After His Kind

”And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good” | Genesis 1: 24-25

I have observed that animals are most comfortable when they are with their kind. Over the years, I have noticed the same in people.

When people are in their comfort zone, it is when they are with people like themselves. The World enjoys the company of the world, because they are with their kind – sons of darkness.

Believers are in their comfort zone when they are with other Believers, the reason being, they are with their kind – sons of God.

When the World and Believers are together, both are out of their comfort zone, why? Because they are not with their kind. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3: 6)

When people see me, which kind do they see me the most comfortable with? – That’s who I am. –

The Lord God Will Come

“When the poor and the needy seek for water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I, the Lord will hear them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will open rivers in dry places, and fountains in the midst of valleys.” | Isaiah 41: 17-18

The Lord sometimes, and perhaps not unfrequently, induces darkness, that His light may be more striking. He hedges up His people’s way with thorns, that the almighty hand, which removes them, may be more plainly seen.

Oh! it is blessed to be brought low, to be surrounded sometimes with difficulties, to see no way of escape, and all human resources fail, purposely that our extremity may be the Lord’s opportunity, and when we are most low, Jesus may be most exalted.

My soul, is it now even-tide in the soul, as it is eventide in the day? Art thou stripped, humbled, convinced of thy nothingness?

O look to all-precious, all-suitable Jesus.

Hear what the Lord saith: “At evening-time it shall be light.” (Zechariah 14: 7)

IS THE LAW SIN?

“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.” | Romans 6: 14-15

If I measure a crooked wall with a perfect plumb line, it reveals the crookedness of the wall, but does not remove it.

If I take out a bright light on a dark night, it reveals to me all the pitfalls and hindrances, but it does not remove them.

Now the plumb line and the lamp do not create the evils which they point out. They neither create nor remove, but simply reveal.

So it is with the law.

It does not create the evil in man’s heart; neither does it remove it. But with unerring accuracy, it reveals it.

What shall we say then?

Is the law sin? God forbid!

Determined to Preach Christ Alone

“Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.” | Numbers 21: 7-8

Anything other than the plain declaration of the gospel of Christ and him crucified is not preaching.

Every preacher should have Paul’s mind, determined to preach Christ alone.

Preachers are like the pole to which the brazen serpent was fastened.

We are useful only as long as we lift up and exalt the Son of God before the eyes of perishing men!

Thanksgiving for These Believers

”Knowing Brethren Your Election Of God” | 1 Thessalonians 1: 4

Your election is known by your calling!

“You hath He quickened who were dead.” Have you been quickened, made alive to the things of God in Christ?

Do you have an interest in the Gospel of God’s grace and mercy to sinners?

“The Holy Spirit will convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.” Have you been convinced of your sin or unbelief?

Have you been convinced that you have no righteousness and need Christ’s righteousness?

Have you been convinced that there is no judgment only to those in Christ?

If God has been pleased to do these things for you and in you, then you are elected!

“Our Gospel came to you not in word only but in power.” Is the Gospel of Jesus Christ only facts and history to you, or has that Gospel entered your heart and brought you to seek a saving interest in Christ?

“It is given unto you not only to believe on Him but to suffer for His sake.” Do you believe on Him? Do you really believe that Jesus Christ is your wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption and that He, of God, is made unto you all you need?

“We love Him because He first loved us.” Do you love Christ the Lord?

“No man can call Jesus Lord but by the Holy Spirit.” Is Christ your Lord? Have you truly bowed to Him in your heart of hearts?

“By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Do you really love the brethren?

There is no problem here.

If we are God’s elect, there are evidences enough, so “give diligence to make your calling sure!”

THE WORK OF GOD

“Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” | John 6: 28-29

Notice that they asked about the “works of God.”

The depraved sinner thinks God requires many and great “works” to be done on the part of the sinner.

The taller the works, the wider the works, the more demanding the works, and the sinner will go after them with both hands.

But when told that God is not looking to the sinner’s many wonderful works, but that this is “the work of God” — to believe on him whom he hath sent – the sinner finds that to believe on Christ, and part with his own self-righteousness, is entirely beyond his ability to perform.

BEING JUSTIFIED FREELY

“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” | Romans 3: 24

What does it mean to be justified?

I am sure that there have been many definitions given and I by no means can fully expound all that is involved in sinners being justified before God. However, I am sure that it means to be eternally pardoned from all sin by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1: 18)

It means to be acquitted and vindicated of all charges before the holy justice of God. (Jude 24)

It means to be made and regarded righteous in God’s sight. (Colossians 1: 21-22)

How are sinners justified?

By God as the source, “It is God that justifieth.” (Romans 8: 33)

By grace as the spring and fountain, “Justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3: 24)

By Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and blood atonement as the ground, “Being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5: 9)

By His resurrection as the proof and evidence, “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” (Romans 4: 25)

By faith as the means to receive this salvation in Christ, “Being justified by faith, we have peace with God.” (Romans 5: 1)

Let The Righteous Smite Me

”Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.” | Psalm 141: 3-4

To me the end of all controversy is “Thus saith the Lord.”

Only let me know that the Lord hath said this or that, and though the revelation should seem impossible to believe, and though it should come into conflict with all my previous notions, I will bow before it without a question. “The Lord hath said it,” stands to us instead of all reason, and argument, and evidence; yea, we believe God in the teeth of supposed evidence and reason, saying, “Let God be true, but every man a liar.”

The Unsearchable Riches of Christ

“The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” | Isaiah 40: 6-8

The song says:
“O, the unsearchable riches of Christ!
Precious, more precious than gold!”

Christ, Himself, is the riches.

When He gave Himself, He gave all the riches of heaven.

To have nothing but Him, is to have all.

And to have everything without Him, is to have nothing.

Spiritual Growth By The Word

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” | 1 Peter 2: 2

One certain evidence of spiritual life is growth.

The grace of God that brings salvation causes one to “grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Spiritual life is the life of faith, and “faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” And it is not just ‘reading the bible’ but feeding on Christ. He said, “except ye eat my flesh and drink my blood ye have no part in me.” That is faith in Christ. And that faith cometh by the hearing and reading of God’s Word.

The Word of God (gospel) is the seed that is sown in the heart and soul, bringing forth new and spiritual life. The Word of God is the food of that new soul, causing it to grow and bring forth fruit. God’s Word is called milk (for babes), meat (for strong men and women), bread, butter, honey… FOOD for the nourishment and growth of our spiritual bodies.

Just as poor diet, bad food and vices can stunt physical growth, leaving one weak and sickly; a poor diet of God’s Word, lack of hearing the preached Word, lack of fellowship, and the things of this world can stunt the growth of a believer.

Would it not be well to start the day with God’s Word?

Would it not be a good thing to supply our minds, hearts and souls with good food to go on? (Rather than fill them with junk.)

“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.” And even more important than the reading of the Word is the hearing of the Word preached. It is like a double portion of food; a many course meal of good food for the soul, already prepared for you. You need only come with hunger and dine. The soul who comes to the gospel table often will be fat and prospering; while the one who stays away will have leanness of soul.

“Desire the sincere milk of the Word that ye may grow thereby.”
