We Believe And Are Sure

”Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” | John 6: 68-69

From the standpoint of God’s eternal decree, it may be truly said that believing sinners will not turn away from Christ because they cannot.

But from the standpoint of the believer’s experience, it may just as truly be said that believers cannot turn away from Christ because they will not.

And this is not presumption.

It is the simple, saving, childlike faith and trust of a believing sinner, a true believer.

The desperate need of his soul can only be satisfied in Christ Jesus the Lord!

True Faith

”And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.” | Matthew 14: 19

Those who have that faith which is the gift of God, that faith which comes through hearing the Word of God – one need not be troubled about them trusting in their faith.

This faith causes those who have it – without exception – to renounce themselves and trust entirely in Christ the Saviour.

This faith causes self to be abhorred and Christ adored.

Those who have this faith could never trust in their faith.

Beggars With Glorious News

”Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.” | 2 Kings 7: 9

Three little robins sit in their nest right above my back garage door.

They sit there day after day in absolute helpless dependency.

If mama robin does not bring food and put it into their mouths, they will soon die.

They seem to be always hungry, and whenever mom approaches they open their mouths wide, trying to get all the food they can.

I would to God that we, as believers, could be as those little robins when it comes to spiritual food, the “Bread of Life” – “Jesus Christ and Him crucified for guilty sinners;” when it comes to reading or hearing the Word of God; that we could always do so with such eagerness and hunger.

“Break Thou the bread of life, Dear Lord to me / As Thou didst break the loaves, Beside the sea / Beyond the sacred page, I seek Thee, Lord / My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word.”

Unbeliever, your helpless dependency is as great as those little robins in their nest.

If God does not cause you to hunger and bring you food, you will soon die… die in your sins!

If God does not open your heart to hunger and thirst after Christ and to receive Him as He is; to submit to Him, to love Him, to cleave to Him as your most prized possession, your doom is inevitable!

Perhaps the Lord has already caused you to hunger after Christ and life.

Perhaps you truly desire salvation from sin. “He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.” (Luke 1: 53)

What wonderful news for hungry sinners!

Believe!

Believe on Christ!

Believe on Christ now!

He that believeth shall be saved.

Saving Faith

”That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil” | Hebrews 6: 18-19

Saving faith is not based upon one’s feelings but upon God’s faithfulness.

It embraces and rejoices in the promises of God.

It needs no evidence or proof, only a word from the living God of the Bible; being ”And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” (Romans 4: 21); and realizing that the only difference between God’s faithful promise and its perfect fulfillment is just a little time…

His appointed time!

All Liars Go To Hell

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” | Revelation 21: 4

“Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus”

TRUST is a wonderful thing, and SWEET is a good word to describe it.

Whether between husband and wife, parents and children, friends, or whomever… trust is sweet!

The word implies faith, confidence, and reliance, but that is not all.

There is also a wonderful rest and repose in trust; a freedom from doubts, suspicions, anxieties, and fearful apprehensions.

Trust is calm, peaceful and assured. “Tis so sweet” when guilty sinners come to “trust in Jesus.”

Precious Faith

”And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.” | Acts 18: 5

That precious, saving faith which unites the sinner to Christ also unites the sinner to all those who belong to Christ.

To be one with Him is to be one with them.

Loving and serving Him has something to do with loving and serving them; and loving and serving them has something to do with loving and serving Him.

Saving faith says that there is one Savior.

Saving faith also says that there is one household, one family, one body, one vine tree, etc.

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15: 5)

A High God For Low Sinners

”Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me. The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.” | Psalm 138: 6-8

As a criminal condemned, convicted and sentenced, I walked steadily through the darkness, drawing ever nearer the time and place of execution. I knew well that I was guilty and that I justly deserved what lay ahead. My name was synonymous with lawlessness, rebellion and guilt. I didn’t have a single argument in my defense. There was not one thing I could do.

I had already abandoned all hope in myself.

But as I drew near the executioner, a man approached out of the shadows, took me by the shoulders and interrupted my trek toward death. “Just trust me and I will take your place, setting you free from all guilt.” ‘But I have so disrespected, dishonored and despised the law, were I to be freed, it would only be temporary, for my very name is Guilt. I would soon be apprehended and brought again to this place of approaching doom.’

“But I have honored and magnified the law,” he said, “you may take my name and I will take yours, thus you will be reckoned righteous and I guilty.” ‘But, Sir, that would necessitate your death. The law would pursue, arrest and execute you.’ “I’m willing,” he said, “to die in your place.”

‘But, Sir, why would you sacrifice yourself for me? You are innocent and I am guilty.’

“Though you haven’t known me, I have known and loved you for a long time, and came here for this purpose.”

Now I am free because he bore the penalty for my guilt.

Now I live because he died!

And though I am personally guilty, in the name of my friend, my substitute, the judge accepts me and favors me. Needless to say, I live under the influence of my substitute’s love and try to honor his name. To me, his name is above every name! Each new day of life, every joyful thought of the future and my present peace with the judge is all because of him. He is my life, my peace and my happiness!

My friends, this story illustrates the gospel of Christ, the gospel that is all of grace.

It is often suggested that such a gospel leaves men to live after the flesh, totally unchanged.

But I propose that any who profess commitment to this gospel, yet remain unchanged, have merely acknowledged the story, but never personally met the Redeemer!

I Shall Be Satisfied

“Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places. He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries. | Psalm 135: 6-7

Those who have been saved are those who are “being saved.”

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1: 18)

“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2: 12-13)

Those who have learned of Christ are those who “are learning” of Him.

“It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” (John 6: 45)

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11: 29)

Those who know the Lord are those who “desire to know Him.”

“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” (Philippians 3: 7-10)

Those who have seen the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ are those who continue to cry, “Lord, I beseech Thee, show me Thy glory.” (Exodus 33: 18)

These are the people who by the grace of God can say, “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness” (Psalm 17: 15)

Rejoicing In Hope

”For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” | Romans 5: 6-11

THE Word of God plainly, clearly, and thoroughly teaches that man by nature is contrary and opposed to God in every way.

For example, God by nature is infinitely and immutably holy – man by nature is unchangeably and incurably sin; God is light – man by nature is darkness; God is truth – man’s whole life by nature, without God, is a lie; God is infinitely good – man by nature is inherently and unchangeably bad.

In a word, man is a natural born enemy of God. In fact, the natural man’s mind is enmity against God – not merely at enmity, but enmity itself! (Romans 8: 5-7) Thus men by nature love darkness and deception rather than God’s precious Word. (John 3: 19) Therefore man’s greatest need is to be reconciled to God.

It is a continual burden on my heart that so many preachers of our day, rather than preaching God as He is to sinners as they are, (Sinners in the hands of an angry God) are preaching a god who is palatable, agreeable, suits the taste of fallen, human nature, a god whose chief attribute is love rather than holiness, a god who loves everybody the same, who gave His Son as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind, a god who is trying to save all men.

These preachers, for personal advantage and gain, (the good opinion of men, and numbers) are preaching a false god, a false gospel, and thus giving their hearers a false hope. Their disciples have never been brought to bow before the true God as mercy seekers.

How could they?

They have never heard of the true God of the Bible. How can they ever be reconciled to God?

Dear souls, God can only be worshiped by beggars, mercy seekers, before His sovereign throne of glory and grace.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9: 38)

Trust

”Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.” | Hebrews 6: 1-2
