A Memory That Forgets

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” | Ephesians 4: 32

One of the best things we can learn to cultivate is a memory that forgets.

A memory that forgets all wrongs, all ill words, all ingratitude.

If our Lord never remembers our sins against Him, let’s not remember any against us.

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” (Hebrews 8: 12)

Let’s remember to forget as well as forgive.

That Is The Problem

“Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.” | Romans 16: 25-27

A believer related a story to me about a discussion he had with another man (a very religious man) concerning the doctrine of election.

When the man disagreed with the doctrine of election, the believer told him to search the scriptures of which the man replied, “I don’t need to search the scriptures.”

I replied, “That is his problem.”

People believe what they want to believe regardless of what the word of God teaches.

Most try to make the word of God fit what they believe instead of believing what it says.

The only warrant and foundation for all that we believe is the word of God.

Saving Faith

”Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” | 2 Timothy 1: 9

When we have the mind of Christ, we see God in everything, we see Christ as everything, and we see ourselves as nothing.

What Is Your Heart Set On?

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” | Philippians 1: 6

Here is great comfort for the child of God, especially under trials.

God will not forsake the work of his grace.

He will perform the work begun till we stand in His presence complete, without spot or blemish.

He Never Changes

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” | Hebrews 13: 8

I am so thankful that as I grow older and things change, inside and out, that there is One who never changes.

  1. His love never changes with time, for He loved me with an everlasting love that knows no change.
  2. His power never changes. He is just as able to keep me from falling today as when I first began.
  3. His Word never changes: “God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?” (Numbers 23: 19) Has He not magnified His Word above His Name?
  4. His election of me shall never change. He will never cast off those whom He has chosen, for they will never do anything that He did not know about and has not already taken care of.
  5. The power of His blood shall never change. It still cleanses from all sin. No matter how deep the stain has gone, His blood washes it away.
  6. His Sacrifice will never change, it will never lose its effectiveness because it is always fresh in the midst of the Throne of God: “And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain…” (Revelation 5: 6)

We have a living sacrifice standing in the midst of the Throne of God.

When we rise out of our beds in the morning and go through our changes, just remember that there is One who
remains the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Rock Christ Jesus.

Where Does God Dwell?

”Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” | Hebrews 12: 1-2

Our God is not on a shelf somewhere in some building; our God does not dwell in houses made with hands.

Even the heaven of heavens cannot contain him.

God is too immense to be contained in a space or place.

However, there is one person who contains all that God is; Jesus Christ contains in him the fullness of God. “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (Colossians 2: 9)

If we desire to know and study God in the fullness of his person, look no further than Jesus Christ.

“Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?” (John 14: 9)

A Curious Sinner And A Seeking Savior

”And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.” | Luke 19: 5-7

There is a song that goes, “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the bible tells me so…”

The correct way to sing this song is, “Jesus loves sinners, this I know, for the bible tells me so…”

If the Lord loves me, then I must be as the bible describes me to be: a lost, hell deserving sinner in need of mercy.

If I do not see this to be me, then I cannot sing, “Jesus loves me…”

What The Redeemed Know

”For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body” | Romans 8: 22-23

The Believer’s redemption is complete in Christ, however his experience of redemption is not complete until he stands in His presence with a new body.

The Importance Of Knowing Christ

”That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” | Philippians 3: 10

I know that there are some things that are important to us; there are some people that are important to us. However, in light of our great need of Christ nothing else is that important.

We need Him. As the woman with the issue of blood said, “If I can but touch the hem of his garment, I shall be made whole.”

Without Him we are lost, undone, and unaccepted by the Father.

There is no material thing or human relationship that can supply my spiritual need; however, in Christ we are complete. “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:” (Colossians 2: 9-10)

In Christ we have all that we need to stand in God’s presence accepted. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 19)

I cannot express how important it is to know Christ; all material things will burn up, and all fleshly relationships will be dissolved. However, our relationship with Christ will never be dissolved nor diminished, and it will only grow sweeter.

Judge the importance of everything in light of Him.
