Being Justified Freely

“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” | Romans 3: 24

What does it mean to be justified? I am sure that there have been many definitions given and I by no means can fully expound all that is involved in sinners being justified before God. However, I am sure that it means to be eternally pardoned from all sin by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1: 18) It means to be acquitted and vindicated of all charges before the holy justice of God. (Jude 24) It means to be made and regarded righteous in God’s sight. (Colossians 1: 21-22)

How are sinners justified? By God as the source, “It is God that justifieth” (Romans 8: 33). By grace as the spring and fountain, “Justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3: 24). By Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and blood atonement as the ground, “Being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him” (Romans 5: 9). By His resurrection as the proof and evidence, “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification” (Romans 4: 25). By faith as the means to receive this salvation in Christ, “Being justified by faith, we have peace with God” (Romans 5: 1).

Christ is All And in All!

“Unto you that believe, He is precious.” Believers receive Christ, rejoice in Christ, and to them He is precious. His obedience is our righteousness, His blood is our atonement. His prayers are our intercession. His reign is our glory. His coming is our hope! Christ is all and in all!

The Lord Saves Sinners

Our Lord is both WILLING to save sinners and ABLE to save them.

If He is willing but not able, we have no hope; if He is able but not willing, the result is the same.

But if He is both willing and able to save by His perfect sin-offering, there is no reason for me to despair.

The Lord Jesus Christ Set His Love on Sinners

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1:15)

Do you know who will love to hear that Christ came to save sinners? Sinners will!

Do you know who will love to hear that Christ came not to call the righteous, but sinners? Sinners will!

Do you know who will love to hear that Christ died on purpose, for a particular people, whom the word of God calls ungodly sinners? Ungodly (in the flesh) sinners will love to hear that!

The blood of Christ was not shed for the self righteous world, but it was shed for sinners. Christ did not set His love on the self righteous world, but He set His love on sinners. Christ will not receive the self righteous world, but He said He would receive sinners! So, let me ask you this question: Are you a sinner? If you are, like I am, this is the greatest news we will ever hear in our lives… “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”

The Necessity and Importance of the Gospel

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3: 13,14)

Brethren, as we leave one year behind us and enter in to another year ahead of us, let us (now more than we ever have before) press the necessity and importance of the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let’s press the necessity and importance of hearing, believing, and gathering together in worship. Let’s press it to ourselves, our children, our parents, our siblings, our friends and our acquaintances. It is truly the one thing that is needful.

With another year gone, it only means that time is running out. Let’s redeem it! While there is still breath in us, our responsibility in this life on earth is to glorify and praise our Redeemer and King; and to tell all who will listen how great things He has done for us! Our God said that it has pleased Him to use the means of preaching His accomplishment on the cross to call His chosen people from darkness to light. So, while it is still today, let’s witness His glorious victory with all of our ability.

  • When we feel tired, let’s encourage each other.
  • When we feel weak, let’s strengthen each other.
  • When we feel lost, let’s point each other back to Christ.

Let’s not put any stock in last year’s faith or faithfulness. Today is the day of salvation for ALL of us. May God, for Christ’s sake, give us more fervency than we had last year. May God give us more heart for Christ and the things concerning Him than we had last year. May God give us a deeper need; a more urgent cry; and may He cause us to see His Word to not only be true, but LIFE!

Lord, show us the Mark! Reveal the Prize! Cause us to reach forth! Press us and we’ll be pressed!

By Grace Alone

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.” ~ Ephesians 2: 8-9

“By grace are ye saved.”

There is no present salvation except that which begins and ends with grace!

No man can preach or possess a present salvation except those who preach and believe that we are saved by grace alone!

The work is finished! Any other way of salvation is dependent on the sinner and it will fail.

The Message That Is Not In Vain

John Newton spoke on behalf of every sinner who has been washed in the Blood of Christ when he wrote:

“Amazing grace,

how sweet the sound,

that saved a wretch like me!”

When God reveals to us what absolute “wretches” we are…

That is the moment GRACE becomes AMAZING!

A Wonderful Master

Christians serve a wonderful Master. They serve Him who is… all ear to hear them, all hand to uphold them, all power to protect them, all wisdom to direct them, all goodness to relieve them, all mercy to pardon them.

The Purpose Of God

We believe, according to the scriptures, that the Lord our God is a God of purpose, absolute and unalterable purpose.

Before the world began, Almighty God sovereignly purposed all that ever comes to pass in time. Nothing in this world is left to chance. Everything is moving toward the predetermined end of God’s eternal purpose with absolute, precise accuracy. Even a casual reader of Holy Scripture has to face this fact: The God of the Bible is a God of purpose.

Read

  • Romans 8: 28-30
  • Romans 9: 11-26
  • Romans 11: 33-36
  • Ephesians 1: 3-14
  • Ephesians 3: 11
  • 2 Timothy 1: 9

These passages plainly state that the Triune Jehovah is a God of purpose, and clearly teach several things about the purpose of God:

  • The purpose of God is eternal.
  • The purpose of God includes all things.
  • The purpose of God has for its peculiar design the everlasting benefit of God’s elect. Everything that God has purposed is for the ultimate, spiritual, and eternal benefit of his covenant people.
  • The purpose of God is immutable and sure. The Lord himself says, “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.” (Isaiah 46: 10)

And in its ultimate end, God’s purpose will accomplish the eternal salvation of his chosen people and the glory of his own great name.
