In Him I Rejoice!

“Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. | Matthew 2: 2

Although I am a sinner, yet I despair not; for Christ, who is my Redeemer and my righteousness, liveth.

In Him I have no sin, no fear, no sting of conscience, and no fear of judgment; (Galations 2: 20) for in Him there is no condemnation. (Romans 8: 1)

I am indeed a sinner as touching this present life; but I have a righteousness of God which is above this life, who is Christ my Lord.

In Him I rejoice!

Live in an Attitude of Thanksgiving and Prayer

“Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come. Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!” | Psalm 71: 18-19

The Apostle Paul says, “Rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing and give thanks to God in all things” (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18) This is the will of God; that we rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks. What we are, what we have, where we are, and all that happens in the life of a believer are all according to the will of God for us.

Let us rejoice in prosperity or adversity and live in an attitude of thanksgiving and prayer, even when we have no particular request. Very ungrateful is the man who does not set so high a value on the love of God, the righteousness of Christ, and the hope of eternal life that he allows anything in this life to overshadow that wonderful gift of grace.

How can I murmur and complain when I am a child of the King of kings?

Sheep Of Thy Pasture

“How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire? Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name. For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place. O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.” | Psalm 79: 5-8

Like the Israelites who were bitten by the fiery serpents, because of the judgment of God, were perishing, so all of us were perishing under the sentence of death because of sin.

But God graciously provided the remedy.

The serpent of brass, having the form of a serpent, but having no poison, was lifted up on a pole for all to see.

Everyone who looked upon it was healed.

Even so, Jesus Christ came in the likeness of sinful flesh, but had no sin.

He was lifted up by God upon the cross in the place of sinners. And, behold, every sinner who looks upon Christ with a believing heart is healed!

Religious But Lost

“Whosoever believeth that JESUS IS THE CHRIST is born of God.” | >b>1 John 5: 1

All who are born of God believe that Jesus is the Christ.

The title THE CHRIST signifies anointed and includes all the offices of the Son of God. To believe Him to be THE CHRIST is to believe Him to be that Prophet which Moses said should come, who has declared the whole mind and will of the Father. It is to believe He is that Priest which should arise after the order of Melchizedek and make full atonement for sin and effectual intercession for transgressors. It is to believe He is King of kings and Lord of lords, whom God hath set over all things from all ages and for all time.

This faith in Christ is not a mere assent to the fact nor merely acknowledging it as the demons have done. (Luke 4: 41)

It is to believe with the heart. (Romans 10: 9-10)

It is to bow the knee in repentance and to look to Christ, trust in Him, receive Him as our righteousness, to rest in His blood for cleansing, and to lay hold of Him as our Savior, Redeemer, and Mediator. (1 Timothy 2: 5)

Such faith is far above and beyond the reach of the human mind.

It is the gift of God.

It is the result of regeneration and a new birth, for we must be drawn to Christ and taught of God. (John 6: 44-45)

Lord, What Will You Have Me To Do?

“Lord, what will you have me to do?” Acts 9: 6

This is Paul’s question on the road where he met the sovereign Christ.

It was not, ‘what do I think is best for me?’ Or ‘what will afford me the most pleasure and comfort?’ Or even ‘what do other people do?’ But “Lord, what will YOU have me to do?”

In every case enable me, by Thy grace, to do what is pleasing in Thy sight and that which will bring glory to Thy name.

Where we get in trouble is putting our wills and ways before His!

It is not I but Christ, His gospel, His church, His kingdom, His glory, which must be considered.

When this is settled “I” will fall in the right place and though the way may not be easy; in the end it will be pleasant.

“In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3: 6)

COMPLETE IN HIM

“And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:” | Colossians 2: 10

If someone like me is complete, I know I must be complete only in Christ.

Everything about me is incomplete.

My faith is incomplete.

My repentance is incomplete.

My enjoyment of peace is incomplete. My love is incomplete.

My experience is incomplete.

Yet I am, right now, complete in Christ.

It is not that I will be complete one day, but I am complete right now because the Lord Jesus Christ completed the work of salvation for me and in me.

DIVINE PARADOXES

“And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,” | Ephesians 6: 19

The wiser we get, the greater fools we become (I Corinthians 3: 18)

The stronger we grow, the weaker we are (II Corinthians 12: 9-10)

The more we possess, the less we have (II Corinthians 6: 10)

The more completely bankrupt, the more freely forgiven (Luke 7: 42)

The more utterly lost, the more perfectly saved (Luke 19: 10)

And the more like a child, the greater in the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18: 4)

Blaming the Lord

“Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.” | Jude 8

Whether it be trouble sent from God or caused by Man, man blames others for troubles they are in.

The poor complain that they are not rich like other people are.

The sick complain that they are not well.

The bereaved complain that they lost the friend.

The enslaved complain that they are not free any more.

The ugly complain that they are not pretty.

The old complain that they’ve lost their strength.

Complaining, isn’t that a common sin?

It has been since the fall, and it comes because of the fall.

It comes because of what we feel in our hearts.

Hear The Word Of The LORD!

“Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.” | Ezekiel 37: 4

All error and eternal damnation comes from hearing and heeding the words of men.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end is always destruction. God’s ways are not our ways, and God’s thoughts are not our thoughts. So if we search the words of men for answers to the questions of salvation and redemption we will only stay confused; we will never be settled on what the truth actually is; and we will never find peace, rest, and contentment.

A true, God called preacher will only repeat to you: “The word of the LORD.”

The only hope we have is to “Hear Him!”

The only word that will “Stand forever” is His word.

A saving faith in Christ comes “by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

So, “Let God be true, but every man a liar!”

Where is God? What is He Doing?

“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.” | Romans 10: 1

Believers pray for their sin to be forgiven. We pray for our loved ones to hear the Gospel of free grace in Christ and to be drawn to Him. We pray for our brethren in Christ to be comforted, and we pray for God to call out His elect in this generation. But do we pray for our enemies?

Paul was praying for the salvation of his earthly kinsmen in Romans 9: 3 and 10: 1. Those Jews viewed him as a traitor. One who changed sides during a holy war. They likely referred to him only as Saul, and with a sour tone in their voices mocking him. They would torture and kill him if they could. But Paul earnestly prayed for them to hear and to know Christ.

Our Master told us to do just that in Matthew 5: 44. He said to “pray for them that despitefully use you.” Christ not only told us to pray for OUR enemies, but on our behalf, He prayed for HIS enemies – “Father, forgive them; they know not what they do.” (Luke 23: 34) Also, He died for His sheep while we were ungodly enemies against Him. (Romans 5: 6-8)

May we be given the grace to pray for the ones that hate us, despise us and would kill us if possible. That they too may know their sin and know the One who was made sin for His people, The Lord Jesus Christ!
