He Never Changes

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and forever.” | Hebrews 13: 8

I am so thankful that as I grow older and things change, inside and out, that there is One who never changes.

  1. His love never changes with time, for He loved me with an everlasting love that knows no change.
  2. His power never changes. He is just as able to keep me from falling today as when I first began.
  3. His Word never changes: “God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?” (Numbers 23: 19). Has He not magnified His Word above His Name?
  4. His election of me shall never change. He will never cast off those whom He has chosen, for they will never do anything that He did not know about and has not already taken care of.
  5. The power of His blood shall never change. It still cleanses from all sin. No matter how deep the stain has gone, His blood washes it away.
  6. His Sacrifice will never change, it will never lose its effectiveness because it is always fresh in the midst of the Throne of God: “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain…” (Revelation 5: 6). We have a living sacrifice standing in the midst of the Throne of God. When we rise out of our beds in the morning and go through our changes, just remember that there is One who remains the same yesterday, today and forever: The Rock Christ Jesus.

In Everything Give Thanks

Every time you insist that I am a sinner, you call me to remember the benefit of Christ my Redeemer, upon whose shoulders, and not mine, lie all my sins. So when you say I am a sinner, you do not terrify me, but comfort me immeasurably.

Thou My Portion, The Lord Wilt Be

Complete in Thee! no work of mine
May take, dear Lord, the place of Thine;
Thy blood hath pardon bought for me,
And I am now complete in Thee.

Yea, justified! O blessed thought!
And sanctified! Salvation wrought!
Thy blood hath pardon bought for me,
And glorified, I too, shall be!

Complete in Thee! no more shall sin,
Thy grace hath conquered, reign within;
Thy voice shall bid the tempter flee,
And I shall stand complete in Thee.

Complete in Thee–each want supplied,
And no good thing to me denied;
Since Thou my portion, Lord, wilt be,
I ask no more, complete in Thee.

We Shall See Him as He Is

No trial or suffering is easy. If trials were without pain and discomfort, they would not accomplish the purpose for which they are sent. (James 1: 2-4)

But, when we look at all of earth’s sorrows, sufferings, and trials in the light of His eternal glory; when we shall be like Him, enjoy His presence, and partake in His perfect kingdom, then we will look on these present inconveniences as nothing. They are not worthy to be compared to that glory. (I John 3: 1-3)

Walk In Him

“As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him: rooted and built up in Him, and stablished in the faith…” | Colossians 2: 6-7

Have we received Christ Jesus, the Lord?

Then let us continue in Him just as we began in Him – relying entirely upon His grace for our acceptance with God and access to His mercy. Just as, at the first, we looked for all things in Him, so let us still seek no other treasury of Divine blessing other than the Son of God. Let us look for no “higher life” than to be found in Him, not having our own righteousness but His righteousness received by faith alone. Let us look for no second work of grace as a supplement to the grace we have already been given in Christ. As He first captivated our hearts, let us continue to be captivated by Him consumed with a desire to know Him and finding no greater joy than to learn of Him. This is the good life.

All else is a lingering death!
All else is a casting aside of wonderful things for worthless things.
All else is to live like a slave rather than as a son!

Seek Christ First

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” | Matthew 6: 33

May I say something again that I have said many times? I will try to say it a bit differently and illustrate what I mean.

Do not seek assurance – seek Christ!

Do not seek peace first – seek Christ first and peace and assurance will follow. You may have an assurance and not have Christ, just as you may enjoy the peace of a false profession, which is no peace. But you cannot truly know and have Christ without some assurance and peace.

You must have the ROOT of grace before you enjoy the FLOWER of peace. Suppose a child sees flowers blooming in the yard, goes and picks several of the prettiest blooms, and makes her own little garden of flowers. She stands back, admiring the blossoms, and says, “Now, what a fine flower garden I have!” But, to her dismay, the next day all of the blooms are withered and dead. They looked good for a while; but, having no root, no source of life, they died.

Such is peace without Christ; it does not last very long.

It would be better to plow the ground, plant the seeds of grace, and wait until they sprout; then you will have the living flowers, not borrowed flowers. If you try to have peace before grace, you have a flower without root.

If you seek assurance before you seek Christ, you may attain unto some measure of confidence; but it will not last because HE is our peace, our assurance, and our hope.

The True Grace of God

When things spin out of our control, when well-laid plans, indeed, go awry, when carefully crafted back-up plans blow up in our faces, and all that we had expected to happen vaporizes into what actually happens, we are reminded that it is God’s will and not ours that shall be done, and we are humbled into our proper place and God is exalted to His proper place.

“Our God is in the heavens, He has done whatsoever pleased Him.”

And that is good.

We Are Saved By Grace

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” | Ephesians 2: 4-8
