Three Questions Concerning Our Faith!

”And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.” | Acts 12: 7-8

Rowland Hill once said that, “…when a man comes to know the Lord, even his dog and cat and farm animals will be the better for it”

”When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.” (Acts 12: 10-11)

It was William Jay who wrote that, “…a person, when he comes to Christ, will be better in every relationship. He is a better husband, father, master, worker, and friend than before or else his religion is not genuine.”

”And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.” (Acts 12: 12-13)

Charles Spurgeon once said, “Do you hear one saying, ‘I keep my religion to myself’? Well, friend, you do not have to worry about it being stolen. You do not have to put it under lock and key; there is not enough of it to even tempt Satan to take it from you. A man who can keep his godliness to himself has so small a portion, I am afraid it will be of no credit to him nor any blessing to anyone else.”

”But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished. But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.” (Acts 12: 16-17)

I ASK THREE QUESTIONS CONCERNING OUR FAITH!

(1) Does it cause us to pray? worship God? give thanks?

(2) Does it cause us to seek His will, His word, and His way?

(3) Does it cause us to “be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven us?”

In Spirit And Truth

”God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” | John 4: 24

Here are two principles of worship without which all worship of God is vain.

God must be worshipped in spirit – a heart worship – as opposed to mere forms and ceremonies, going through the motions with body and lip service, etc.

If the heart does not pray it, the prayer is not accepted.

IF the heart does not sing it, the song is not accepted.

If the heart does not believe it, it is vain to profess it.

Those who worship God, must worship in spirit.

”For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10: 10)

Those who worship God in spirit must also worship Him in truth.

“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” (Isaiah 45: 22)

God has revealed Himself in His Word of truth as who HE is; how HE saves; by whom HE saves; the way in which any one must approach unto Him to worship.

All worship that is contrary to truth is vain worship.

All who worship God must worship Him in truth.

Someone has said, “How astonishing is the fact, that man dares to introduce his miserable inventions to deform the scriptural simplicity of divine; as if God who makes all things perfect, had, in this most important institution, forgotten to direct the use of altars – magnificent vestment – pomp and ceremonies. When will man, with child-like simplicity, follow gospel rules?”

The Evidence Of Things Not Seen

”The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.” | John 4: 49-50

Believers on the one hand are nothing but sin, and on the other hand, they have no sin.

This is one of the great mysteries of the Gospel that keeps God’s people humble, yet hopeful.

It causes them to cast all their care on the One that cares for them.

It leads them to have no confidence in the flesh, yet to come boldly before the Throne of grace.

It is the reason they can mourn and rejoice at the same time.

It shows them their inability to satisfy any part of God’s law, and it frees them from the condemnation of the law.

It causes them to bow in humble worship as mercy beggars, yet they hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

They are nothing yet have everything.

They are hell-deserving, yet heaven bound.

They are in abject poverty, and they are infinitely and eternally rich.

To the natural man, these things are a contradiction.

To the child of God… they are his life.
