Loving One Another

“Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.” | 1 John 4: 11

How did God love us?

He loved us while we were yet sinners.

He reconciled us while we were yet sinners.

He loved us unconditionally.

“Herein is love, NOT that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

God’s love for us was eternal, unchangeable, and effectual.

What is it then that keeps me from loving others?

Can it be that such an object of undeserving grace and mercy now requires a worthiness in others?

Can it be that such a one who was saved by sovereign mercy, alone, now refuses to show mercy?

God forbid!

Let us first contemplate his love for us and we will have no problem loving others.

You Can Do Nothing

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” | John 15: 5

You Can do Nothing — Bad News or Good News?

For God’s elect to profess that in and of themselves they can do nothing to please God is not a mere excuse for them to do nothing for the cause of Christ in this world. Their inability is a “daily burden.”

The apostle Paul wrote, “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.” (Romans 7: 18) Certainly that is why the Gospel message is “good news” for the “true sinner.”

That perfection which God requires of me, He provides for me in my glorious Substitute and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

I can now say with Paul, “For WHEN I am weak, THEN I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12: 10) With Christ as my Substitute, Mediator, and Advocate before God I see that “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4: 13)

That surely makes the Divine revelation of my “inability” to sound like “good news” to me! How about you?

Be Not Afraid, Only Believe

“While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.” | Luke 8: 49-50

These are the words our Lord spoke to Jairus, when his friends came telling him of his daughters death and of the lack of necessity for him to trouble the master any further.

Natural men always set limits on the ability and willingness of Christ to save sinners.

While she hung on by a thread, they had hope. But as soon as the thread was gone, so was their hope.

Because of their unbelief and doubt, they were neither permitted to follow or enter in to see His glory.

God give us the quiet submissive faith of Jairus, who patiently waited on the Lord and was permitted, by the Master to see the glory of life in His touch.

The Revelation Of God

“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” | Genesis 2: 16-17

God’s first revelation to man was as his sovereign, telling him what he could and could not do.

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3: 15)

God’s second revelation to man was, as his Savior and Reconciler doing for him what he could not and would not do for himself and showing this to him in the light of a promised Redeemer.

Crucified With Christ

“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.” | 1 Timothy 1: 1-2

“What is hope? Hope is expectation with a reasonable basis.

What the world calls hope is an empty wish.

It’s like a child holding a present on their birthday hoping to find what they want.

But, hope in the scriptures is defined as a person: Christ in you the hope of glory.

This hope comes through a Godly persuasion, “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (2 Timothy 1: 12)

Also, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8: 38-39)

The believer’s hope is not I hope, I hope, I hope.

The believer’s hope is hope founded upon the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our expectations fully depend on His appointments, His coming as the God man, His obedience, His suffering, His death, His resurrection, and His present reign in glory.

“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5: 12)

Paul said he was “an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope

May the Lord be pleased to make Him our hope for the glory of His own name.

Christ Our Hope

To Die Is Gain

”For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” | Philippians 1: 21

Believers are not at risk of losing anything in death.

What they lose is this cursed flesh that has been nothing to them but a plague from the day they were born.

What they lose is an old nature that has warred against their spiritual minds from the day they were born of God.

What they lose is all the soap bubble dreams of a cursed world that promises everything and gives nothing but heartache and disappointment.

In death they lose corruption and put on incorruption.

In death they lose mortality and gain immortality.

For the believer death is gain because death is swallowed up in victory.

Death to the believer is gain because he will leave this sinful world and immediately be ushered into the presence of his beloved Savior.

The “Him” Book

THE “HIM” BOOK

”Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge” | Luke 11: 52

The Bible is not a ‘how to’ book, a road map, a calendar of events, a history book, or a code of conduct.

The Bible is a Him book.

From beginning to end it is the declaration of the redemptive glory of God in Christ.

Take the preeminence of Christ out of the Bible and all you have is another book.

Use the Bible for any other reason than to declare Christ crucified and you misuse the Word of God.

It’s All According

“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” | Ephesians 1: 6-7

Oh, The Wonder Of It!

When I think of the wonder, majesty, and glory of God, I can hardly believe that such a worm as I am should be called to be an heir of His grace.

Yet, it is just this vast difference that manifests the glory of His grace.

He who is the highest, the holiest, and the greatest has set His affection on the lowest, the most sinful, and weakest.

It is “to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved, In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.”
