In Christ

“They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?” | John 8: 4-5

Often someone asks what “position” you hold on a particular doctrine, such as particular redemption, or the depravity of man.

But the word of God never tells us to come to a position, but to a person, to Christ Jesus the Lord.

He himself said, “Come unto me.” Again, “All that the Father gives me shall come unto me, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” The scriptures speak of believers being “in Christ” in several places. This is the place I want to be found – In Christ. This is the only place where a sinner can have a secure position from sin, death, hell, and the judgment and wrath of God.

When a sinner comes to Christ, trusts Christ and learns that he was chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world, then he has the most blessed position a poor sinner can have.

Justified!

Accepted!

Righteous!

Where?

Before God, who is holy and inhabits eternity.

Before Him who knows our thoughts afar off.

Before Him who knows the heart.

“Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.”

How?

“It is Christ that died, yea rather is risen again, who sitteth at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” (Romans 8: 33-34)

Sick of Love

”Lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God” | 2 Timothy 3: 1-4

Love is a word that is one of the most abused words in the world no matter what language it is spoken in.

I for one am sick to death of the love of this world and its abuse. What kind of love is it that causes men and women to live together without marriage? God calls it fornication.

Then there is the love that causes a couple to stand before a preacher, enter into a covenant before God and men, promising to love, and cherish, till death do us part. In a few months or a few years the love dies or even turns to hate. I am sick of this kind of love.

What about mothers and fathers who have children and tell them how much they love them, then start using drugs and would rather give up their children than their drugs or alcohol. I am sick of this sad excuse for love aren’t you? A couple gets married, one of them meets someone else and brings their new lover in over their children, who abuses them, verbally or physically, and they allow it for fear of losing their lover. Oh how sick am I of this love.

The world now rejoices in men loving men and women loving women, when on its face it is perverted and unscriptural, it is against nature itself. Are you as sick of this kind of love as I am?

One thing all these “loves” I have mentioned have in common is a love of self… a love of pleasure.

But there is LOVE that makes my heart full and thankful. The love of God for His elect that was manifested in the Son of His love. I rejoice that He loved us with an everlasting love, and that He commended His love to us while we were yet sinners.

It was His love that made Him go willing to the cross and shed His blood to cleanse us from our sins. Bless His name His love never changes, it is as God Himself, immutable. Having loved us when we were unlovable He will love us and keep us from eternity to eternity.

Be Still and Know that I Am God

”Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” | Psalm 46: 10

Salvation has three tenses: past, present, and future.

Past tense of Salvation: We have been saved from sin’s penalty by Christ’s death on the cross: “But He was wounded for our transgressions” (Isaiah 53: 5)

Present tense of Salvation: We are being saved from sin’s power by Christ’s intercession on high: “He ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7: 25)

Future tense of Salvation: We shall be saved from sin’s presence: “And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth.” (Revelation 21: 27)

WHAT SUITS ME

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings:” | Philippians 2: 13-14

Being the sinner I am, knowing my weakness and inability, God has provided me just what I need; He suits my needs.

His Word suits my need. It tells me of God and who He is, what He does in this world and what He will do in the world to come. His Word tells of His absolute sovereignty, of how He can be a just God and Savior. That salvation is by His will, not man’s. That salvation is what God does for man, not what man does for God.

His will suits me from the top of my head down to my feet. I know His will is the best thing for me. Thank God He has not left me to my will, but in His infinite wisdom orders all things for my good and His glory. His Will is perfect, which suits my imperfection.

The Lord Jesus Christ suits my needs as a sinner: His blood cleanses me from all sin, His obedience is given in place of my rebellion, and His righteousness is given to me in place of my righteousness, which is a filthy rag.

His word tells me Christ Jesus came to save sinners. I am one of them. That He came to seek and save the lost, I was one of them. In fact I was so lost that only He could find me, and bless His holy name, He found me and saved me from my sin which was so great.

His word tells me that not only has He saved me from my sin and my rebellion, but that He will carry on His work. Not one for whom He died will ever be cast out, which gives assurance that I will not ever be forsaken of Him.

Yes, everything from His Word, His will, and His Son and the salvation that He has given me suits me perfectly.

Perfection in Christ!

“Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.” | Colossians 1: 28-29

Perfect, complete, without blemish, holy, blameless, spotless; these are just a few of the words the Scriptures use to describe Gods saints.

We do not feel that we are any of these things in ourselves, but this is what God says about us.

Do we believe what we see in ourselves or what God says about us?

