Being Justified By Faith

”Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” | Romans 5: 1-5

There has been only one faultless person in the world, and He has promised to present all believers “faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy!” (Jude 1: 24)

What Is Your Heart Set On?

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” | Philippians 1: 6

Here is great comfort for the child of God, especially under trials.

God will not forsake the work of his grace.

He will perform the work begun till we stand in His presence complete, without spot or blemish.

No King, No Rule, No Right, No Wrong

”In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” | Judges 21: 25

This scripture clearly describes the day in which we live.

These days there is no absolute Sovereign God being preached; no Judge; no Lord on the throne; no fear of God; so there is no right or wrong, no sin, no punishment for sin; so everyone is free to do anything they like.

Blame it on the pulpit.

Blame our sick society on the many false preachers who have told everyone for so long now, how much God loves them all, no matter who they are or what they are doing; no matter that they live like hell and hate God in Heaven… he loves you anyway. (They say.)

So men and women believe these liars and live as they please, with no fear of God, and no fear of any consequences for sin.

O’ the great and terrible surprise people are in for when they face the true and living God; the God of the Bible; the Holy and Righteous Lord and King of the universe Who hates sin.

May the same Lord unite our hearts to fear His Name, and call upon Him to have mercy on us all.

How To Put Off Old Man Put On New

”And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him” | Colossians 3: 10

Now then, there is but one thing with which Almighty God is satisfied – entirely satisfied – and that is THE PERSON AND WORK OF HIS SON!

It is with Christ that we must be satisfied, not with ourselves, nor anything about us!

When we cease from ALL our labors, and ALL our righteousness, and ENTER INTO HIS REST, pardon and peace will come without delay.

And You Believe Not

”Lord I believe, help thou mine unbelief.” | Mark 9: 24

Before this man believed, he was not aware of his unbelief.

It was not until he believed that he saw the power of his unbelief.

This is the continued cry of the believer, “Lord, I believe.”

The new man believes.

He cannot not believe and it is the new man that is painfully aware of the unbelief of the old man, “Help thou mine unbelief. I cannot do anything about it, and I am asking you to help me!”

The new man always believes and the old man never does.

But there will be no unbelief in heaven because the old man will not be there.

He was condemned and put away on the cross, and in heaven the believer will never have to deal with him again.

Ye Are Complete In Him

”And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power” | Colossians 2: 10

The believer standing in Christ does not fluctuate with his feelings, not even the increase or decrease of his faith or understanding or anything else.

He stands complete in Christ.

God would never trust any of His children to stand before him at anytime in their own selves – that is, in their merits or certain good frames of mind.

He knows our frame.

He remembers that we are yet dust.

Therefore, He has on purpose provided for them this perfect standing in Christ Jesus. “Ye are complete in Him,” the Holy Ghost said. He says in another place, “Ye are perfect in Christ Jesus.” (Colossians 1: 28)

The very nature of our God requires us to be perfect and complete before Him at all times.

He, out of necessity, therefore provided all this for His children: a perfection, a completeness, which can never be diminished. It is as unchanging as God himself. “Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath” (Hebrews 6: 17)

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13: 8)

Every true believer may walk through this world in perfect liberty, free from anything and everything – yes, even his sin, fear of condemnation, and all else that would cause him to doubt of his completeness.

He may freely come to God, worship Him, call Him “Father,” and this he may do at all times with the utmost confidence and thankfulness, because in Christ he stands, first and foremost and always, complete before God.

O thanks be to God for Jesus Christ.

True Profession

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” | 1 John 3: 18

The thing that troubles me most about the validity of our profession of Christ is that we talk, preach, and sing of love, mercy, and forgiveness.

But then, when the opportunity comes for us to love the unlovely, forgive the offender, and bind up the wounded heart, we join the circle of Pharisees, clutching our stones, ready to wound and maim.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5: 22-23)

A profession that does not produce is a false profession.

Hallowed Be Your Name

”After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” | Matthew 6: 9

God’s name is highly regarded and greatly respected by Himself and His people.

His law commanded, “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.” (Exodus 20: 7)

His people pray “hallowed be Your name,” (Matthew 6: 9) expressing their desire that His name be sanctified and made holy.

Holy Scriptures speak of His “holy name” many times.

He rebukes those who profane (the English verb profane is from the Latin profanare = “to desecrate, render unholy, violate”) His holy name.

“And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land. But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went. Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.” (Ezekiel 36: 20-23)

The world is notorious for profaning God’s name, especially in its euphemisms and minced oaths.

The name “God” is profaned with: egad; gawd; golly; gosh.

The name “Lord” is profaned with: lordy; lawzy.

The name “Jesus Christ” is profaned with: cheese and rice; crikey; cripes; gee; gee whiz; Jeebus; jeepers; jeez; Jiminy Christmas; Jesus H. Christ; Judas Priest.

We also hear them speaking profane terms such as: begorra; (by God) bejabbers; (by Jesus) dadgum / dagnammit / goldern; (God damn) drat; (God rot it) gadzooks; (God’s hooks – the nails of Christ’s crucifixion) omigosh / omigod / omg (O my God); suffering succotash; (suffering Savior) zounds. (God’s wounds)

May He find His people never profaning His name, and ever among those who pray and practice “hallowed be Your name”!

Comfort In Trouble

”So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” | Romans 1: 15-17

Being a believer in Jesus Christ and resting in His good providence does not exempt us from trouble, trial, sorrow and heartache in this life.

Our Lord said, “In this world you shall have tribulation.” “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16: 33)

But here is our comfort and help, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46: 1)

Our blessed Lord said, “Come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4: 16)

Our gracious God has promised wisdom to understand the trial “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” (James 1: 5)

Grace to endure and bear the trial “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12: 9)

Faith to trust and believe God through the trial “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4: 19-20)

Peace to rest in His purpose, knowing that this trial works to our eternal good. (Romans 8: 28-35)

Hope to rejoice in our Lord and Saviour, Who said, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee” “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13: 5)

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 19)

Surely, we must conclude that we are needy and sinful creatures and that the Lord Jesus Christ is our only resource of help and hope!

Absolute Sovereignty

”And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” | Matthew 14: 22-27

Since creation, all things have been done with such a perfect exactness, that if the world were to begin again, and all the affairs of it were repeated, there would not be even the smallest alteration in any event.

All has been done so well, nothing needs do be changed or fixed.

~ Charles Spurgeon
