When Water is Best

It is in the desert where water tastes the sweetest; when the lips are parched, the mouth dry, and the throat like cotton.

It is then that every drop is precious and none is wasted.

When it seems life hangs on no more than a drop it’s then that a man will part with his fortune for some water to quench his thirst. And, likewise, it is in the grip of trial where the Water of life tastes best.

When the soul is dry from many a windy day. When the muscle of the human spirit is strained past another try and despair threatens to snuff away the last ray of hope. Oh, how precious then are the words of the Saviour!

It is then that no excuse is given for absence when He speaks; the weary mind will give its last thought just to hear one more sweet syllable from the Saviour’s lips. Not a single word falls unheeded into space. The thirsty soul will leave every other pursuit just to lay hold upon but a sip of this life-giving Water. Would it not do us all well to know a little more of that desert where men count precious the words of Christ?

Unworthy of Mercy; No Hope in the Law

You say you are unworthy of the least of God’s mercies.

Aren’t you glad Christ is worthy and that the redemption He accomplished was for the unworthy?

You say you have no goodness or merits to claim.

Aren’t you thankful God accepts sinners based upon the goodness and merits of His Son?

You say the law affords you no hope.

Right you are, but the gospel declares that the mercy and grace of God is freely given to sinners because of the doing and the dying of His dear Son! This is the only salvation worth having and the only one worthy to be proclaimed.

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

We Shall See Him as He Is

No trial or suffering is easy. If trials were without pain and discomfort, they would not accomplish the purpose for which they are sent. (James 1: 2-4)

But, when we look at all of earth’s sorrows, sufferings, and trials in the light of His eternal glory; when we shall be like Him, enjoy His presence, and partake in His perfect kingdom, then we will look on these present inconveniences as nothing. They are not worthy to be compared to that glory. (I John 3: 1-3)

We Are Saved By Grace

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” | Ephesians 2: 4-8

Accepted in the Beloved

All false religionists, even though they might profess Jesus Christ to be their Savior, put their trust in something they have done; something they believe enables God to accept them.

In doing so, they are saying that what Jesus Christ did was not enough. They openly and publicly declare that they saved themselves, blatantly denying that Jesus Christ is their Savior.

Brethren, “God has made us accepted in the Beloved” (in Christ) “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” (unmerited favor) (Ephesians 1: 6-7) When God gives His gift of faith to a hell-deserving sinner, we not only enter into His rest, we also cease from our own works as God did from His; giving our Great Triune God all the glory for His unspeakable gift. (Hebrews 4: 10; I Corinthians 1: 26-31)

Christ Prayeth for the Apostles and All Believers

These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received [them], and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we [are].

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. | John 17: 1-12

His Good Pleasure

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” | Philippians 2: 13

Everything concerning a sinner’s salvation is of God. Nothing is of us.

We don’t begin the work of salvation, He does. (Philippians 1: 6)
We don’t perform the work of salvation, He does. (Philippians 1: 6)
We don’t finish the work of salvation, He does. (John 19: 30, Hebrews 1: 3)
We don’t call on Him, He calls us. (Luke 5: 32)
We don’t seek Him, He seeks us. (Luke 19: 10)
We don’t find Him, He finds us. (Luke 15: 3-6)
We don’t accept Him, He accepts us. (Ephesians 1: 6)
We don’t produce our own faith to believe on Him, He puts His own faith in us and causes us to believe on Him. (Ephesians 2: 8)
We don’t earn any perfection of our own, He earned it for us. (Titus 3: 5)
It’s not that we loved Him, but that He loved us. (1 John 4: 10)
We don’t keep ourselves in His love, He keeps us there. (1 Peter 1: 3-5)
Salvation is totally of the Lord. (Jonah 2: 9)

Come To Christ

Christ told us, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” (John 7:37) And “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Isaiah prophesied “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”

ANY, ALL, and EVERY ONE; come thirsty, tired and burdened.

Come to Christ now, without any payment of your works, and enter into true rest!
