL! He says he can contain no more.

Christ is his PORTION, the riches of His grace, the riches of His glory.

Christ, who has ALL and does ALL, was his… “I AM FULL.” He desired no more than Christ, for in Christ he possessed ALL. “And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.” (1 Corinthians 3: 23)

Beloved, let the world say “I want, I want,” but let us as Christ’s beloved say, “I AM FULL, I HAVE ALL.” We shall soon hear, “Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:” (Matthew 25: 34)