God describes us with these glorious words because of what our Lord Jesus Christ accomplished for us by His holy sinless life and His sacrificial death for us on the cross.

God’s word describes us as what we are in Christ.

Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.

Redeemed In Christ

“He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.” | Matthew 7: 6-8

Here is a word from God that should brighten the day for you: “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree” (Galatians 3: 13)

When the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, hung upon the cross, he was made to be a curse, an object of Divine wrath and Judgment, so that we who believe might never endure the curse of God’s wrath.

He did not simply make it possible for us to be redeemed.

He did not simply make us redeemable.

The text says, “Christ Hath redeemed us from the curse of the law!”

This redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ is the central theme of Holy Scripture, the foundation of our faith, and the only hope we have of eternal salvation.

OPTIONS

“Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.” | Isaiah 42: 1-4

Have you ever made a phone call and a voice comes on and says push 1 or 2 or 4, then when you push that number it starts all over again? How frustrating. In every part of life there are too many things to choose from, in going to a restaurant, in choosing a car, what kind of computer should I get, on and on it goes.

But there is one thing in which there are no options: SALVATION from sin and condemnation. (Romans 8: 1) God in His Holy Word has made it plain and straightforward; “This is my beloved Son, hear Him.”

God says there is ONE WAY to come unto Him, (John 14: 6) One who has the power to give eternal life, One who has the power to make God the Father known, One in whom a sinner can be accepted. The Holy Scriptures tell us there is One Righteousness; One Savior of sinners, One Mediator between God and men, “The man Christ Jesus.” One who has the power to give life and quicken whom He will. God says there is One whom He appointed heir, One by whom He will be addressed, One by whom He will address sinners, One JUST ONE.

God will give no man any wiggle room here, freewill won’t do, works won’t do, merit has no place, and law keeping won’t be accepted. The Lord God said it this way, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life: but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3: 36)

I am so thankful that God the Father brought me to the place where there was no way out from under the guilt and condemnation of my sin and revealed the ONE WAY in which He would accept and make me righteous. That Way is through and by the Lord Jesus Christ.

SIN AND FORGIVENESS

“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.” | 1 Corinthians 12:12

We love to hear the gospel that tells us of sin forgiven, of being washed from our sin in His precious blood.

Sin is too familiar with us. We have committed it, we are affected by it daily, and it is our daily trial.

Sin of our past, sin is our burden today, sin as it is, is our own affliction until we enter into our eternal rest.

It is a battle we have entered into that is a war without and within… but, thank God for Ephesians 1: 7 says; “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sin;” how? “according to the riches of his grace!”

Forgiveness of sin, what a joy, what greater news can a sinner hear?

God’s free grace gave us His son to redeem us by His own blood.

God’s free grace came and effectually applied that blood to our souls!

It was free grace that forgave us all our sin, “where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” (Romans 5: 20)

DIVINE PARADOXES

“And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,” | Ephesians 6: 19

The wiser we get, the greater fools we become (I Corinthians 3: 18)

The stronger we grow, the weaker we are (II Corinthians 12: 9-10)

The more we possess, the less we have (II Corinthians 6: 10)

The more completely bankrupt, the more freely forgiven (Luke 7: 42)

The more utterly lost, the more perfectly saved (Luke 19: 10)

And the more like a child, the greater in the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18: 4)

Who Cares About Gods Love?

“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. | Hebrews 2: 9

Men have been told over and over again that God loves them, I would ask you what good does the love of God do you?

Does it make you desire to live to His glory, or cause you to call on Him daily, or attend a place where the gospel is preached?

Do you ever even think about the love of God? Does God enter your thoughts at all?

When God loves a sinner He does something effectual for that sinner; “In the time of love I passed by thee and said unto thee live I said live.” (Ezekiel 16: 5-8) He loved Jacob before he was born; he had not done any good or evil that the purpose of God according to election might stand.

The same thing will happen to Gods elect that happened to Paul, hear his words; “When it pleased God who separated me from my mothers womb, and called me by His grace to reveal His Son in me.” (Galatians 1: 15) “In love having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.” (Ephesians 1: 4-5)

The average person absolutely doesn’t care at all about the love of God, and to be told over and over again that God loves them is obscene.

God loves his elect and he will manifest his love to them in time.

If you would take a close look into Gods word you would see that no one told men indiscriminately that God loves them. Those to whom the love of God was manifested were overwhelmed by the truth that God loved them, and had always loved them, with an everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31: 30)

Men today are not enthralled with the love of God, it is just ho-hum, so what else is new.
