What Is Your Heart Set On?

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” | Philippians 1: 6

Here is great comfort for the child of God, especially under trials. God will not forsake the work of his grace. He will perform the work begun till we stand in His presence complete, without spot or blemish.

Taste and See

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” | Psalm 34: 8

The LORD has created our bodies in such a way that we experience this physical life through our senses. One of those ways is taste. We can taste and see if something is sweet or salty, etc. Even so it is spiritually.

By faith we taste and see that the LORD is good. He is all that is good, “none good but God.” (Mark 10: 18) He is good in what He gives and in what He takes away.

The LORD gives us righteousness and takes away our sins.

He gives us peace and takes away our unrest.

He gives us hope and takes away our despair.

He gives us joy and takes away our sorrow.

“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” (Psalm 30: 5)

Everything the LORD gives to us is good, and everything He takes away from us is good also.

Blessed Is He That Considereth The Poor

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed [is] he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; [and] he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness. I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish? And if he come to see [me], he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; [when] he goeth abroad, he telleth [it]. All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. An evil disease, [say they], cleaveth fast unto him: and [now] that he lieth he shall rise up no more. Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up [his] heel against me. But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever. The Work of Grace

“Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.” | Isaiah 6: 5

The work of self-righteous religion cries, “Woe is men.”

The work of grace cries, “Woe is me! I am undone…”

The work of self-righteous religion cries, Isaiah 65: 5 “…stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou.”

The work of grace cries, Luke 18: 13 “And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.”

Lord, do a work of grace in me.

He Never Changes

“HE NEVER CHANGES” | Hebrews 13: 8

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

I am so thankful that as I grow older and things change, inside and out, that there is One who never changes.

  1. His love never changes with time, for He loved me with an everlasting love that knows no change.
  2. His power never changes. He is just as able to keep me from falling today as when I first began.
  3. His Word never changes: “God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?” (Numbers 23: 19) Has He not magnified His Word above His Name?
  4. His election of me shall never change. He will never cast off those whom He has chosen, for they will never do anything that He did not know about and has not already taken care of.
  5. The power of His blood shall never change. It still cleanses from all sin. No matter how deep the stain has gone, His blood washes it away.
  6. His Sacrifice will never change, it will never lose its effectiveness because it is always fresh in the midst of the Throne of God: “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain…” (Revelation 5: 6)

We have a living sacrifice standing in the midst of the Throne of God.

When we rise out of our beds in the morning and go through our changes, just remember that there is One who remains the same yesterday, today and forever: The Rock Christ Jesus.

The Believer’s Appetite

The Believer is alive unto God and proves it by his appetite. He hungers after righteousness, he thirsts after the water of Life. He cries for mercy. He seeks the Lord. These are evidences of the Life of God in the soul.

Dead men have none of these appetites.

Thank God for this spiritual appetite, for He will fill it.
