True Profession

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” | 1 John 3: 18

The thing that troubles me most about the validity of our profession of Christ is that we talk, preach, and sing of love, mercy, and forgiveness. But then, when the opportunity comes for us to love the unlovely, forgive the offender, and bind up the wounded heart, we join the circle of Pharisees, clutching our stones, ready to wound and maim. A profession that does not produce is a false profession. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5: 22-23)

Perfect To Be Accepted

“He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” | Deuteronomy 32: 4

The voice from the cross did not summon men to do, but to be satisfied with what was done, “It is finished.”

The sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only perfect thing which has ever been presented to God on man’s behalf.

“It shall be perfect to be accepted, there shall be no blemish therein” (Leviticus 22: 21)

He is Altogether Lovely!

“But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:” | Acts 24: 14

Put the beauty of ten thousand worlds of paradises, like the Garden of Eden in one; put all trees, all flowers, all fragrances, all colors, all tastes, all joys, all loveliness, all sweetness in one. O what a lovely and excellent thing would that be! And yet it would be less compared to that beauteous and dearest well-beloved Christ than one drop of rain, compared to the whole seas, rivers, lakes, and foundations of ten thousand earths!

“Yes, He is altogether lovely! This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend!” (Song of Songs 5: 16)

WHEN I CONSIDER

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” | Psalms 8: 3-4

It is said that if our universe was a beach, earth would be nothing more than a grain of sand.

Astronomers tell us that there are over a hundred billion stars. Our sun (which is a star) is only a tiny dot among several hundred billion others forming our galaxy. Traveling at the speed of light, which is 186,282 miles per second, it would take approximately one hundred thousand (100,000) years to reach the Milky Way which is far closer to us than many other galaxies that can be seen with powerful telescopes.

We cannot perceive the infinite depth and vastness of God’s universe and yet David says that it is but the work of God’s fingers.

The next time you gaze into the sky on a clear night, I hope you will think about the vastness, the boundless and the limitless power of God, then ask yourself the question that David asked.

“What am I, that God would be mindful of me?”

“Who am I, that God would visit me in love, mercy and grace to save me?”

The answer is a simple yet amazing one.

I am a child of God!

LOVING ONE ANOTHER

“Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.” | 1 John 4: 11

How did God love us?

He loved us while we were yet sinners.

He reconciled us while we were yet sinners.

He loved us unconditionally.

“Herein is love, NOT that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

God’s love for us was eternal, unchangeable, and effectual. What is it then that keeps me from loving others? Can it be that such an object of undeserving grace and mercy now requires a worthiness in others? Can it be that such a one who was saved by sovereign mercy, alone, now refuses to show mercy? God forbid!

Let us first contemplate his love for us and we will have no problem loving others.

Six Things Believers Will Do

“O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.” | Psalm 79: 8-9

1). Believers so trust Christ as to renounce every other ground of confidence. (Philippians 3: 7-9)

2). Believers glory only in the righteousness of Christ and count their own to be filthy rags. (Isaiah 64: 6)

3). Believers rejoice in the cross of substitution, glorying in nothing else. (Galatians 6: 14)

4).Believers love the Lord Jesus supremely and will so order their lives as to avoid commitments and associations which hinder fellowship with Him. (Luke 14: 26-27)

5). Believers will continue in the faith, for true believers never quit. (1 John 2:19)

6). Believers obey the Lord’s commandments, not in order to gain His favor but because they love Him and dwell in His favor. (2 Corinthians 5: 14-15)

No Confidence In The Flesh

No true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ has any confidence in his flesh.

He knows that he is a fallen creature of the dust with no ability to reconcile himself back to God.

He trusts the Lord Jesus totally for salvation, the One who alone did bear the griefs and carry the sorrows of His people at Calvary. And while that regenerated sinner trusts Christ alone for salvation, he rejoices in the beautiful words, “And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely,” knowing that in the grand scope of God’s mercy, one even such as himself has hope.

TRUE WORSHIP

“Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” | Mark 9: 23

The apostle Paul said in Philippians 3: 3, “For we are the circumcision.”

That means: we are God’s chosen people; we are the true followers of Christ. “Which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.”

That is truly what we are here to do today. We are here to (in, soul, body and spirit) worship our God. And how do we do that? By rejoicing in Christ Jesus for everything that he has accomplished for us through the death of his cross. And by having absolutely no confidence in our flesh.

We are here to worship HIM and not ourselves. The work of salvation was Christ’s alone! We did not, and could not, lift one finger to help Him in any way, shape, or form. All glory and praise be unto Him, and no glory or praise be unto us. If that is the spirit of why we are gathered before our God, then we have gathered before Him for true worship.

YE ARE COMPLETE IN HIM

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” | 1 Corinthians 1: 30-31

“Ye are complete in Him…” (Colossians 2: 10)

The believer’s standing in Christ does not fluctuate with his feelings, not even the increase or decrease of his faith or understanding or anything else. He stands complete in Christ. God would never trust any of His children to stand before Him at any time in their own selves; that is, in their merits or certain good frames of mind. He knows our frame. He remembers that we are yet dust. Therefore, He has on purpose provided for them this perfect standing in Christ Jesus. “Ye are complete in Him,” the Holy Ghost said. He says in another place, “Ye are perfect in Christ Jesus.” (Colossians 1: 28)

The very nature of our God requires us to be perfect and complete before Him at all times. He, out of necessity, therefore provided all this for His children; a perfection, a completeness, which can never be diminished. It is as unchanging as God Himself. (Hebrews 6: 17; 13: 8)

Every true believer may walk through this world in perfect liberty, free from anything and everything – yes, even his sin, fear of condemnation, and all else that would cause him to doubt of his completeness. He may freely come to God, worship Him, call Him “Father,” and this he may do at all times with the utmost confidence and thankfulness, because in Christ he stands, first and foremost and always, complete before God.

O thanks be to God for Jesus Christ.

And The Word Was Made Flesh

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” | John 1: 14

My friends, if you will carefully consider it, this is the most extraordinary fact ever declared in human language.

God became a man and “took upon him the likeness of sinful flesh.”

The Ancient of Days became an infant of days.

The Son of the Most-High God became a man of sorrows.

He made the world; but as a man, “he had no place to lay his head.”

He who made the rivers asked a woman to give him a drink of water.

He who cast out devils was tempted of the devil, and the author of life died and lay in a tomb.

“The sun that hid from Him its face by His own hand was hung in space;
The sky which darkened o’er His head by Him above the world was spread;
The spear that shed His precious blood was tempered in the fires of God;
The grave in which His form was laid was hewn in rocks His hand had made.”
