Burning Hearts

“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” | Acts 2: 42

If we have true fellowship with one another, it is because we worship the true and living God together. “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” (1 John 1: 3)

If we truly break bread together, it is because we are made of the same bread and body. “For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.” (1 Corinthians 10: 17)

If we truly pray together, it is because Christ has made us of one accord. “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.” (Acts 1: 14)

It is a great privilege for brethren to worship together, talk to one another about our Master, observe the Lord’s Table together, eat together, and pray together.

May we always be reminded of the cause of all our “spiritual blessings in heavenly places, IN CHRIST.”

Boldness, Access, And Confidence

”In Whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him.” | Ephesians 3: 12

“Boldness” means: freedom in speaking; cheerful courage.

“Access” means: an open way without denial; the ability, right, and permission to approach and enter in.

“Confidence” means: trust, reliance, and assurance.

In chapter 2 verse 12 of his letter, the apostle Paul told the Ephesians that: without Christ we are aliens from the Commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world.

But he said in chapter 3 verse 12… With Christ! (In Christ) we have cheerful courage, an open way without denial, and assurance that we will be received!

“Seeing then that we have a Great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God…” “Let us therefore come boldly (in Him) unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4: 14, 16)

It Is Well With My Soul

IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL

”And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:” | Revelation 22: 1-3

I love to be in a congregation singing the song, It Is Well With My Soul. But how can a sinner sing that song and mean it?

Only in Christ.

It is well with my soul if Christ took my sin away from me and died to put those sins away under His blood. If my sin is gone, my sin can never condemn me.

It is well with my soul if Christ was punished for my sins as my Substitute. God will never punish me if Christ was already punished for me.

It is well with my soul if I am justified by faith in Christ, not my failed works of the law.

It is well with my soul if the Holy Spirit has given me faith in Christ because “whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.” (John 11: 26)

Abide In Me

”We preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.” | 2 Corinthians 4: 5

Our Lord said to His disciples, “Abide in me, and I in you, as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself.” (John 15: 4)

It is true that a person who is saved by God’s grace will remain saved forever; yet the scriptures are full of warnings to believers against UNBELIEF, against DRAWING BACK, against NEGLECTING THE WORD AND WORSHIP, against WORLD-LINESS, and against LEAVING OUR FIRST LOVE!

Here the Lord Jesus exhorts us to “ABIDE” in Him, which means to stay where we are. Abide (dwell) in His love, in His word, in His Spirit and fellowship. “As we have received Christ, so walk (live, abide, stay) in Him.”

Let us forever be on guard against any influence (whether material, social, or personal) which might hinder our fellowship and relationship with the Lord.

I think of poor Esau, who satisfied his appetite but lost his blessing. Are we so foolish?

Yes, we are! And we need to be constantly reminded of it.

STAY where you are!

Dwell in Christ and in His word, in His love and with his people. Don’t let anyone nor anything come between you and Him.

If you notice even the slightest decline in interest, desire, or thirst for spiritual growth, go with Jacob “BACK TO BETHEL.” (Genesis 35: 1-2)
