Look And Live!

Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. | Psalm 86: 3-5

Throughout the Bible that act of faith by which we receive eternal life is spoken of as a look. Like those children of Israel who were bitten by the fiery serpents had to look to the brazen serpent for life, we must look to Christ crucified for life eternal.

Salvation begins in a look. “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45: 22) We must look away from ourselves to Christ for our entire salvation.

Salvation is maintained by a look. “Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down on the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12: 2)

Salvation will end in a look. “And they shall see his face” (Revelation 22: 4)

If you hope to see the Savior’s face with joy in glory, you must look to him now.

Look, I say, look to Christ!

Look and live!

I Shall Be Satisfied

“All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.” | Leviticus 13: 46

Those who have been saved are those who are “being saved.” (I Corinthians 1: 18; Philippians 2: 12, 13)

Those who have learned of Christ are those who “are learning” of Him. (John 6: 45; Matthew 11: 29)

Those who truly know the Lord are those who “desire to know Him.” (Philippians 3: 7-10)

Those who have seen the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ are those who continue to cry unto the Lord, “I beseech Thee, show me Thy glory.” (Exodus 33: 18)

These are the people who say, from the heart, “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake with thy likeness” (Psalm 17: 15)

FRATERNITY OF BRETHREN

“But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” | John 16: 6-8

It was the grace of God which taught Saul of Tarsus how to say “brother.”

If the Lord had not brought this proud Pharisee down, his Jewish pride would never have condescended to call a Roman “brother.” But by the grace of God, there is in the heart of this “Hebrew of Hebrews” such love for all believers of every race and nation that he calls them all “my brethren.”

Someone said, “Grace joins believers in a common brotherhood and makes the prominent man embrace the poor and confess his love for them; grace weaves the threads of separate individualities and personalities into one undivided family!”

Let the gospel be learned in the heart and it will mark the end of selfishness, it will bring down the proud from their elevated positions, and it will lift the young, the weak, and the old to their common rights and position as sons of God also.

“Liberty, equality, and fraternity” may be heralded in the Bill of Rights; but only the gospel can make us truly free, make us all equal in the person of our Lord Jesus, and give us the fraternity of brethren in God’s family.

SIN AND FORGIVENESS

“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.” | 1 Corinthians 12:12

We love to hear the gospel that tells us of sin forgiven, of being washed from our sin in His precious blood.

Sin is too familiar with us. We have committed it, we are affected by it daily, and it is our daily trial.

Sin of our past, sin is our burden today, sin as it is, is our own affliction until we enter into our eternal rest.

It is a battle we have entered into that is a war without and within… but, thank God for Ephesians 1: 7 says; “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sin;” how? “according to the riches of his grace!”

Forgiveness of sin, what a joy, what greater news can a sinner hear?

God’s free grace gave us His son to redeem us by His own blood.

God’s free grace came and effectually applied that blood to our souls!

It was free grace that forgave us all our sin, “where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” (Romans 5: 20)

God Delivers His People

“And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.” | Isaiah 30: 18

How blessedly God times His interventions. He is never too early, and never too late.

It is the impatience of unbelief and the fretfulness of self-will which so often makes us think the Lord is tardy.

Often God “waits that He may be gracious” in order to bring us to the end of ourselves, and that the deliverance may more evidently appear to be from Himself.

At other times, He delays His intervention on behalf of His own for the greater chagrin and dismay of their enemies.

A Wonderful Master

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” | 1 Corinthians 1: 30

Christians serve a wonderful Master.

They serve Him who is… all ear to hear them, all hand to uphold them, all power to
protect them, all wisdom to direct them, all goodness to relieve them, all mercy to pardon them.

Children in the Marketplace

When scripture speaks of God being ‘from above’, it is not speaking of direction (what we think is up or down) but of superiority; high and lifted up, as opposed to being lowly.

Our God is all around us.

“In Him we live and move and have our being.” We are like a bottle in smoke.

David said: “If I make my bed in hell Thou art there.”

How shall every eye see Him from all parts of the earth? How?

All eyes will be opened to see Him as He is… omnipresent… everywhere.

As Elisha’s servant’s eyes were opened to see horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha, all flesh shall someday see the Lord, as He is, all around us.

The Lord Cometh to Execute Judgment on the Ungodly

“I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.” | Jude 5

The Lord has a people.

The cross is about the judgment of God.

The cross is about the holiness of God.

The cross is about the justice of god.

God has always had a chosen people that He loved; He elected them and has written their names into the book of life. His desire is to save them, and forgive them, and enter into fellowship with them, and take them to heaven to be with Himself; He cannot do that at the expense of his holiness.

The Lord has a people that He desires to forgive them and to manifest Himself to them, but cannot do so at the expense of justice.

That is the kind of God He is.

That is what the cross is about.

The holiness of god and the justice of God being met and satisfied in the redemption Christ obtained at the cross.

And The Ark Rested

“The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.” | Genesis 8: 2-12

When the apostle Paul, along with some Roman soldiers, was providentially found to be in the midst of a storm called “Euroclydon,” he gave this word of assurance to all those who were fearing for their lives… “sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me” (Acts 27: 25)

The Lord had promised Paul that he must stand before Caesar (Acts 27: 24) and the apostle, by the grace of God, rested in the Lord’s word.

There was no way that God’s word would fail.

Brethren, we’re all promised that our faith shall be tried, (James 1:3) but may the Lord bring back to our minds His promise to each of His own… “I’ll never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

And by the grace of God, the Lord’s people believe that shall be as it was told them.

HE WHO COUNTS THE STARS!

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” | Psalm 147: 3-5

He who counts the stars and calls them by their names, is in no danger of forgetting His own children! He knows your case as thoroughly as if you were the only creature He ever made, or the only saint He ever loved!

It is most important for us to learn, that the smallest trifles are as much arranged by the God of Providence, as the most startling events.

He who counts the stars — has also numbered the hairs of our heads.

Our lives and deaths are predestined — but so, also, are our sitting down and our rising up!

“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matthew 10: 29-30)
