No More Curse

“Why dost thou strive against Him? For He giveth not account of any of His matters” | Job 33: 13

Years ago when asked by my children for a reason about a decision I had made concerning them my answer was often, “because I said so!”

I had my reasons and that was enough.

Truthfully I had their best at heart and my decision was for their good and therefore I owed them no further explanation.

When it comes to the Lord’s dealings with us, Scripture reveals that: “He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand, or say into Him, what doest Thou?” (Daniel 4: 35)

He owes no explanation to His creatures.

He is the Potter and we are the clay.

If we’re called upon to suffer at the merciful hand of chastisement, He has promised that He’ll never leave nor forsake us.

Rest assured, the path that He has chosen for His elect is according to absolute wisdom and as He told the apostle Paul, when Paul besought the Lord thrice to remove a thorn in the flesh, “My grace is sufficient for thee.”

“They Were Pricked In Their Heart…”

”Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” | Ephesians 3: 20-21

The best preaching is that which pricks our heart.

This is the only kind of impression that is a saving impression.

It is not if I please your ears, your eyes, your sense of smell, but if your heart is pricked.

Many attempts are made to make people religious from the outside.

It is done with clothes, and how you wear your hair.

This is Wal-Mart salvation, for all I need for this kind of salvation I can buy at Wal-Mart.

Some say salvation comes by eating or not eating, by drinking or not drinking.

Again that is Wal-Mart salvation.

Our Lord said, it is “Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man, but that which cometh out of the mouth, that defileth a man.”

It is the heart which must be changed.

If your conversion is produced in the flesh, it will only be concerned with fleshly things.

Never be satisfied with a religion which does not affect your heart.

Never be satisfied with worship that is not from the heart.

If you are to be blessed by the hearing of this Gospel, then you must be pricked in your heart.

He First Loved Us

“We love Him, because He first loved us.” | 1 John 4: 19

Because He first loved us, there are some things that we, God’s people, love about Him:

We love His sovereignty. We love the fact that He has the power, ability, and right to do as He pleases. We especially love that truth because He said, in Christ, it pleased Him to make us His people.

“For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.” (1 Samuel 12: 22)

We love His election. We love who He elected to save. He said He chose to save sinners, and that is what we are.

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1: 15)

We love His predestination. It is the means that He said He would use to conform us to the image of Christ, and that is our greatest desire and need.

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8: 29)

We love His grace, because it is what gave Christ to us.

We love His mercy, because it is what gave Christ to the cross of our punishment. It is what shed His blood for the payment of our sin.

We love His redemption, because it is finished. We are washed clean, made pure, and accepted in Him.

We love His righteousness, because it has covered everything that we are in our flesh with His perfection.

We love His glory, because it magnifies Him.

We love His word, because it reveals Him.

We love His message, because it points us and calls us to Him.

We love His people, because there is no greater pleasure on earth than being with those who love Him and desire to worship and praise Him together.

The glorious gospel of Christ is in the fact that He loved us, even when there was nothing about us to love.

For that, we love Him.

One Of You Shall Betray Me – Master Is It I?

”Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.” | John 11: 3

When the Lord told His disciples, “One of you shall betray me,” they all replied, “Lord, is it I?”

We should have such distrust of ourselves that we would have the same reply.

But one of His disciples answered differently, “Master (Rabbi) is it I?”

This is the same disciple who betrayed Christ with a kiss saying, “Hail, Master.”

Not one time do we read where Judas Iscariot ever called Christ “Lord.”

Master is a term of respect for a teacher.

But the fact that Judas never called Him Lord reveals what he was in His wicked heart.

To the believer, Christ is Lord.

We recognize His Lordship over all things, and we recognize and love His Lordship over us.

Rolfe Barnard used to say, “Don’t tell me who your savior is, tell me who your Lord is. Then I will know who your savior is.”

A Confident God And A Comforted People

”But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.” | Isaiah 43: 1

Salvation is of God’s grace, not of your merit; it is of God’s goodness, not of your holiness; you have nothing to do but to rest on what Christ has done.

Grace Alone

“To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” | Acts 10: 43

I can understand how men and women, who have never read or heard the Word of God preached, can look to and depend on their works and self-righteousness to make them acceptable before God; for such things seem logical to the natural mind which knows nothing of God, sin, righteousness, and divine holiness.

But I cannot understand how any person who has read the Scriptures can fail to see that salvation is by grace alone through the merits and death of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Justification by Faith

”Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?” | Romans 7: 1

It has been said that a church either stands or falls by the blessed truth of justification by faith and their view of it, and their stand on it.

Faith is the opposite of works, faith is not doing but believing, faith has to do with resting in Christ and His obedience and His righteousness.

Faith is the means of our justification: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” (Romans 5: 1)

Faith receives the truth of the gospel the merits of Christ. Faith receives the doing and dieing of the Lord Jesus Christ: “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.” (Romans 3: 28)

Faith is not its own object; those who have been given faith do not look to their faith but to Christ who is the object of their faith.

We know there is no merit in our faith but in our Savior.

Christ is faiths object and it is based on knowledge: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10: 13-14)

Faith is based on God’s word, it is believing with the heart.

Faith is based on trust, on commitment.

We don’t trust our faith we trust the Lord Jesus.

We don’t trust our feelings, we trust our Master who lived for us as our representative before God, and who died as our substitute bearing our sin away to a place where God doesn’t see it.

We don’t trust our knowledge or our intellect, we trust Him who has infinite knowledge of us.

Oh, what comfort in knowing He knows us, that all is open and naked with him and that even though He knows us as we are our Justification is sure and secure, because it is what He did for us.

We change, but not Him, our faith sometimes is so weak and feeble but He is our strength.

Listen! “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by THE FAITH JESUS CHRIST, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the Faith Of Christ” (Galatains 2: 16)

True Unity

”Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” | Ephesians 4: 3

Child of God, endeavor to keep the unit of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133: 1)

Whatever differences we may have in the flesh, (Race, Culture, Language, Politics, Personalities) they are not only insignificant but irrelevant to our unity in Christ Jesus.

Our Lord prayed, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” (John 17: 21)

What a powerful testimony it is to the unbeliever to see that we all believe the same thing concerning the Lord Jesus and His successful work of redeeming His people, and that our conviction concerning the gospel causes us to overlook all other differences.

Rest From Thy Sorrow

“And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,” | Isaiah 14: 3

May we have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones, knowing that “…the Lord shall give thee rest from thy sorrow;”

Christ The Lamb

“And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” | Genesis 22: 7

When the Gospel is preached, there is one thing that one will always hear… Christ the Lamb.

This is the acid test of a true God centered message.

Without a doubt, there are many things that may be preached which in themselves are good. I don’t know many folks that are not against drugs, immorality, abortions, or any other such thing, but these things are not the issue.

The issue is the glory of Christ — His work, His holiness, and His satisfaction of the law!

When any man stands up to preach, let this test be set upon the words that you hear: “Where’s the Lamb?”

If I don’t hear Him, I haven’t heard the only message that the Holy Ghost will bless to the salvation of a sinner.
