The Salvation Of God

”Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.” | Genesis 27: 29

God’s salvation is infinitely immense.

Usually when we think of being saved, we think of the punishment we are saved from. And that certainly is a blessing of infinite value. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.”

We also think of the state of blamelessness we have before the law of God because of our justification. “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect: it is God that justifieth.” That is another blessing of infinite value. But the immenseness of this salvation goes farther.

It is said in Hebrews 13: 10 that we are “partakers of His holiness” and 2 Peter 1: 4 says we are “partakers of the divine nature.” This is a breathtaking concept.

What a salvation!

Not only will I not be punished for my sins, but I am not in a state of guilt before God.

Not only am I not in a state of guilt before God, the word of God declares that I am a partaker of His holiness and very nature!

God’s salvation is infinitely immense.

Perhaps we will get a glimpse when we stand before God perfectly conformed to the image of His Son.

Until then, we just believe!

Business As Usual

”But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” | Matthew 24: 37-39

Our Lord Jesus Christ speaking of His second coming in Matthew 24: 37-39 informs us that men and women will be found just like they were in the days of Noah.

Before God sent His flood of wrath and judgment people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage. In other words, they were conducting business as usual. Men and women gave no thought to the Eternal One, nor to eternity “until the flood came and took them ALL away, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

Lost sinner, it will be no different when Christ comes to earth again.

Men and women will be conducting business as usual, giving no thought or consideration to their eternal souls. However, by the grace of God, there will be (as it was in the days of the flood) a remnant of chosen sinners saved.

All who were in God’s Ark in Noah’s day, found secure refuge.

All today who are found in God’s Ark, the Lord Jesus Christ, will also be saved from the eternal wrath of God to come. “And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thessalonians 1: 10)

Who does God shut up in the Ark of Safety? Like Noah, only those who have found grace in the eyes of the Lord! “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” (Genesis 6: 8)

Has this amazing grace found you, or is it business as usual with you?

All Of Grace

“And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.” | Acts 9: 6

And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace. (Acts 18: 27)

Apollos greatly assisted such who were already believers; and who became so, not of themselves, but through the grace of God; for faith is not of nature, nor the produce of man’s free will, but is the gift of God’s grace; it is a fruit of electing grace, an instance of distinguishing grace, it is owing to efficacious grace, and comes along with effectual calling grace, through the word preached, the means of grace; and is supported and maintained by the grace of God!

God Does Not See Iniquity In His People

”He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel” | Numbers 23: 21

Every son of Adam is nothing but sin.

If we are honest, all we see in ourselves is sin.

Then why does God, who sees everything exactly as it is, say that He doesn’t see iniquity in His people? Because He took the sin of His people away in Christ.

Christ was made sin for His people in such reality that there is no sin left in them – Christ took it all away.

The sacrifice of Christ for the sin of His people put their sin away so completely, in such current reality, that there is no iniquity left in them.

The Father does not behold iniquity in His people because there is no sin to see – Christ has taken it all away and removed it by the blood of His sacrifice.

Being Justified Freely

“But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.” | Psalm 63: 11

What does it mean to be justified?

I am sure that there have been many definitions given and I by no means can fully expound all that is involved in sinners being justified before God. However, I am sure that it means to be eternally pardoned from all sin by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1: 18) It means to be acquitted and vindicated of all charges before the holy justice of God. (Jude 24) It means to be made and regarded righteous in God’s sight. (Colossians 1: 21-22)

How are sinners justified?

By God as the source, “It is God that justifieth.” (Romans 8: 33)

By grace as the spring and fountain, “Justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3: 24)

By Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and blood atonement as the ground, “Being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5: 9)

By His resurrection as the proof and evidence, “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” (Romans 4: 25)

By faith as the means to receive this salvation in Christ, “Being justified by faith, we have peace with God.” (Romans 5: 1)

Things Which God Hath Prepared

”But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” | 1 Corinthians 2: 9

We should always read the Old Testament with a desire to find something in it about Jesus Christ.

We study this portion of the Bible with little profit, if we can see nothing in it but Moses, and David, and Samuel, and the Prophets.

Let us search the books of the Old Testament more closely.

It was said by Him whose words can never pass away, ‘These are they which testify of Me’.”

Salvation Is Of The Lord

“But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD.” | Psalm 37: 39

We have all heard of putting the cart before the horse.

