Preaching and Compelling

”The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.” | Psalm 118: 14-17

Don’t blame God.

Whenever worship attendance is sparse, almost always, someone makes the comment, “Everybody is here that is supposed to be.”

I know that is true.

“In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:” (Ephesians 1: 11)

God always works everything after the counsel of His own will, and He makes no mistakes.

However, we must be careful as to what we blame on God.

Our Lord has prepared a great supper and has bidden sinners to come.

If you don’t come, that is on you, not God.

“And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” (John 5: 40)

By nature, we will not come to Christ that we might have life.

“Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.” (Psalms 110: 3)

May God be pleased to make us willing in the day of His power.

May God Be Mindful of Us

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” | 1 Corinthians 1: 30,31

May God give us the wisdom to know that Christ IS all!

May God cover us in the righteousness (the goodness and obedience) of Christ, OUR all!

May God see us in the sanctification (the holiness and purity) of Christ, GOD’S all!

And may the only payment offered to God for the redemption of our sin be Christ – AS all!

Sacrifice

”And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” | Romans 8: 28-31

Sacrifice means to ‘suffer loss’ …’give up something.’

The Lord Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself to God for His people.

He ‘suffered many things’ because of us.

He suffered the wrath and judgment of God against our sins.

He gave His life for His sheep.

He ‘gave up’ His glory, honour and happiness in Heaven to become a man of sorrows and be a servant to God and men.

He gave every waking hour of His thirty-three years on earth for us; and He did it willingly and happily, knowing it was for God’s glory and our good.

Now… scripture says to those whom Christ did this for: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12: 1)

Let each of us ask ourselves:

In light of what Christ has done for me, what have I done for Him?

In light of what Christ has done for me, what have I done for His People?

In light of what Christ has done for me, what have I suffered the loss of?

In light of what Christ has done for me, what have I given up?

In light of what Christ has done for me, how much of myself, my time, my material goods (which He gave us) have I given to the cause of Christ, support of the gospel and the care of His church?

In light of what Christ has done for me, have I made any sacrifice at all?

In light of what Christ has done for me, have I suffered the loss of anything or given up anything or anyone for Christ, Who gave Himself for me?

A Memory That Forgets

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” | Ephesians 4: 32

One of the best things we can learn to cultivate is a memory that forgets.

A memory that forgets all wrongs, all ill words, all ingratitude.

If our Lord never remembers our sins against Him, let’s not remember any against us.

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” (Hebrews 8: 12)

Let’s remember to forget as well as forgive.

How Can God Love A Sinner?

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” | Romans 8: 38-39

Religion is to know biblical facts; Life is to know God.

“For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.” (John 5: 20)

Religion is to know what I believe; Life is to know whom I believe.

“For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (2 Timothy 1: 12)

Religion is to be baptized into the church; Life is to be baptized into Christ.

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?” (Romans 6: 3)

Religion is to be reformed; Life is to be regenerated.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3: 3)

Religion is to be a new convert; Life is to be a new creature in Christ.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5: 17)

A man was asked “And what is your religious persuasion?” He replied, “I am persuaded that nothing can separate me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Fundamentals Of Grace

”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.” | John 1: 1-2

Four things comfort the child of God in trials and afflictions:

  1. ”That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.” (1 Thessalonians 3: 3)

We can trust the God who appoints them.

  1. ”For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.” (Psalm 103: 14)

We can trust that He knows our frame.

  1. ”And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8: 28)

We can trust that good will always be waiting at the end of the trial.

  1. ”To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.” (1 Thessalonians 3: 13)

We can trust that one day soon He will “…stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.”

Let Your Love Be Sincere

”Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;” | Romans 12: 9-10

Believers will love all people.

There is no room in a regenerate heart for hate, grudges, and bigotry.

There is a special love for those who are called brethren. ”As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6: 10)

In making others happy, we find happiness; in giving, we receive; in promoting another’s welfare and honor we are honored!

A man’s character is not always revealed in what others say about Him, but in what he privately says about others.

Hear Him

”And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.” | Luke 9: 35

On this occasion the Lord Jesus was glorified before the apostles.

“While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” (Matthew 17: 5)

There also appeared with Him Moses and Elijah when He was transfigured. Both Moses and Elijah were occupied and discussing the Lord’s death, “his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.”

When Peter saw this glorious sight he thought that it might be good to build three tabernacles honoring them, Moses the great lawgiver and Elijah the mighty prophet of God.

About this time God was pleased to overshadow them with a cloud and to speak out of heaven unto the disciple. The instructions of God were plain and simple,

“Hear Him.”

Peter, don’t build, don’t sacrifice, don’t worship Moses and Elijah; “Hear Him.”

The command of the gospel has not changed.

“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” (Luke 24: 27)

The command of God is as appropriate today as it was then, “Hear Him.” God has given the whole testimony of scripture as an accurate record to bear witness to the glorious person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”

“For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” (1 Thessalonians 2: 13)

May God give us much wisdom and grace to hear the word of the Lord and receive and believe it in our hearts.

Lift Up My Eyes Unto The Hills

”Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word; It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.” | Psalms 119: 67; 71

There are times when the believer needs the sunshine and there are times when we benefit from the storm.

The psalmist declared, “before I was afflicted I went astray… It is good for me that I have been afflicted.”

Except Your Righteousness Be Perfect

“For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven” | Matthew 5: 20

Beloved, it is by the doing and dying of Christ that we are saved. “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” (Genesis 3: 21)

Indeed, through the death of His sin atoning blood and the life of His perfect righteousness as our substitute, we are and SHALL BE SAVED. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1: 21)

It is not enough that you have your sins forgiven, in fact you must be made the perfect righteousness of God! Through Christ, through His perfect life as a man, our Heavenly Father made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5: 21)

All the Scribes, all the Popes, all the Buddhas, Mohamed and all who follow them—all need a righteousness that exceeds their own to go to heaven; they need the perfect righteousness of Christ. “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.” (Isaiah 40: 1-2)

Reader, God give you grace to hear and believe His Son, for without His righteousness, no one comes to the Father, as our Lord plainly tells us “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14: 6)

Beloved, it is by the doing and dying of the Lord Jesus Christ that we are saved – for if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5: 10)

To you who believe; rest with us, for we have received double of the Lord’s hand! “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 54: 17)

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” (1 Corinthians 1: 30)

Not only do we have a full and complete pardon of all our sins; much more beloved, He has removed our iniquity from us and clothed us with His perfect life; indeed His perfect righteousness.

AMEN!
