The Happy Truth of Humility

In Christ there is no great and small, no important and unimportant, but only sinners saved by the grace of God.

We are all brethren! The servant is not greater than his Lord; and if the Lord humbled himself to become a servant, shall we not do likewise?

Happy are those who know this gracious truth by experience and perform the doing of it.

Brethren Listen!

“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned”“He that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the WRATH OF GOD abideth on him.” | Mark 16: 15-16; John 3: 36

You have wives, husbands, parents, sons and daughters, grandchildren… that do not know the Lord; that do not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. They are going to perish if they do not hear and believe the Truth.

Do you talk to them? Are you able to bring them to hear the Word? Are they under your roof and under your influence? If you care for their souls you must tell them, you must talk to them, you must bring them.

You are their minister and they are your ministry. It is your purpose in life to bear witness to your Lord. Nothing else matters. Nothing! Do not let the god of this world blind your minds with the things of this world so that you do not see it for what it is.. TEMPORARY… PERISHING!

Scripture says, “Seeing that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness.” (2 Peter 3: 11) What do you talk to these lost ones about? How we ought to have our affection set on things above, how we ought to talk of those things, rather than things on earth.

O’ what manner of persons we ought to be in all seriousness and earnestness, rather than vain, light, frivolous, and worldly minded persons.

Brethren, the time is short. Very soon it will be as though we had no wives, husbands, children or things, and the only thing that will matter is whether we have the Son. For “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life”“shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

Only One Way Of Salvation

When our God sent the flood, the whole world perished except those happy ones who were found in the ark. Even so, there is only ONE WAY of salvation for all persons living under heaven. There is only one name whereby they can be saved.

Would you be saved, rich man? There is no way except that way whereby the poorest pauper is also to be saved.

Would you be delivered, O man of intelligence? You must be saved in the same way as the most ignorant!

There were not two arks, only one. So there are not two saviors, only one Savior!

There was no other means of salvation except the ark; so “there is none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved”, except “Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”

Who art thou, Lord?

And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: [it is] hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought [him] into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I [am here], Lord. And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for [one] called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting [his] hand on him, that he might receive his sight. Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.

But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake. And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, [even] Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. And when he had received meat, he was strengthened.

Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard [him] were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.” | Acts 9: 1-22

The promise of the Lord to Joshua is the same promise He gives to every vessel of His mercy. And His word to them is the very foundation of their rest… ”As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”

Behold the Lamb of God!

“Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.” | John 1: 35-39

The salvation of the Church doth not spring from any holiness wrought in us, but from the work of CHRIST wrought for us. Not in our brokenness of heart, but in Christ’s bruised and broken body on the tree.

Words About Our Faith

Strange to say, the faith of Christians is a PERSON.

You may ask all other religions wherein their faith lieth, and they cannot answer on this wise.

Our faith is a PERSON; the gospel that we have to preach is a PERSON, and go wherever you may, we have something solid and tangible to preach. If you had asked the twelve apostles, in their day, “What do you believe in?” They would not have needed to go round about with a long reply, but they would have pointed to their Master and they would have said, “We believe in HIM.” “But what are your doctrines?” “There they stand INCARNATE.” “But what is your practice?” “HE is our example.”

“What, then, do you believe?” Hear ye the glorious answer of the apostle Paul, “We preach Christ crucified.”

Our creed, our body of divinity, our whole theology is summed up in the PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST.

The apostle preached doctrine, but the doctrine was Christ. He preached practice but the practice was all in Christ. There is no summary of the faith of a Christian that can compass all he believes, except that word – CHRIST; and that is the Alpha and Omega of our creed, that is the first and last rule of our practice – Christ, and Him crucified.

To spread the faith, then, is to spread the knowledge of Christ crucified; it is in fact, to bring men, through the agency of God’s Spirit, to feel their need of Christ, to seek Christ, to believe in Christ, to love Christ, and then to live for Christ.

Trust

“Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus”

TRUST is a wonderful thing, and SWEET is a good word to describe it.

Whether between husband and wife, parents and children, friends, or whomever…..trust is sweet!

The word implies faith, confidence, and reliance, but that is not all.

There is also a wonderful rest and repose in trust; a freedom from doubts, suspicions, anxieties, and fearful apprehensions.

Trust is calm, peaceful and assured. “Tis so sweet” when guilty sinners come to “trust in Jesus.”

Wonderful! Wonderful!

Under a dark, ominous cloud of impending judgment, the prophet Isaiah sees the “Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings.” And oh what a sight it was! Says he, “Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given… and His name shall be called wonderful.” (Isaiah 9: 6)

His name shall be called “Wonderful” because He IS “wonderful!” He is wonderful to the holy angels, and He is wonderful to the saints of God, those who know Him. “Wonderful” is a powerful adjective. A wonderful person is One who excites wonder; One who is extraordinary, One who is astonishing, One who is amazing, One who is separate and distinguished from others.

“Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” — the gloriously unique, incomparable God-man! He is indeed “wonderful!” “Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (I Timothy 3: 16) The saints of God stand in wonder, adoration, and awe before this One.

He is wonderful in all that He is, all that He says, all that He has done, and all that He is doing.

He is wonderful as the Representative, Substitute, and Surety of His people – a sovereign, sufficient, successful, satisfied Savior!

In all of His glorious work of saving His people, from the very beginning to the end – He is wonderful!
He came from the highest heaven to the lowest hell to bring those who deserved the lowest hell to the highest heaven – He is wonderful!

“He shall not fail nor be discouraged.” (Isaiah 42: 4; 53: 11) In His faithfulness to save, He is wonderful! “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou SHALT be saved” – He is wonderful!

The saints of God never cease to wonder at their Lord and Savior. They wonder at Him as they see Him in His Word, as they see Him in His Providence, and as they see Him in their salvation, now and throughout eternity.

“His name shall be called WONDERFUL” – and it WAS, and IS!

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” | John 14: 1

The Master had just finished telling His disciples that some very troubling things were soon coming to pass.

  • He told them that one of them would betray Him.
  • He told them that He was going away and they could not come with Him.
  • He told Peter that he would deny the Lord three times that very night.
  • I would imagine the disciples were shocked and dismayed.
  • They probably felt defeated just like we often do.

Then the Lord gave us these comforting words. “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”

O what comfort faith in Christ gives to the hearts of His elect.

When you are shocked at the pain and suffering you endure, let not your heart be troubled or uncertain, because you believe in Christ who has sacrificed Himself for your soul. Your body will suffer but your soul will never suffer if Christ died for you.

When you are disappointed in your failure, let not your heart be troubled, because you believe in Christ the Savior. Thankfully, your salvation and acceptance with God depends on who Christ is and what Christ has accomplished, not who you are or what you have done or what you have failed to do.

When you don’t understand what is happening, let not your heart be troubled or uncertain. Our God rules every event so that every event works together to bring to pass the salvation of His people. Our God is working even this together to accomplish His eternal will.

Those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ never have reason for real despair because everything that God is doing is best for me, best for His people and best for His Kingdom.

I Am Persuaded

The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1: 12, “I know WHOM I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.”

That is all that a believer needs to know. To know Christ, and to know that He has secured everything that needs to be secured concerning eternal salvation for His people, will bring absolute rest to his soul.