That summarizes man’s religion.

It inverts the divine order.

It makes forgiveness the end rather than the beginning of salvation.

Man’s religion says you must believe before you can have life, rather than you believe because you live.

It says God will if you will, rather than God will and you shall.

It makes man the deciding factor rather than God. Anything that has man as the deciding factor is doomed for failure.

Thank God, “Salvation is of the Lord.”

True Conversion

”Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” | Psalm 143: 7-8

When the Word of GOD converts a man, it takes away from him his despair, but it does not take away from him his repentance and sorrow for sin.

True conversion gives a man full pardon from all sin, but does not make him presumptuous. He continually is “coming to Christ.”

True conversion gives a man perfect rest, but does not stop his growth in grace, works of faith and labor of love.

True conversion gives a man security and assurance in Christ, but does not allow him to leave off being watchful. “Keep thine heart, for out of it are the issues of life.”

True conversion gives a man strength and righteousness, but it never lets him boast nor have any confidence in the flesh.

True conversion makes Christian duties, service, worship, and study to be a joy and a pleasure, never burden- some nor grievous, and certainly never considered as a way to find favor with GOD.

True conversion brings a man to live FOR GOD. He does what he does for the glory of GOD. True conversion brings a man to live WITH GOD. He seeks and desires blessed communion with the Redeemer.

The most treasured times are those hours of sweet fellowship with Him and His people.

Unseen Things

”While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” | 2 Corinthians 4: 18

SALVATION IS CHRIST. The Lord Jesus Christ HIMSELF is the sum and substance of God’s glorious salvation. An old Israelite named Simeon looked into the face of the Lord Jesus Christ and said, “Mine eyes have seen thy salvation.” (Luke 2: 25-35) The beloved John said, “This is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life” (John 5: 11, 12) The apostle Paul said, “When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3: 4)

SALVATION COMES THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST. God’s salvation comes to lost sinners through simple, sincere, childlike faith and trust in Christ as He is revealed in the Scriptures. “To him give all the prophets witness, that through faith in his name, whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10: 43) The Lord Jesus told the apostle Paul that “by faith that is in me” sinners receive the forgiveness of sins and that inheritance prepared for the saints of God. (Acts 26: 13-18)

The Scriptures teach throughout that sinners are “saved by grace through faith” (Ephesians 2: 8-10; Romans 3: 24-28; Romans 5: 1); that is, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as He is revealed therein. The Word of God says to all who will hear, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16: 31)

SALVATION IS A FREE GIFT OF GOD’S GRACE. The sovereign God of the Bible freely gave His only begotten Son to purchase and secure the salvation of His sinful people, which He accomplished to perfection. (Hebrews 9: 12; Hebrews 10: 9-14) That is what the gracious God of the Bible freely did FOR sinners. However, that is not all that must be done in saving sinners. There must be a divine work accomplished IN sinners. Sinners, being spiritually dead, must have life, a new life, a divine life, which produces repentance, faith, conversion, perseverance in faith, etc. (Philippians 1: 6) This also God freely and sovereignly does in the salvation of sinners. It is God who shows sinners their sinfulness, their guilt, and their desperate need of Christ and salvation. Likewise, it is the great and gracious God of the Bible who reveals Christ to their souls. “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4: 6; Matthew 16: 13-17; 1 John 5: 20), whereby they are said to be born again, “not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, BUT OF GOD.” (John 1: 13)

The Greatest Privilege in All The World

“If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)” | Ephesians 3: 2-4

BRETHREN, as redeemed sinners, we have the greatest privilege in all the world: to be counted among the people of God and gather with them to worship our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As enlightened sinners we have the greatest work to do: make known in this world the glories of the Savior who has saved us.

As children of God, we have the most glorious destiny in all the world: to be made like the Lord Jesus Christ. In light of these things, do not the troubles and disappointments of this life become small?

O, let us, with sincere hearts, press on to lay hold of the wonderful salvation for which God has laid hold of us, letting nothing distract us from the goal.

We will never regret the loss of anything which is lost for the sake of Christ. But, O, the regrets of the Esau’s of the world who for comfort, riches, worldly success, self-vindication, or anything else, draw back from their dedication to Christ and His gospel.

Brethren, at all costs, press on!

The end is glorious to those who persevere!
